Favorite Drink: Sometimes I drink water... just to surprise my liver!

I'm house sitting right now. I heard something in the backyard, so called police. They are currently searching the house.
I really didn't need this! But I'm glad they're here. So far, they found an outside door that was closed, but not tight and not locked! It goes to the master bedroom, where I've been sleeping. I have not opened that door for any reason, while I've been here.
Holy Moly!
Once the police got here, I took the sign off the front door, so it wouldn't rattle from the wind and continue to scare me.
Ugh!

Update- all is well. They searched the house, garage and backyard. Didn't find anything that looked out of place, except the one door, that seemed locked by the deadbolt, but could be pushed open, with not much effort. Thankfully, they worked on it for a bit and finally got it to close and actually lock, securely.
Super nice officers. They said they'll hang out in the area, to watch out for me. And said to call back if I have any other concerns. I will call their supervisor tomorrow and compliment all 3 of them, for the job they did and the way they handled the call.
DD2 AND DSonIL ought to be thrilled, when they watch the video from their Ring doorbell, seeing the police at their door, tomorrow. Or if it wakes them up tonight. (It's 1:50 AM currently, where I am.) SIGH.
Better safe, then sorry! Whew!

I'm glad everything is OK. remember when I had to call about my carbon monoxide detector. That might have gone to the fire department. I know its a gas and being wrong could be deadly, but I still felt stupid when it turned out the detector itself was failing. I and the critters in their carry cages were sitting on the front porch. This is when I had Raphael the water dragon was about 27 inches from nose to tail tip.
Glad you are safe. I heard a weird noise the other night, and walked around inside until I figured out where it came from. The weather here is going in and out of freezing so back to certain fall into winter noises.

TMR - sorry you were so scared and alone. Glad the police were helpful. Likely that your grandkids ran thru that door at some time or another and didn't get it locked back up. That happens at my house far too often.

My dad went to my grandma's house a couple years ago to pick up my aunt and uncle's dog. The three of them went on a trip and my dad was dog sitting. Due to my dad's work schedule, they left in the morning and my dad headed down when he got up to pick up the dog.
He opened up the slider in the master to let the dog out into the backyard as usual. Probably brought the dog into the house via the door in the kitchen. Forgot about the open slider. Took the dog and it's stuff, locked the front door and drove home.
A week later my brother and I show up at grandma's at night. It's late and we are tired. We prefer cooler sleeping temperatures anyway. But it's really cold out like freezing the windshield washer fluid up cold, single digits cold. It was so late and when I couldn't sleep, I just tossed a blanket in the dryer. Wrapped myself up and went to sleep. We got up early and showered and headed north to our other grandma's and dad's. Gone all day. Get back home late again and it's still chilly inside. I finally went in the master and found the open slider. Then we had to go around checking to make sure all the guns and stuff were still there.
Luckily the worst that happened was a $450 electric bill from where the furnace ran and ran. My dad tried to pay her for it and she fed his check down the shredder in front of him.
The slider opened onto a covered deck so fortunately it was somewhat sheltered.
Probably easily the kids and I know when I'm leaving for a big trip it's always last minute chaos no matter how early I start.

Glad you called the police to check it out, and that there was no issue found. Take care.
