I thought this thread was about hockey!! Same! I saw a meme the other day, something about buying a Stanley cup and a manicure instead of tires and I totally didn't get it. Now it makes sense. Also, a local church here that has a sign out front with funny or clever sayings posted this one this week: "Water does not taste better from a $60.00 cup."

I totally thought this thread was about hockey! Especially seeing that chiver78 was chiming in, lol. I guess I don’t follow the current trends that closely. All of our water bottles and travel mugs are different brands, mostly because everyone in the family has different needs as to size, function, capacity, etc.

Sadly, I saw a head line where kids in school who don't have a Stanley cup are being bulled.

Sadly, I saw a head line where kids in school who don't have a Stanley cup are being bulled. This is nothing new. If I had a dollar for every time I was bullied for not having the latest whatever I could afford all the previous whatevers. One big thing I remember is girls would use the bags from certain stores as purses to show where they bought their stuff. I wanted a VS bag so bad but my mom was not about to shop for underwear for me there at 12. Imagine my surprise as an adult when the clerk happily offered Abby her own little pink bag with tissue paper so she could be like mommy. You mean you're telling me I could have just asked for a damn bag all this time?! Not like anyone would be checking to see if I was actually wearing VS underwear. Now for my kids if it's within what I consider reason in regards to affordability and use then I'll go ahead and get it for them. It is not fun to always be the have not even if you get why your parents did it when you grow up. It's nice to be able to fit in once and awhile. So Gwen has a Stanely. Self piercing her own belly button with a kit she gets from Amazon? Hell NO!

I'm old enough to have lived through the Beanie Babies craze back in the late 70's. We had a neighbor who could barely afford toilet paper but invested heavily in Beanie Babies . Do you mean the 90's? If you're talking about the Ty Beanie Babies they were first shown in 93 and started production in 94. I only know this because I lived through the craze and googled to see when they came out as I didn't recall hearing about them being around before that. I remember McDonald's gave some away with Happy Meals and people went nuts trying to get them.
Anyways I lived through that, the sports card bubble where cards started getting graded pricing kids out and Pokemon. Like others in this thread when I saw the first few headlines I thought the craze related to some kind of Stanley Cup Hockey collectible cups. I'd say it's weird but then again people in my generation went crazy for cheap toys stuffed with plastic pellets.
