And that is your right to find the article obnoxious. But do you also shoot the messenger for posting an article and who only said it was interesting? The point is you do it every year. You couldn't leave it alone when someone didn't like your article. Women don't need resolutions to rein in their tempers. We've been doing that for a century. In fact, I think I need a resolution to let my temper fly more often.

You're right Tenn - I'm not going to go through 12+ years of posts and maybe it's only the last 2 years that you are so exuberant to dismiss those that like resolutions. But the point still stands. It's why - when I hadn't seen Chloe's thread - I started a resolution thread I felt the need to start it with a disclaimer. It's one thing to chime in and say you don't do resolutions. Or if you had shared the article as something you were personally considering. But as far as I can tell you have *at least* 2 years of poo-poo'ing resolutions for no reason and ignored every post that posters have tried to explain their why to you. It reads as very condescending. So if you mean it differently- care to explain? So you are prone to gross exageration or out right lying about other posters. Got it. And bless your heart too. Seriously- all this over an article I said was interesting and never said was true. Only interesting. I do see most of you really needing some new year resolutions. But they are not what you think you need to implement. I'll bite. Why do you think it's interesting? I think it's tone deaf, condescending, and stupid.

I’ve binged so much Greys Anatomy over the past week that I’m ready to do my first solo lap chole and am mentally correcting the actors’ pronunciation Did you also decide who to sleep with next? Ooh. That’s tricky. I’ll have to add it to my list of New Year’s resolutions-prioritize my list of hot fake doctors to sleep with. And how TF do all these brilliant surgeons have So Many accidental pregnancies? Maybe it should go on the NYR list for a post-menopausal year

Really impressive reply. Says a lot. As did yours. Like how I owned up to my mistake and engaged in dialog instead of personal insults? I'm sitting at the dentist with my son and did start looking through old resolution threads. And I'll reiterate that past last year Tenn didn't harp on resolutions. When I'm home this weekend hopefully I'll make sure to go home and save my old posts. A lot of themes, some repeated failed themes that I'm still working on. But I found in 2018 I had a resolution for more physical activity and family time - and was taking the family to a taekwondo class that night. We changed dojos but talk about a successful resolution. So they're worth it to me.

If we are quite finished feeding the trolls and ready to get back to the main topic, my revised list: Continue progress on getting finances arranged the way I want them-good progress made in 2023 Offer support to my mother but not to the point it interferes with my own mental health Continue looking for appropriate med solutions to migraines etc Find a GP Do something about getting rotting woodwork on the house fixed Make lawyer finish estate documents and get them finalized, start next steps (designating trust as beneficiary etc). Keep juggling and don’t let any of the really important balls drop. Pick them up again if they do. Wait for Greys Anatomy to kill off all the really hot doctors. (I was taken aback a bit at how much older Patrick Dempsey looked in the beach scenes-lost weight, I guess? He looked more ill than sexy You could argue that these are more goals than resolutions, but they’re my damn resolutions and they look like whatever I say they look like. Back to work!

This is so condescending. what the hell is so threatening about having people reflect on themselves and how they'd like to tweak their life in the new year? I can't spend 10 minutes jotting down a few things I'd like to accomplish in 2024 without someone saying "wait! stop! take that 10 minutes and save the world!" Right back atchya! why didn't this author do that instead of writing this drivelly piece? Why didn't YOU Tennesseer save the world from bigotry instead of posting on this thread - yet again! - to drag down a few random people spending perhaps mere seconds to type out - oh gee, I'd like to take walk every day this year. Why didn't YOU do something more useful than once again clogging up our resolutions thread with your anti-resolution sentiments? Most of us here are women and mothers. Meaning we are putting other people first all the fucking damn time. Go do something about bigotry right now! Tell us how much you accomplished towards that lofty goal in the 5 minutes it would have took to type up some resolution. Unless you are suggesting that we also give up the time we are trying to devote to our health and wellbeing? If that is the case, I'll have more choice words for you. Toning down your temper is not one of your resolutions this year I see. My resolution is to be more angry. Because of fucking men.

Mine are more goals than resolutions - I'm not trying to save the world or even be a better person with my resolutions, they're just things that I would like to focus on. Things for ME.
1. Run a marathon (my ninth marathon) 2. Run more miles than I did in 2023 (I took a step back this year compared to 2021 and 2022) 3. More lap swimming 4. Read 36 books 5. Do photo albums for the years my kids have been alive (I'm behind by 10 years! haha) 6. Learn to play the piano (I can do the treble clef / right hand, but I've never learned bass clef / left hand or the pedals) 7. More experiences and travel

I've removed my prior posts here as this thread has taken a turn that's not part of my personal desires for a positive experience in 2024. I did gain much from some of the posts here and wish all a good year ahead.

today was tough!
Had a light work day, was going to walk during lunch then shop for salad fixing and other foodstuffs afterwork. Hardly go any sleep at all, and I had to exchange my lunchtime walk for a little nap (thankful for WFH today!). Woke up nearly as exhausted as I started, so just finished the work day and planned for doing nothing rest of the day. I just said that is how it has to be....
But I remember I just said a daily walk, my goal is 5 miles but I feel i hit the mark if I do 3, which is doable during a lunch hour. I push myself out there and did a mile. and did a little yoga when home - just a few stretches, and managed to cobbled together the daily salad from some stuff on it's last leg.
So, it will be another day of compliance. And, I did feel just a wee bit looser with the yoga.
There will be no salad tomorrow without shopping, lol - so I really hope tomorrow is a bit brighter.
Hope you all doing good in your resolution!

Hope you all doing good in your resolution! A simple 30 minute walk a day does a perfectly good job, too! Unless I'm on a specific hike or trail, I don't focus on mileage so much as time spent being active. And a walking video might seem silly, but again, if it's too cold or dark, just moving is key! I think so long as you walk over 150 minutes a week then you're getting a fitness benefit.

My resolution is to be more intentional. It's going really well so far. I have a habit of doing things without giving it much thought, and it's been nice to start recognizing my impulses and reevaluating what I'm trying to accomplish and the best way to go about it.
On the subject of volunteering, I overcommit and it serves no one. The school keeps putting out requests for PTA officers. Old me would why not my way to misery. Now I'm thinking I already volunteer in 2 classes and go on all the field trips. I would get nothing from running meetings and fundraising. I am not good at it, and frankly I don't want to be. I will throw money to have no part in that.

I fell off my wagon due to a whole lot going on. New very sick rescue kitty (just fostering? idk right now!), work stuff stress, too cold for a walk, or to shop for the foods I need! Yoga mat temporarily repurposed, and house is too cold for eating salads, lol! Fruit also not appealing in the cold (no wonder it ripens in the heat, lol!). I am usually on couch with covers, and still not really toasty these past few days. Definitely looking forward to upgrading the heating and insulation when I redo the house!
May try to get to store today to pick up a few things - 3pm will be the warmest until Wednesday.
Overall - over the past week the resolutions fell one by one until yesterday when I did NONE of them. I will just get back up and regroup as soon as I can. All my resolutions are super simple stuff that should be done daily or almost daily no matter what, so I am fogiving myself, getting through this time of external and internal stress and then to carry on!

I got one of those electric blanket ponchos to stay warm when the house is chilly, and it is extra toasty. It has a plug built into the poncho that lets me unplug it to walk around the house and then plug it back in when I sit back down to read. I will be off the gym wagon tomorrow because I won't have my car, but I have a virtual mini golf game scheduled with my dad instead. My husband is going to drive my car in to work due to the snow/ice storm, so I will be stuck at home.

I asked for no pardon and accept no forgiveness. Sidebar: Where is your progress on world peace? If new years resolutions are foolish and wasted efforts, certainly your pestering shenanigans is more wasteful! Where did I say "resolutions are foolish and wasted efforts"? I only said I don't make them because I would break them. Never said resolutions were foolish or wasted efforts especially for everyone. No, you didn't. I would, but you didn't.
