The Texas House impeached Paxton. On to the state Senate. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been impeached. Here’s why.
In the eight years since he was indicted on charges of securities fraud, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has overcome a mountain of legal troubles and accusations of wrongdoing while becoming a Republican official entrenched in the party’s culture wars who has the support of former president Donald Trump. On Saturday, his luck changed. The Texas House voted 121-23 to impeach Paxton Saturday afternoon. He now faces a trial in the Texas Senate. After Paxton called on Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) to resign this week over alleged drunkenness — after what a TV station said was “the end of a 14-hour day” at the House — the Republican-led General Investigating Committee notified Paxton that it had been investigating him for months, and it unanimously recommended that the attorney general be impeached and removed from office. Alleged bribery, obstruction of justice and abuse of public trust were among the items of alleged behavior cited by Texas Republicans in the articles of impeachment that lawmakers presented Saturday. Paxton, who decried the impeachment vote as “political theater” and asked supporters to protest at the Capitol in Austin, said Friday night that he was “pretty pleased” with how his office has operated, and he did not apologize for the behavior cited by his Republican colleagues. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) has called the impeachment proceedings “a travesty,” while Trump defended Paxton on Truth Social before the vote and threatened to “fight” House Republicans if they impeached his ally: “Free Ken Paxton.” So how did Paxton get here and why is his case the first impeachment hearing of a state official in the Texas House in nearly 50 years? Here’s what we know: Rest of article here: Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has been impeached. Here’s why.

Now this is shocking: Republicans doing something right for a change. Texas Sen. Angela Paxton barred from voting in husband's impeachment trialAUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas state Sen. Angela Paxton, the wife of Attorney General Ken Paxton, is barred from voting in the impeachment trial that could lead to her husband's permanent removal from office, the Republican-controlled Senate decided Wednesday. The rule settles a question that has loomed over the Texas Capitol since Ken Paxton last month became just the third sitting official to be impeached in Texas' nearly 200-year history. Angela Paxton, a Republican, has previously not said whether she would recuse herself from voting in the trial where her husband of more than 30 years will face charges that include abuse of power and accepting bribes. The trial is scheduled to begin Sept. 5. Under the rules, Angela Paxton is required to attend the proceedings but is prohibited from participating in any way, including closed session or deliberations. The rules do not explicitly mention Angela Paxton but say a spouse is “considered to have a conflict” under the Texas Constitution. Rest of article here: Texas Sen. Angela Paxton barred from voting in husband's impeachment trial

he's toast. his wife was his last chance, imo.
edit: in case anyone wants to question me on this, i am NOT talking about her vote. i am talking about them giving her free range on the floor. this vote speaks volumes about how they plan to proceed: by the book. and by the book, Paxton loses. it is ONLY by the persistent lobbying of his supporters, particularly the ones that hold some sway in the chamber, that he survives. this indicates that the majority is not in the mood for that.
