Taylor Swift's ‘Time' Cover Is Breaking Far-Right Brains

Time magazine declared Taylor Swift as 2023's person of the year on Wednesday, and accompanied the announcement with a rare interview from the artist in which she reflected on the year of her career that truly put her on top of the world. Unsurprisingly, right-wing commentators took the opportunity to interpret Swift's well-earned success to launch into a conspiracy theory bender.

Swift, who has publicly aligned herself with the pro-choice movement and declared her opposition to former President Donald Trump, has become the ire of a vocal group of conservatives hell-bent on the bizarre notion that the singer is a political weapon aimed at the upcoming presidential election.

End of Wokeness, a far-right account with nearly 2 million followers, credited Swift with having enough rizz to convince a "cult-like following" to "drink poisoned Kool Aid for her." In the same post, the account prophesied that the singer-songwriter's next step would be "Politics," adding, "If you don't think the regime has plans to weaponize her just in time for 2024, you clearly have not been paying attention."
Echoing the far-right fear-mongering, former Trump immigration adviser Stephen Miller tweeted, "What's happening with Taylor Swift is not organic."

As Trump surrogates stumbled over themselves to chime in, Jack Posobiec, a well-known alt-right troll whom Trump has retweeted, piped, "The Taylor Swift girlboss psyop has been fully activated." Posobiec also took a lame jab at Travis Kelce. "From her hand-selected vaccine shill boyfriend to her D*** lifestyle to her upcoming 2024 voter operation for Democrats on abortion rights It's all coming" he bemoaned.

There are places that specialize in old records. I know NYC has at least one, as should Princeton. And then there is Amazon & Ebay. No excuses Dondub, you might be able to find your next copy if you look.

This!  I don't understand the appeal of her over other really great female artists, but she is crazy popular!  I'm not really a fan of her style of music, but I cannot deny that she does a TON of great work bringing awareness to her fans, and also donates more to charity than probably any other celeb is doing right now. Every city she visits gets a boost in donations to various charities not just from her, but her fans who admire her. She is making a HUGE impact on the world through her music and her humble generosity, and that is why she is the person of the year!

i think i get it.  she is kind of sterotypically beautiful and talented.  those are NOT what makes her popular, however.  her secret sauce is that she meets people at their level.  she is not "performing" in a sense.  she is telling her story.  it is actually VERY unusual for pop artists to do that.  GENERALLY they tell stories that other people can relate to, or are entertaining, but are not really their own.  they HIDE behind their art, in other words.  Swift is more like Carole King.  she says things that people can really sink their teeth into, and feel- at a personal level.  her honesty, candor, and "real-ness" is what sets her apart.  she is not some stupid fantasy made up by some record label or producer.  she is herself.  at all times.  or at least she tries to be.

it is highly unusual, vulnerable, and really resonates with her fans.

note to the board: i admire her as a songwriter and a person, even though i am not a fan of her music.

The food bank donation in the city near me was one of the single largest they'd received all year and still people bash her.  "Well, it's just a tax write off and she's still a billionaire and it's pocket change to her and yada yada..."

So what if she's still rich?  These places are getting huge donations that they wouldn't have otherwise.  It's not like the fans paying a fortune for her tickets would have instead thrown all that money at the food bank.

People do not get most magazine covers are not about deserving. Its what the magazine thinks will help sell more copies. I loved her country music, but not so much the pop stuff.  But as someone else said, she is singing HER life.

I read where one guy who was working with her on some music & was staying at one of her homes with her while they worked...he said he had NEVER seen her waited on by any staff and SHE was the one cooking them breakfast & dinner, not any hired help.

Then there was also the video of her first appearance at an NFL game...after the game, someone videoed her cleaning up the area in the box where she had sat with Travis' mother.  She picked up discarded drink containers & other trash & took it to the trash can at the rear of the box.
Soooo, she isn't putting herself on a pedestal above everyone else.
