It seems over the last few years, the Federal government violated the 1st amendment by censoring information on Covid by talking with social media companies. The judge said in his 155 page ruling. I haven't read all 155 pages but the first page says it all.
""In their attempts to suppress alleged disinformation, the Federal Government, and particularly the Defendants named here, are alleged to have blatantly ignored the First Amendment’s right to free speech. Although the censorship alleged in this case almost exclusively targeted conservative speech, the issues raised herein go beyond party lines. The right to free speech is not a member of any political party and does not hold any political ideology. It is the purpose of the Free Speech Clause of the First Amendment to preserve an uninhibited marketplace of ideas in which truth will ultimately prevail, rather than to countenance monopolization of the market, whether it be by government itself or private licensee. Red Lion Broadcasting Co., v. F.C.C., 89 S. Ct. 1794, 1806 (1969).
I always thought the govt and social media censored conservative post about Covid and the Biden family.

paywall. i can't read it.
however, i disagree that the government has no right to suppress information that would cause extreme harm in a health emergency. i would like this ruling appealed, please.

Well since you said please. The Justice Department is appealing a judge’s order prohibiting various Biden administration agencies and officials from communicating with social media companies about certain content. link

Sure you did. The reason that conservatives had their Covid posts censored is because they were patently false. They were disinformation. But go ahead, tell me I am wrong, since I obviously have no idea what I am talking about. The media doesn’t have to censor information on the Biden family because there ain’t much there. They have the power of the federal government behind them, and if every republican under the sun didn’t try to avoid testifying before congress in order to avoid embarrassing trump, they would have even more power. But they still haven’t found anything. I guess you continue to be comfortably uninformed. And how in the world can a judge prevent the government from talking to that large a group. Is he some despot from a banana republic. So much for small government conservatives

This is disturbing, since we know our enemies use social media to spread disinformation in order to create chaos and infighting in our country.
Social media generally sucks at identifying and shutting down these covert operations.
If they won’t take the time to police themselves, the government should be able to step in and tell social media to delete any posts suggesting, say, you inject yourself with bleach or eat horse worming medicine to treat Covid.
We have scads of proof the average American is too gullible to be able to separate fact from fiction on the internet, so we need to just stick with facts.

I liken telling people to use horse dewormer or fish tank cleaning pellets to treat COVID to be like yelling "FIRE" in a movie theater. I can absolutely yell it all I want but there are consequences to my actions because I am putting the public in danger by spreading false information and creating potential hysteria.

Order limiting Biden officials' social media outreach on shaky legal ground, experts say(Reuters) - A federal judge's order restricting Biden administration officials from contacting social media companies about moderating their content will face tough legal challenges on appeal, experts said. Several legal scholars and attorneys said while the lawsuit challenging the administration's communications with social media companies raised real free speech concerns, there was no precedent to support the sweeping preliminary order issued Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty in Louisiana that would sharply limit dozens of government agencies and officials' communications with social media companies. The Biden administration on Wednesday filed a notice with the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals saying it was appealing the ruling. The lawsuit was brought by Republican attorneys general in Louisiana and Missouri, as well as several individuals. The plaintiffs alleged that U.S. officials violated their right to free speech under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution by pressuring social media companies to take down posts that officials worried could fuel vaccine hesitancy during the COVID-19 pandemic or conspiracy theories about elections. Social media algorithms promote dis-information above real news info. Elon instituted his paid blue checkmarks, and then altered the feed algorithm to rank blue checkmark tweets above non-checkmark tweets. Thus dis-info rises to the top of your feed, and to the top of all responses to a tweet. You have to actively scroll past the junk artificially at the top (just like scrolling past the Promoted ads on Google) to get to more organic responses. Or actively block all the blue checkmark trolls conveniently gathered together at the top, to weed your feed out. For those who favor the junk food news, the algorithm learns what they like and feeds them more, edging out any competing real news - as far as they are concerned it doesn't exist, because they never see it.
