Favorite Drink: Sometimes I drink water... just to surprise my liver!

I'm sure I saw a movie years ago, about a man (Robin Williams?), who was in a place with a terminal illness. No quality o life. He wanted to die, but they wouldn't allow him to. He quit eating so they inserted a feeding tube. He took them to court. I don't remember the other details.
It was so incredibly sad. I cry now, thinking about it, and of my mom who died of Alzheimers Disease. I absolutely know, I don't want to continue living under those circumstances. Machines, or not.
Death, like life, is hard, for so many reasons. I support euthanasia.

Death, like life, is hard, for so many reasons. I support euthanasia. In the summer of 2004, my sister and I drove our parents from Massachusetts to South Carolina where one of my brothers and his wife would oversee their care for their remaining time. Mom had full-blown Alzheimer's and we were moving them to SC because dad wasn't very good at making sure mom got all her meds. Dad tried but mom had always been dad's caretaker (meds wise) and now the roles were reversed. Dad was somewhat in a fog too. We drove the folks to SC. In the rented SUV, was their cat in its carrier in the back. During the ride, mom repeatedly asked oh maybe 100 times, "Where is the cat.". We told mom where the cat was, "In the back!". Mom kept asking if we could stop at a vet's office and have the cat AND her euthanized. Sister and I just looked at each other. we said no a few times. Mom was serious but when she mentally shorted out that was the end of the discussion at least for that day.

Death, like life, is hard, for so many reasons. I support euthanasia. There are advocacy groups around this. They call it VSED - Voluntarily Stop Eating and Drinking and is on the list of things promoted as death with dignity. I am my parent’s medical power of attorney if they ever become incapacitated. I went round and round and round deciding when to put my cats down - I can’t imagine what making the final decision about my parents. Unfortunately, they picked me because my sisters would keep them on life support long after. The day she told me I joked that she always knew I would kill her - now it is legal. And then I offered to get a pillow and take her out right then. 10 years later - she is still healthy and living life.

The right to lifers get involved too. Years ago there was a young woman who had a catastrophic brain incident that left her bedridden and immobile other than the ability to move her eyes. Zero cognitive ability. Her husband wanted to pull her feeding tube but her mother sued to keep her alive, and a bunch of right to life people jumped on board. Husband insisted his wife would not want to continue existing like that and he ultimately prevailed after many legal hoops. I don’t don’t think Jesus wants us to suffer like that. Just because we can medically do something doesn’t mean we should. I remember her - those fights will still occur if euthanasia was a common practice. People in families will always disagree. There are lots of people who go through the same disagreement but someone backs down before court and/or publicity. Shivo was only unusual because they activated the pro-life movement and there was no other news that week. Policy wise, I understand why offing grandma the first time she shows a hint of decline is problematic. I think we have already proven we don’t trust doctors to make medical decisions in the gray areas. There are doctors that are willing to say anything or sign untrue statements (Covid, vaccines, masks, etc) and doctors aren’t capable of deciding when a woman’s life or safety is at risk. How do we have some level of standards to keep things ethical? That said - put me down when things start to look bad. There was also the fact that for some reason Congress got jnvolved. If I remember correctly Rand Paul pulled his "I am a doctor" card and declared that based on some video tape, it'swhich he may or may not have watched, Shiavo was only in a deep coma from which she was recovering. After she died the autopsy proved that you should never elect Paul for your tele-medical consults as he failed that test miserably!

Not Rand Paul, although he is an idiot too, but Bill Frist, Senator from Tennessee. He was a heart surgeon. He made the stupid comment about the balloon

Rand Paul started his own specialty certification society because he couldn't pass the real one.
I feel embarrassed to say this, but he did his Ophthalmology residency at the same place and time as I did my residency. I do not recall ever interacting with him. Turns out he didn't graduate from Baylor before getting admitted to Medical School, which I highly suspect was aided by his daddy. He also pontificates on medical topics that are way outside his specialty. He knows as much about internal medicaine as I know about Ophthalmology

i believe he also set up his own certification agency or something. like i say, look into it. there is some serious weirdness about his pretense of being a doctor. i just can't reliably recount it.

That's what I meant in the first line. He did not graduate from baylor with an undergraduate degree. He went to Duke for Medical School. He father had significant connections there, so I suspect he pulled some strings. Followed by a Residency at Duke. He did not practice ling before he went into politics. He likes to "play" at being a doctor, and makes sure he gets publicity for when he does so. He never truly wanted to be a doctor, IMHO.

no worries. Medical societies and credentials can be confusing, so I assumed that might have been the issue. We all miss things

Speaking of fake schools, Trump said he’s starting Trump University.
No wokeness! No radical Muslims!
I can imagine the great classes he’ll provide. Economics 101 - Bankruptcy is Your Friend. Economics 102: Taxes are for Suckers. English 101: Speech Without Content. Religion 101: How To Pretend to be Christian.

trump will fly all his university graduates to Mar-a-lago on Trump Airlines to receive their diplomas. And charge them bigly for it. I thought their country of origin was going to pay for it. You know, like Mexico paid for the wall he had built. And he dares to throw tantrums and call others, "LIARS". He just never stops. Apparently, he's not smart enough to feel embarrassed, or remorse, for what he says, or does. Bash my head against the wall!

Everything trump touches turns into gold shit. Given how big of a fool Trump is, does that mean everything he owns is fool's gold-plated?
