I occasionally receive mail advising me the extended warrant on my vehicle is about to expire. The mail automatically gets trashed because I never had an extended warranty in the first place. LIARS!

I get them in both my name and my dad's name. My dad didn't own a car before he died. He last owned a car in 2013. Do they really think someone is going to buy a warranty for a car they don't own?

Received a letter today about consolidating my student loans. It has my name on it. My loans were paid off 40 years ago

I keep getting calls at my office about the COVID employee retention credit ( which we don’t qualify for). I asked one guy what his company gets out of pitching this to me, and he hung up.

We keep a landline so that we don't have to give our cell numbers out. I've noticed in the last couple of weeks that we are getting a lot of calls that only ring once. It is weird.

Is it cheaper to take a shotgun shot approach than to do good research and zero in on targets?

I actually enjoy the calls and letters to extend the warranty for the rental car I had once. I've never owned a 2016 Hyundai Accent, but I rented one for a week and traveled on a bunch of various toll roads, so I'm assuming they linked it that way somehow. I've been getting offers for like 3 years for it.

I keep getting calls at my office about the COVID employee retention credit ( which we don’t qualify for). I asked one guy what his company gets out of pitching this to me, and he hung up. I get marketing letters all the time, and so does my DH. At one point I told DH we didn’t qualify for one credit and he got so many calls and clients telling him they were getting $$, He got mad and said well everyone else is getting $$, so I filled out the f’in paperwork and submitted it and got a letter back that we didn’t qualify. It really is a shame-imagine all the people paying accounting professionals, only to be told-you don’t qualify. Hopefully people aren’t paying the ones sending the letters. One wonders if they fudge the numbers so people qualify?

One wonders if they fudge the numbers so people qualify? People are paying the ones sending the letters. They’re getting the letters, and oftentimes checking with their existing accounting professionals and being told they don’t qualify and why, then getting greedy and going back to the ERC mills to prepare amended 941’s to claim the credit anyways. But don’t want to then amend their income tax returns to properly account for the credit (that they didn’t really qualify for in the first place). At my old firm there was a handful of clients we disengaged due to this type of behavior. The ERC mills are often playing fast and loose with the partial shutdown rules to say people qualify, even when they clearly don’t. It’s a huge area of potential fraud that the IRS is focusing on more and more.

Why is the government doing this ERC now?? I’ve been hearing ads about the program. Crazy when government already did PPP at time when there were actual pandemic close downs

Crazy when government already did PPP at time when there were actual pandemic close downs It was only available for parts of 2020 and 2021, but taxpayers have until 2024 and 2025 to amend their 941’s to claim the credit. The ERC mills are spending a ton on advertising to drum up business before the amendment period closes.

I got another email today about the ERC, and replied, asking how the sending company would benefit from my applying for the credit. I later received a phone call, which I think was in response, and asked the person calling the same question. He replied that they get a percentage of whatever credit my business would receive.
