I haven’t been following this. www.cbsnews.com/news/ufo-hearing-congress-uap-takeaways-whistleblower-conference-david-grusch-2023/I figure, why bother? We can’t build anything that will defend us from advanced aliens invading our planet. If they’re out there and they know we have a Goldilocks planet (one suitable for life) and they are capable of the technology capable of coming across the universe to our planet, they’ll show up like humans finding a termite colony - not very interested in us and willing to wipe us off the planet in order to preserve resources for themselves. So maybe the government has proof we’ve been visited by extra terrestrials but want to keep it from us so we don’t panic - probably a good idea. I saw a news clip with someone saying how important it was that we know the truth, so we can prepare our planet against attack - we can’t even get the planet organized to combat global climate change, and this has been the hottest month on the planet on record. Good luck trying to get everyone excited about the aliens. Anyone else have a good reason we need to know this for sure?

Some people said the black plague came from outer space - that aliens littered it onto the planet to kill off humans, so they could swoop in and take the planet. But, it wasn’t as successful as they hoped. Now, 700 years later, have they been back? Maybe. 🤔

they are either benevolent or non-existent.

I always wonder why extra terrestrials only visit America. You'd think it would be global issue.
I would think governments around the world would be after information and getting/having the ability to communicate with the aliens. Every country on earth would want to be the first to influence or ally with them.
(I am beginning to find it entertaining at how America/Americans act like we're the center of the universe on earth when there are only 330 million of us while the planet Earth has a population of close to 8 BILLION people.)
Why it's important: I can see were UAP/UFO's is a national security issue not because of extra terrestrials but because of the "arms race" or tech race with other nations (specifically India and China because they dwarf us....) I have a feeling America will become inconsequential at some point in global/world matters.
Why I don't think extra terrestrials are routinely visiting the planet earth for fun and whatever:
I think "time" is the biggest issue with extra terrestrials. It will take humans about 7 months of travel time just to get to Mars a close neighbor.
And then there's this tidbit: 100,000 years to travel the entire length of our galaxy (the Milky Way) AT THE SPEED OF LIGHT. Any alien life form that is that long lived or that can quickly overcome the distances - is going to think we are silly creatures that exist for an Eye Blink in time.
I think revisiting Carl Sagan's tv show Cosmos (even if it is a bit out of date) would be a good thing. We are Tiny Specks who exist for an eye blink in time in the Universe.

America is the best country, so obviously they want to observe us. How is that not obvious?😏

Prof Brian Cox who is our trusted guru on everything to do with space, has said that whilst there may be microbes out there, even in our solar system .... sentient life forms, in where the occupants are capable of space travel are very rare,
Nearer to about one per galaxy
Lots of galaxies of course, but our nearest one, Andromeda, is 2.5 million light years away.
You could work out the probabilities, I suppose, if you included all the correct parameters such as distance and windows of opportunity
but safe to say, they aren't here.
(We have only been capable of space travel in the last 50/60 years..... The Victorians didn't give a stuff about aliens)
I don't know who these people are talking to congress..... Its amusing, thats all.

I wish there wasn't a paywall at Washington Post. I think the below highlights what's being discussed in the subcommittee hearing. I guess it is important because it would suck for America to ignore the alien presence especially if other countries who are more open about aliens visiting are able to court the Alien visitors OR get first dibs on their technology I still think it's highly unlikely there are aliens continuously buzzing past and visiting earth. This is from a WaPo opinion piece By Dana Milbank: And then this: The gist of the opinion piece is that today's coverage is more about finding some news drama (and Republicans being able to cater to their base) because inflation is down, the economy is doing great, and unemployment is still low.

it is entirely possible that there are beings that are nearly immortal out there. 100000 years may not seem like much to them. But wouldn't earth/human change (say 100 years) seem like an eye blink to them? Would they really be interested in humans when our entire existence might be just a passing fancy for them (humans have been humans for what 300K years) what if we are gone entirely in another 300K years? I guess it depends on how one experiences "time passing". (I have the same issue with the concept of an immortal god - especially one that's interested in each and every human life (a personal god). I kind of feel sorry for such a god - having to witness/and participate in the same pain, suffering, joy over and over and over again for each and every human that's lived and will live and I'm guessing enjoying it? sometimes it just gives me a creepy feeling. )

Which means the 99% of aliens don't know or care about earth/humans. That's got to be good.

Considering we haven't yet gotten past our own moon I doubt aliens are worried about us getting to them anytime in the near or even very far future.

We can't even all agree that vaccines and face coverings are a good idea during a respiratory virus outbreak that killed millions. If hostile aliens decided to wipe us out, I have no doubt it would be over before we could figure out what was going on.
Do I think there is extraterrestrial life? Almost certainly. Do I think it's wasting its time doing flybys of our military? Not especially, no.
I also find it sad that what instead of being a point of wonder, confirmation that there is other sentient life on other plants, our first instinct as a species is "but how do we kill it though".
