I usually host, but this year I'm going to my brother's. I'm bringing mashed potatoes and deviled eggs. DD is making gluten free stuffing. I am also bringing my dad who is bringing the regular stuffing and a ham. I may also have to get wine since my sister's flight is delayed and she may not get to the liquor store after her plane lands. . que? this has to be yet another way that MA is ass-backwards, right? we don't have alcohol sales tomorrow, at all. even in stores that aren't packies but happen to sell alcohol. what about duty free?

Well, I got another text earlier this morning to remind son to give me salmon/halibut and who knows what else he caught. It's a running joke that I don't get fish except enough to eat in a week during hurricane season. This is from his catch in July in Kodiak. So that will add to an already Happy Thanksgiving day with family.

We eat early in my family so I’m ready to be rolled to the couch. I cleaned in between cooking so it wasn’t too bad. All the leftovers packed away in what seems like 50 lock n lock containers.

I may attempt making stuffing with what I have in the house. I am out of fresh celery but I do have onion and spices. Hopefully some turkey broth left too.
Had my TG dinner around 1 to 2 PM which was fine. I however am failing at hydration so far today, so I need to suck it up. Might make tuna salad for dinner if my stuffing attempt fails due to lack of broth.

My maple syrup roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon were a hit at the little kids' table. Not Brussels sprouts fans until today.

It's very hard and slippery to peel, then cutting it is difficult because it's so dense. I generally ask YDB to bring some. For me, I buy when I can frozen pre-cut squash. It does freeze well. When I task myself with a whole squash I use very sharp tools to peel and cut, and give myself time.

My salad was really yummie. And if the "seconds" plates of others were anything to go by so were the carrots. I only eat raw carrots so I wouldn't know but heaping second helpings are a good sign right?

Not as often as other fresh pre cut veggies but I snatch it up when available.

I did 1/2 the butternut just baked face down on tray with acorn type squash. the other half I cubed and roasted with olive oil and chopped rosemary. Just a googled up recipe. It was fine, but would look for a different one for next time. I preferred the baked, at least it held the heat, lol! So many foods on your plate at once, everything gets cold it seems!

I always figure in one hour minimum wage when having to fight with something like butternut squash. Even at 1/2 minimum hour prep it comes out about the same. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! And I’m a lazy cook

H. made dinner. We usually make the main items.
Early a.m. baked two pies Deviled eggs ready about 7:00 a.m. (I didn't eat any for breakfast!)
Put turkey in to bake about 8:00 a.m. I actually don't know what time he put it in. He went to play tennis so I got to take the temps of the bird.
Mashed potatoes cooked and gravy Made stove top after turkey cooked. We had Thanksgiving meal at noon. The cost was actually cheap. The Turkey was $12, 5 lbs potatoes 62 cents, $2 for stove top stuffing mix. We already had gravy mix packet. There wasn't one in the bird.
Neighbors bought grocer pre-made meal for $30 to serve 2 to 4. There were generous left overs.

Where in the world do you shop? For the 5 lbs of potatoes alone you would need to put a 3 in front of the decimal point here. And, depending on the size, that turkey sounds like you got a wonderful deal there as well.

The cherry pie had slim filling. Disappointing.
