Would love other people's thoughts on this. My initial one after watching only about 3 minutes of the video and reading the entire article, is that the CEO is a bit clueless. I get that he prefers to cut sales people early. What I don't know or understand is can he and the company really document a pattern of inadequacy that quickly?

He wrote: “We fired ~40 sales people out of over 1,500 in our go-to market org. That's a normal quarter. When we're doing performance management right, we can often tell within 3 months or less of a sales hire, even during the holidays, whether they're going to be successful or not. Sadly, we don't hire perfectly. We try to fire perfectly.

Not knowing all the particulars it looks like a justifiable termination. She admits she didn't close on any accounts. She can work hard all she can but in the end if she is not doing the close then she is not generating any money.

I was on commission for 29 years as a Mortgage Loan Officer. You either produced or were shown the door. I witnessed many struggle and fail. If you survived the compensation percentage could be leveraged upwards. Most sales environments fall into the 80/20 rule.

I've not done sales because I don't think I have the personality for it unless I am selling something I love like cool cars. Mortgage reps can be a good gig in the flush house buying times but horrific during downturns. I don't know what really happened, but it felt like she was new to sales and wasn't told how it works. Because if I were a salesperson and told there was only a 3-month window for me to prove my worth, I would never choose to be hired in the 4th quarter because things happen, and clients will push closes into the new year sometimes because of what budget they have been handed or changing priorities as the company plans for the next year.
