Series I loved from him include the Jeffersons, Sanford and Son, and One Day at a Time. It's amazing how well his older work holds up.

I loved a lot of his shows. But Maude, AKA Bea Arthur, choosing an abortion before RvW set the standard. Why are women still fighting this battle now? link

Why are women still fighting this battle now? linkSkipping your link for now as I will be going to move laundry around soon. Spun off of Lear’s “All in the Family,” “Maude,” starring Bea Arthur, was the first sitcom that dared to set its story around a middle-aged, four-times-married feminist whose outspoken demeanor challenged sexist tropes of the day. The show featured Arthur as the gravelly voiced matriarch of the household who was often mistaken for her husband when she answered the phone (“He has a much higher voice,” she quipped). But the comedy also tackled such taboo subjects as abortion and sexual assault, changing the way women were represented on network TV.

I think things go back and forth in human history. Look at where the Ming Dynasty was for gender equality etc. and where we are now. The link let me know that Good Times followed Maude which I sometimes forget. The theme song for Good Times is an underfunded persons anthem.
