Rupert Murdoch announced Thursday that he will step down as chairman of Fox Corporation and News Corp.

“For my entire professional life, I have been engaged daily with news and ideas, and that will not change,” Murdoch wrote in a memo to employees. “But the time is right for me to take on different roles, knowing that we have truly talented teams.”

His son, Lachlan Murdoch, will become sole chairman of both companies. Rupert Murdoch called his son “a passionate, principled leader.”

Fox News announced Rupert Murdoch’s retirement on its air Thursday morning, with anchor Bill Hemmer praising the network’s founder.

“Rupert Murdoch created all of this and so much more across America and the globe,” Hemmer said. “His life’s work has left an indelible imprint on the global media landscape. His contributions are both innumerable and extraordinary and we thank him for letting us be a part of it all.”

“Without him, we would not be here,” anchor Dana Perino added.

we will see if FOX is redeemable under someone else.

It sounds like his son will be getting the job.  Which means most likely FOX won't change.  Too bad.  That corporation could use some major change.

I think it was the son who is worse than Rupert. So changes for the worst.

News Corp is a public company.  Rupert doesn't call the shots.  the board does.

Lachlan is certainly being lined up to be successor

but he doesn't have any of his fathers charisma so nobody is sure how effectual a change of hands will be.

again, it is not his decision to make.  he can recommend.  but the BOARD has to approve.

A day after Lachlan Murdoch stepped up to take over as sole chairman of Fox Corp., the company is nominating two new members of its board of directors, according to a regulatory filing.

Perhaps the decision wasn't unanimous.
