Before my cleaner comes, I usually have to hide dirty dishes that don't fit in the dishwasher bc I'm not paying for her time to wash them. Sometimes I have to get very creative with my hiding spots and we find them a few days later LOL.

Went to the Dollar Tree this morning and bought things for an upcoming event, a Valentine's card and candy for DH, and I stocked up on 2/$1 condolence cards. Last night I picked up the rest of my prescriptions so I should be all set for a while. This weekend: ~Brunch with friends ~A "baking session" with the neighbor kiddos. One of the twins checked out a recipe book from the library, so this was his idea. So cute! ~An Italian themed date night at home including angel hair pasta with meat sauce, and Goodfellas on VHS. ~Football on Sundy. Stupid Chiefs.... Have a wonderful weekend, friends.

My cleaners bring their own vacuum, mop, etc. so I don't have to deal with that. They don't go in the cat box room. I take care of that myself. I put dirty dishes in the dishwasher and other things that are on the countertops sometimes go in the dishwasher. Depends on how many dishes are in there. I "hide" other things in one of the two extra bedrooms and then I can't remember where such and such is.

I had a pretty productive afternoon. I took down the smoke detector in the family room and filled the screw holes, same with carbon monoxide detector. While the spackle was drying I put together my new can stacker that arrived today for the pantry. Earlier in the day I had emptied everything out of the pantry and put it on the counter trying to group like things together. Then I wiped down all the shelves and started putting things back inside. Having the second can stacker has made a huge difference in the organization of the pantry. Things are once again grouped together, by my organizational way. DD stopped by and was trying to change things around and I put a stop to that. I can also see see where things are and will hopefully be able to fine things without having to move stuff around looking for things which made an even bigger mess. After the pantry fun I sanded the spackle in the family room and did touch up paint. Tomorrow I will be able to put up the new combination smoke / carbon monoxide detector in that room and move the smoke detector only to my bedroom. This is the can stacker I use.

We had dinner with friends in town last night. Since we drove, we left early and made two stops to drop off items for other people, so that Stuff is out of the house now. (There were some items from when DH cleared out the boxes in his friend's basement last fall, and a birthday gift that hadn't arrived in time.) DH put one of the tilt-and-turn windows out of whack last night. The contractor fixed it this morning. He'll come back to do an estimate to replace the small window in DS2's room and the front door. The good news is, we don't need to replace the small kitchen window or the back door. He'll put an air vent in the back door to stop the condensation.

Yesterday was spent with me out and about looking at recliners. I than spent about 3 hours inside costco. I had a eye appointment with my new doctor who I really like and spent time getting new glasses. WHY IN THE WORLD DID I NOT DO THIS BEFORE The frames were so reasonable and from name brands and the cost of everything (anti-glare, scratch resistance, blue light, etc.) was included in the glasses themselves! Plus, when you buy a extra pair of glasses it's $50 off. I managed to get 3 set of glasses and my exam for under $675. I've had glasses that cost over $400 by themselves with insurance! I also found out that I have a eye condition along with stigitusm? For the life of me I don't ever remember my old eye Dr saying that I had one. But from the way my prescription had changed, I've had it for a while. Once done with my eye issues I managed to find yard/lawn fabric there and the rolls wee only $35 for 4ft x 225ft! I picked up 2 rolls which will come in handy for the front yard later this year. Today has been quiet and I have been a loaf. I plan on doing a few things tomorrow including setting up my printer and emptying a few boxes.

I pay a lot more than $675 with insurance. I had to drop my vision insurance because no one here accepts it.
Did you go to a chain?
The new computer is 95% set up. Just a few more things to load and then that is the one I will be using.
I was amazed it connect to the printer. To be sure I had it print a test page and it did.

I am unable to do insurance right now with my inheritance and the 10 year distribution. In a few years once everything is settled than I can look into state insurance. I still have my HSA so that's what I used. Where I am the eye exam inside Costco was only $100 plus a extra $35 for the retina eye photos. Of course, I believe you need a membership though.

I had an eye exam and bought glasses at Costco a week and a half ago. The $100 eye exam is a thing here, too. The glasses were covered by my federal employees' vision insurance except for $35. I'm really happy with them. It's fantastic to be able to see clearly. Mine are made for computer users with an added oomph for close reading.

I finally got the too small HSN boots out the door to UPS. Had to use a UPS access center nearby. Got a receipt sent to my email so that's one box out of the hallway. A few more to go. I need to make an eye doctor appointment but probably won't until I get signed up for the county bus. I think I am behind on things I was supposed to accomplish for my retiring PCP as I started devoting time to calling my dad when he was still talking. The whole into the hospital to passed as he wanted was just 3 Fridays. So now I still need to find critter care if I am to fly out at all which will have to be on the estate's dime or from my generous friend's boys (men). I want to see her and this house dad bought for basically a year of living. IDK. Not getting as much done as I'd like, I keep fading around 8 or so PM. I hope after the infection around the tooth I am getting extracted heals up that I will have more energy and be able to do more. Lots to do today. Ending up not getting two loads of laundry done because I did the UPS box drop off an hour later than planned. Lots of rain today so it will be interesting cramming in loads of fleece and work laundry. Going to run the dishwasher soon which will keep Moon Shadow on the quiet side for at least an hour.

Costco is at least 90 minutes away and after seeing the crowd there on a weekday, that's a no.
I don't know if Sam's Club has vision and if I would have to be a member.

Good morning! I'm writing my list for today, and then I'll work on doing it. We've mostly kept up with the mail this week. I also had some under-the-cabinet lights delivered, and I put two of those in. They're working well, and I might order more. We did a Costco run yesterday. I've been on the look-out for doormats, and Costco had some for only $12. My new house has a ton of doors, and DH is wretched about tracking in dirt, mud, grass, etc. I bought four door mats, so hopefully this will help deter some of the tracking.

Finally got some real sleep, woke up with a headache, and having coffee now. Hope that fixes it!
Yesterday was another tough day. Helped my mother with her transfer from the hospital to a rehab facility. This hospitalization was kind of a close call (she is DNR) so we were visiting her every day, but sometimes taking turns between my brother and I. I'm in the middle of this interview series for that big promotion otherwise I would have taken some time off. My mother isn't in great shape, the doctor said she is stabilized but the underlying conditions were not addressed. I asked for prognosis, but he just laughed and said at this age every day is a gift. Which, while true, tells me nothing. So she is stablized with serious conditions that will not be addressed. She is in rehab as the week in bed has left her very weak, at one point not being able to feed herself, so she need more intensive help to build back up. I would be looking to start some FMLA conversations at work, except I think that would take me out of the running for the promotion - whether consciously or unconsciously! - my current boss is the one who will make the hiring decision. So as usual, I am pushing myself to my limits. I've considered withdrawing my candidacy for the promotion and my mother's illness is certainly a reasonable reason without looking non-ambitious or like I think I don't measure up.
But I am so at the edge emotionally that I think it best to not make any major decision like that that I may regret later. So I am trying to just take it one day at a time and do what I need to do in each day and hope for a good night's sleep at the end of it. Day before last I had insomnia pretty bad, and the day was brutal. Today I don't need to leave the house as my brother will visit so
And I still have my critical cat patient in the attic that requires hours of visitation each day....he is still sick so I have a decontamination protocol when leaving - that makes me visit him less, but for longer periods, and he is very sweet and attached now and clingy when I try to leave. He also wants to exit the attic. He should probably go to the vet again but given my other things going on and he is definitely improving, that will need to wait - and maybe he can clear up completely with more rest and steady food?
With all that out! For today, I will continue to take it easy on my self but I do need to get some stuff done.
Finish putting away Christmas Clean the kitchen super good, all the scrubbing, etc. Unpack all the recent deliveries and clear out all the boxes in the house Get the robovac set up on first floor.
If I get super energized, I will try to mop the first floor.
Right now - about time for more coffee!

Maybe you can ask for the admitting diagnosis at the Rehab facility. Monday not first thing is probably better than today. Weekend staffing is rarely great and often has more callouts. How old is your mom? Sorry about the cat but I agree I'd stick with what is working since you are juggling so much.

Got my work clothes laundry done but had to retire my light white plastic bag I had been using when one of the handles broke under the weight of everything. Its raining today so that kind of sucks, but its been going for awhile given all the holes that developed over time. Any suggestions for laundry bags or similar? I think I might get something like a laundry duffle or bag as it was much easier using that large plastic bag to tote laundry than the laundry totes I have. I had paper and stuff in my small laundry tote so more filing. Wish that could wait but it appears the time is now. I also plan to put away the remaining Xmas stuff and put out my Valentines day stuff. Might only get all that done and fleece laundry. May have to skip the bus round trip to the grocery store in order to have things put away by tonight. Not sure what to do with the hay that arrived from a canceled Chewy order. They did credit me back but I was so hoping I caught it in time not to get the hay. The box is big and I don't know what to do with it. Probably going to have to stick it my way somewhere in the LR/DR area as I almost wiped myself out on it doing my load of laundry. Do not want another falling down steps accident, I need to stay mobile and walking.

I think this is a good thread for me to get on. I post this stuff in what are you doing today and think this would be much better place.
Most of you already know we will be relocating in the next year or two. 2 things slowed us down, first the rising interest rates, thankfully, though it was not the plan we sold 3 places last year and bought the part time one in Washington. But we have the most expensive yet to sell, our house, and hubs folks house. But now we are thankful we sold the others when we did. The other is he turned up with prostrate cancer which stopped everything for awhile as he had surgery and we still don't know what will happen. We want to continue his rehab here. He goes back Monday as his PSA is rising, even though very slightly, so not a good sign. Now we wonder what his health will allow.
But we are moving forward, slowly.
I too don't want to leave our house and buildings to be done by son and family or a disposable place. We do have tons of really good and expensive tools and such hubs wants our son to have and he wants them.
So right now our steps we hope to take are: Son getting the garage built, he has found a surveyor and the builder he wants, they are starting on drawings to get an estimate for the garage we can afford. We are hoping $40k to $50k for a 30 X 40 with 2 garage bays and the rest or shelving and areas for tools. But the survey will determine whether the place they have selected will work for that. So we have time for that.
Hubs around April will take the pontoon boat up we are giving them, we are going to try and park it at our retirement place in the carport for now. And hubs has to buy a trailer to take all the tools in, he is looking for a used one, we can probably find one for a reasonable price.
In the interim, I will continue to purge as I have. We are having a yard sale for a bunch of stuff this summer to see if we can get rid of any of it for money. If not it will be given away. A few pieces of furniture will be left with the house, the better things will go with us. We have new temperapedic beds, a nice bedroom suite. DD only wants her bed, but I hesitate to get rid of her dresser and TV stand, they are well made. We will keep our dinette set and china cabinet, the table and chairs were custom made. Keeping grandfather clocks, etagere, 2 recliners, and end tables. We may get pods when ready but we do have another house we can store things in till we moved.
Hubs needs to sell a truck, backhoe, motorhome, maybe another flat bed trailer.
We also will need to repaint in the garage, paint a couple of steel entrance doors and paint DD's bathroom. Those are minor things and after we move may need more painting if things get nicked or scratched.
And the big debate is do we finish out the basement with a 3rd bathroom. If hubs health is ok, he can do it for probably $5k, if not it likely will not be done. We are not sure it will bring more money, but think it might help the place to sell. Prices seem to be down right now and we have a minimum amount we do not want to go below.
But what I can continue doing is purge, purge, purge. And I will.
So see why I say this will take a year or two? We will be 78 this year so we could be getting into that age 80 time frame. I don't want to go that long either but who knows. Of course if we both get sick a lot could change. Anyway, that's the plan, will it work, who knows?
And yes compared to this it will be downsizing, no matter what other house we buy.

Sorry to hear about the water issues moneysquirrel . Hope everything is back to normal now. Thanks debthaven, Water was back to normal by the next afternoon. Since then I managed to get caught up on laundry and am currently running the dishwasher. Have decided to tackle the craft/beading room this week. Worked some yesterday as well as this morning. I have a lot of storage in that room (several bookcases as well as a shelving unit in the closet) and am slowly redesigning where things are placed. Have selected several items for donation as well as eliminated several bags of clutter/papers/etc. Still only about half way done. I am trying to eliminate some small bins if I can. Classes are back in session so that occupies several hours on several days. This week's activities/goals:*Finish organizing the craft/beading room. *Classes -- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday *Meeting -- Wednesday PM *Errand Day -- Friday *J's birthday --Tuesday *Lawn -- Payment *Begin a new bead project -- once the room is done. *Put the Mardi Gras flag outside *Begin wearing my MG items. startsmart -- love the cabinets! Will check in when I can. Take care all!

Charging the robo vac, will try to use tomorrow, boxes all in Garage for use in garden later, good progress in kitchen and Christmas put away. Easy work day tomorrow, will try to visit my mom at lunchtime, and then do a little more cleaning tomorrow. Did enough to feel more at ease. But I cheated by asking DS to come and help! He did a lot! Visiting the cat patient right now…will stay an hour or so and then make a simple dinner.

I hope it goes as well as can be expected for both of you.

NastyWoman have not seen one like that in the laundry room I use. Pretty impressive that it has a spot for laundry detergent too.

I wiped down the laundry room counters and sink and the liquid dispensers in the washer. Then I gave Bill the Dog a hair cut. The hair cut alone took 1.5 hours. I need to start on my Sunday evening work list.

I hope you are able to get enough rest and maintain your balance while juggling the intense demands on you, Rukh O'Rorke . Thinking of you. So yesterday I got sick of myself procrastinating and took out the new automatic scrub brush that someone on this thread mentioned getting. With some Kaboom I tackled the bathroom and it looks great, including the wall right by the toilet. Men! You'd think they'd have an easier time tracking what's going on. After all, they can see it all, right? I cleaned that wall and the edge of the bathtub where it meets the floor, and the sink, and the shower door tracks, and the glass shower door. Also scrubbed the toilet and washed the floor. I'll use the brush to scrub out the refrigerator next, I think. I also bought this, to hang coats and jackets by the front door: Coat hooksWe have a coat closet but it's nowhere near the door, so I tend to heap jackets and sweaters on the nearest chair. This should help.

Jumping in on the housecleaner discussion. As someone who cleans houses as a side hustle (I currently have 3 on rotation), I VERY MUCH appreciate when the flat surfaces are cleared off. I have 1 house that does it religiously, 1 house that does it most of the time, and 1 house that never does it. That 3rd house takes me the most time to clean and it's my smallest house. To be fair, they don't do ANY cleaning and its a borderline gag fest when I walk in, but still. Something as simple as clearing those surfaces will cut a ton of time off your cleaning service and that can add up to savings if you are paying by the hour.

I pay by the service but time went into the cost. I am told my house is one of their easier ones in part because the surfaces are clean. It also helps that I don't have children. Two people get in and out of here in about an hour. We laugh that it's mostly cat hair.

Here we pay by per hour. The minimum is 3h/week, which is what we have. Now that the kids are gone I asked about every other week, but no such animal here. I suppose you could set it up yourself with family or friends, but frankly I'm happy with weekly cleaning. nikiz628 I remember your old posts about redoing/fixing up your house, and I remember what a fabulous organizer you are! Could offer that service as well?! Do you have a website? If not, you should start one! finnime I am both fascinated and repelled by that LOL.
