New Jan. 6 Videos Released—Launching Wild Conspiracies From The Far Right

Right-wing loyalists of former President Donald Trump are using newly released footage of the January 6 Capitol riots to further a debunked narrative that law enforcement orchestrated the attacks in order to distract from election fraud —the latest far-right conspiracy intended to downplay Trump supporters’ role in the insurrection.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) publicly released 90 hours of new footage of the riots on Friday, making good on a promise he made during his campaign for speaker as Trump allies in Congress have repeatedly called for all the tapes to be made public, claiming they will prove rioters were wrongly convicted.

Right-wing social media users are amplifying questionable interpretations of some of the clips, claiming they show law enforcement officials helping the rioters storm the Capitol, with some FBI officials acting as insurrectionists, coining the term “fedsurrection.”

One video that’s making the rounds on Twitter shows convicted rioter Kevin Lyons walking through a security checkpoint in the Capitol while raising an object in his hand that far-right social media users—including Rep. Marjorie Taylor-Greene— claim is a law enforcement badge, though it’s unclear what he’s holding, and some have argued it’s actually a vaping device.

Greene and others called on Johnson to create a new January 6 committee to re-investigate the Capitol attacks, insisting “I’ve said it all along, MAGA did not do this.”

Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) also retweeted the clip and said he “can’t wait to ask FBI Director Christopher Wray about this” at the next House oversight committee hearing.

I almost posted something I found from the PostMillenial. ( On Twitter now the social media platform known as X?)

Apparently, someone found a few minutes of video of a J6 protester walking calmly in the Capitol and wanted to bend a dumbass theory around it. Unless you are a RW brain dead sheeple, you should know that no person who commits mayhem is doing it constantly if they are somewhere for a significant period of time. The same losers could "prove" Hamas did nothing be finding a minute video clip of some of them joking laughing or eating dinner.

That does not prove that the time prior to that they weren't causing mayhem. Killing people, destroying property etc.

Supposedly the guy who was sentenced committed suicide after getting some terrorism charges attached to his sentence. Sucks, but every day people on the planet commit suicide for various reasons. Some of them make sense. Some like this are probably coward's ways out when they realize they are not the people they thought they were or are too concerned that people will think X about them now. Heck until today I didn't even know who this person was let alone they were one of the hundreds sentenced and processed.

You need to read and pay more attention. It was a planned insurrection by the Proud Boys and other white supremacist groups in addition to MAGATs and Trump patriot soldiers. It is worse than you know. It is worse than I know. They have destroyed priceless American furniture and art that can never be replaced in addition to the terror they sowed on American soil in our Capitol. Now that has happened in our American history, there is no turning back. Funny how the courts disagree. Proud Boys were convicted of sedition. And we know how you feel about court verdicts. If you are found guilty, then you are guilty, right? Sedition is a serious crime, right? Or is it ok if you do it to keep republicans in power?

disrupting an official proceeding is a felony.  a fairly serious one.
when done to disrupt a federal election, it is what other countries call a "soft coup".
i think that is an appropriate way to refer to this.
some might refer to it as a coup, but i don't think it meets the official definition,
because the military refused to cooperate.

the GF riots didn't disrupt an official proceeding.  if the J6 rioters had stayed OUT of the Capitol, almost everyone would have skated.  they chose to run down Nancy Pelosi and others, and this is what they get for that.

The George Floyd rioters burned down buildings- that was bad, and insurers had to fork out money to pay for the losses. That sucks.

What the J6 ‘little rioters’ did, however, was disrupt the Capitol to prevent the peaceful transfer of power between the losing party candidate and the winning candidate, so that the loser had a little more time to find some court or army who would help him keep control of the White House, even though it was evident to everyone, including the loser, that he lost.

The only reason it did not involve the military was he couldn’t find a general who would agree to back his claim.

So you have some property damage ultimately covered by insurance vs an attempt to subvert our democracy so one puny man could get to play emperor.

Scgal, respectfully have you followed any of these trials? The charges and how long the process has been? They started being identified on J7 love. These are crimes against the US. Full stop. I think at least 10,000 people were involved that day more or less.

The Capitol was breached on all four sides. The White supremecists like the Proud Boys followed Trump's rehortic )sp) but acted same as some other groups. The assembled MAGAs called to order by Trump, Rudy G etc, only attacked two sides of the Capitol.
Conservatives literally bussed themselves in for this. MAGAs charted planes for this. Many stayed at local DC hotels the night before to assemble their J6 clothing and weapons.

Have you really seen the aerial pics of people crawling allover the building? I have not seen pics yet of at least two sides of the breach where they were far more determined and well armed. 

J6 will be talked about forever as part of  US's history as a country. Some like DJ wonder if we will even be a country or a country worth living in 2025 if Trump wins or even if he does not. History is to be written and my vote is for us to move forward from this horror and be a better country and a better people once we come out of the tunnel.

anyone who entered the Capitol without a hall pass and a monitor is guilty of trespassing, at a minimum.  according to the Stand Your Ground community, that is a death sentences, so if they were all gunned down by Capitol police, i am gathering that would have been justified.  but of course, they went much further than that by occupying the House chamber.  that is where the vote was to be certified, and with that band of "patriots" in there, that was not possible.  especially with them chanting Hang Mike Pence.

so, yes, this was not just any other riot.  it was organized and planned by insurrectionists, and it only failed due to the extent it was NOT organized and coordinated.  i doubt they will make the same mistake twice, if they skate.

Looking to follow the logic here - so a connection between severity of the crime and the number of people arrested. Hmmm? Thinking - five people are arrested for breaking into a store and stealing $3000 worth of electronics and in a separate crime only one person is arrested for destroying a $300 million painting that was hanging in a museum. Clearly, based on the severity of the crime, there should have been more arrests for the second crime than for the first. Right?

In video taken during the attack on Congress on 6 January 2021, the rioter was seen to say: “It’s going to be violent and yes, if you are asking, ‘Is Ryan Nichols going to bring violence? Yes, Ryan Nichols is going to bring violence.’”

I would like to know how the Law and Order party can reconcile this.  The link also included this statement telling us it was not a peaceful protest.  


Nichols, in an affidavit, admitted posting the video, attacking officers with pepper spray and urging rioters on with shouts including, “This is not a peaceful protest”.
