Name me one thing Trump accomplished while he was in the White House. (Other than tax cuts for the wealthy.) I'll wait. The idea that he's "fighting for America" is hilarious. The only thing he fights for is to put more money into his wallet, at our expense.

They apparently agree with Trump's "if your famous they let you do it" line. I guess they would line up and let trump do it to them

I don't know about anyone else, but I am certainly gratified to know that such a fine, moral, upstanding person is so heavily involved in the education and care of children.

this concerned mommy act is as old as the hills.
i recall with absolute clarity how it played out with the record labeling nonsense that Tipper Gore spearheaded. it was wretched then, it is wretched now.
advice: let American parents decide what they wish to do with their kid's education. they don't need the government doing that for them.

Ok, Moms for Liberty want to remove all the My Two Dads or My Two Moms book from school libraries because they will corrupt our innocent children, but My Two Moms and a DAd books are fine??

Well, he whose name was not even to be mentioned (the loser can name his son Barron but he can't make him a baron was considered an attack on the child) actually share a daddy with three mommies. So ipso facto rhe loser can never make it into any history books because it would corrupt innocent children... Come to think of it, unless there is a very good explanation for how we got where we are now that is probably a correct statement. Still we can't deny the truth, so explantion it is

the way to handle this is to be involved with your kids.
Me: play me what you are listening to. i am interested. you like this. why do you like it?
i mean that level of interest is just good parenting. labeling, etc, is an excuse to check out and not be a parent. it is abdicating parenting to the state.
my opinion, of course.

i get parents that say
"who has time for that?"
but for me, it is an opportunity to grow along with your child.
i also get parents that say
"i can't stand listening to that crap".
my response is- if you get used to it, your kid might not play it so much. no kid wants to listen to stuff their parents approve of. particularly teenagers.
my son taught me about EDM. i hate it. well, not really. like all music, about 10% of it is worth listening to, and the rest is derivative and disposable. developing the ear for that is like working out. it is not easy. but it makes you healthy.

Did you watch the Nepali film Katmandu I posted somewhere on this board? It will be over 2 1/3 hours of your time. I hope it enlightens. I would be interested in your take, as I have been studying Bollywood films for years, so I do not see it with the eyes of a regular American who does not diet on international films.

if we had mandatory parental leave and mandatory vacation time, we could spend more time with our kids.
just sayin.
they have it in Costa Rica. they absolutely have it in France. in fact, they have government nannies in France. it is insane how different things CAN be. if we were not busy screaming our asses off to increase FMW and get basic healthcare.

I know. I am aware. If it weren't for the weather, Canada, or the rampant smoking (France) I might be in either of those countries right now. I do want to start visiting parts of Canada when its warmer as there is much to see. And France is like NJ but different. They have all sorts of different hmmm spaces. Brain seizing up. Many things in France. Much in Germany which I get a little better due to my German heritage. Played volleyball one year with a man who said he lived in France on the German side and another man who lived in Germany on the French side. I want to go to Costa Rica, to Belize, etc. I want to go to Provence this Summer (2024) even though I have no idea how it would be paid for. I want to stomp down the corridors of power in DC and change things for the better. Save the underfunded, save the US. Yes we all know I am idealistic, but weirdly practical, and in RL sometimes quite memorable. Maybe I will edit this in the morning after some hours of sleep. ETA - I know you aren't just speaking to me. Got a nap in instead of critter tending. I think Moon Shadow and Crestie are good until morning.

And now for something completely different,
A video simulation of driving a computer simulated car to over 400 mph. I can see real issues in the very beginning I would not umm tolerate and it ends with a nice crash at the end probably because of the simulated course.

Costa Rica is not that expensive to travel to if you plan well in advance. Alaska had a promotional fare not long ago for $259RT. Accommodations are cheap if you stay away from the coasts. Which i recommend anyway. the inland mountains are temperate year around.

Locally the members of Mom's for Liberty like to stir up crap and ask for books to be banned from the public schools. They are a bunch of hypocrites because none of their kids go to public schools. Why the county entertains this garbage I don't know. Some of them have run for the school board and it makes it very easy to decide who to vote for. If you are endorsed by that hateful group no vote for you. I love the ones with bumper stickers plastered on their vehicles so I know who to avoid.

Its not like some other countries where they mostly exist to serve underserved communities.

i might also point out that this is precisely what happened in South Africa. under British Rule, until the Nationalist Party took over in 1958, it was the custom to educate black South Africans- i think for free. that was rapidly curtailed when people like Mandela navigated the system and discovered people like Thomas Jefferson, and the US legal system.
now, we are busy dismantling that. we have been losing ground for half a century because of it. and the GOP is blaming "liberals" for that, when it is actually conservative principles that are doing it. and the more people BELIEVE that liberals are responsible for our decline, the more likely we are to become a fascist state. it is precisely the technique that dishonest men like Goebbles used. the big lie.

Yes it was one idea. Books on my shelf that suggest others: Schooling in Capitalist America: Educational Reform and the Contradictions of Economic Life by Bowles and Gintis. The One Best System: A History of American Urban Education by David B. Tyack Class, Bureaucracy, and Schools: The Illusion of Educational Change in America by Michael B. Katz. History of Education was part of my graduate studies.

Ted Cruz is trying to sell the liberals love open borders lie. Does anyone believe this guy at all since he threw his own daughter under the bus to escape Texas? I often wonder what these people think. Do they think the border is one sliding metal door that Trump can drag into a track on day 1?
