I just about spit out my water on the screen when someone posted "Happy Shanksgiving" regarding this incident...

A lot of people were talking about how it's ironic he got shanked on black Friday. I hope he makes a full recovery... So they can do it again.

"like any incarcerated individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence.”
Do you think the warden was being sarcastic? 🤔

"like any incarcerated individual, he should be able to serve his sentence without fear of retaliation or violence.” Do you think the warden was being sarcastic? 🤔 No. Violence is dangerous to staff, even if it is initially inmate to inmate. Condemnation of it whenever it happens is important.

First Nassar, now this guy. A few more high profile stabbing of white guys and we may get prison reform.

The news is claiming tonight that Chauvin was stabbed 22 times by a member of the Mexican mafia. And yes, he did it on Black Friday for a reason, to show solidarity.

Because I freely admit that I am a work in progress, I will also admit that my concern about him being stabbed in prison is somewhere near the bottom of the last page of things I am concerned about. I do try very hard not to actually wish harm on anyone, but some people are so horrible that if harm finds them…. 🤷🏽♀️.

If it was Mexican Mafia, it could also have been staged as a warning to the security guards too. Depends on who the guy was in the Mexican Mafia and where he fit in the hierarchy. Just Opti guessing/musing. Watching the TV series, the Wire really opened my eyes to the reality of life for some folks I share the planet with. Couple other series went with that including Breaking Bad which I watched way after most people. And Weeds. TG for the public library.

Prison life is all about respect. There is a pecking order and some people are treated as sub human. Those would be those who commit crimes against women and children as well as cops. He's trash according to inmates. He needed to be made an example of. A guard will let the inmates have their way with him. They can't let them kill him, but they can let them hurt him pretty bad.

I know a guy who used to work at a prison. There are times, even when the guards are supposed to intervene, when they won't get involved immediately because they'll be putting themselves in danger. Best to wait for backup. Plus, once word gets around on what a prisoner actually did (the most innocent looking ones often commit the most horrible crimes), the guards just don't care if a little "jailhouse justice" happens.

I doubt they get paid enough to insert themselves into every dangerous situation they encounter on a daily basis. At some point they have to have some self preservation.

I grew up in "The Wire". Some of it is accurate, some not so much. I have many family members who have been in and out of prison. Correctional officers DNGAF about prisoners killing each other. They want to get home safely every night. The most accurate part of "The Wire" is drug dealers who actually give back to the community. Oxymoron, I know. But that is what I experienced.
