I have too many tabs open, but I wanted to share this before doing more hard stuff. Its interesting to me that whoever owns the rights to Marvin Gaye's music went to trial w Sheeran. Marvin Gaye died in 1984. His father shot and killed him. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Marvin_GayeAt approximately 12:30 p.m. (PST; 20:30 UTC)[20] on April 1, 1984, an impatient Marvin Sr. shouted at his wife about the document.[17] Gaye, dressed in a maroon robe, shouted back downstairs, telling his father if he had something to say, he should do it in person.[21] According to Alberta, when Marvin Sr. refused his son's request, Gaye warned him not to come to his room.[22] Marvin Sr., however, instead charged upstairs to the bedroom to verbally attack Alberta over the document, causing Gaye to jump out of his bed and once again order his father out of the room.[21] When ordering did not work, Gaye, enraged, reportedly shoved his father out of the room into the hallway[21] then began kicking and punching him. Alberta later told Ritz: "Marvin hit him. I shouted for him to stop, but he paid no attention to me. He gave my husband some hard kicks."[21] Jeanne later recalled that it was understood in the family that if one of the children ever dared to strike their father that he would "murder him or her", saying her father "made it very clear" and "said so publicly on more than one occasion."[21] Gaye reportedly followed his father to the bedroom and, according to his mother, continued to kick him brutally.[21][22][23] Eventually, Alberta separated Gaye from his father and returned him to his bedroom.[21][22] Minutes later, at 12:38 p.m. (PST; 20:38 UTC), Marvin Sr. entered his bedroom, returning with the .38 pistol his son had bought him, pointed it at Gaye and shot him directly in the heart, as Alberta later explained to police: I was standing about eight feet away from Marvin, when my husband came to the door of the bedroom with his pistol. My husband didn't say anything, he just pointed the gun at Marvin. I screamed but it was very quick. He, my husband, shot – and Marvin screamed. I tried to run. Marvin slid down to the floor after the first shot.[22][23] The first shot, which proved to be fatal, entered the right side of Gaye's chest, perforating his right lung, heart, diaphragm, liver, stomach, and left kidney before coming to rest against his left flank.[22] Marvin Sr. stepped closer after the first shot and shot him a second time at point-blank range.[21][22]Gun rights were useful then too.

I remember that day even though I was a teenager at the time. At first, people (me included) thought it was maybe some kind of sick April Fool’s joke. But unfortunately it was true.
I have always loved Marvin Gaye’s music and have several of his CD’s from back when CD’s were a thing.
I’m not sure what his death has to do with the lawsuit against Sheeran though. I think that case was about his song “Thinking Out Loud”, no? I love that song, but I haven’t heard it lately to see if it does sound like one of Marvin Gaye’s songs to me. I like old music enough that I can often hear it when artists use old songs for their music, like when Robin Thicke got sued over his song. Mister is the musician, but he was surprised when I pointed out to him that the music in an Alicia Keys song sounded like Purple Rain by Prince. He couldn’t NOT hear it after I mentioned it to him lol.
OAN, there is a new artist named October London that sounds just like Marvin Gaye on some songs. I am a fan.

Copyrights sometimes die with the artist. Some creative work lasts longer. That said, on the news whoever lost the trial, said something about he just wanted (Marvin Gaye) to get credit. That's BS. Whoever owns the rights to the song was looking for additional money to come his way. Gaye has been dead over 35 years and so are his parents. This was a give me money trial, and Sheeran knew it. He said he would stop performing altogether if he lost. Most movies and commercials use covers of various songs so they don't have to pay the original artist. The length of a song you can freely sample is super low. Seconds. Not minutes, So unless you want to be sued and cough up even more $$ than what you originaly did not want to pay its find another song or even hire unknowns to sing your version of it.

Ed Sheeran has won his case.
I think its a great shame that talented people are hounded for their hard earned money
There are only a limited number of notes ..... and a set standard of chords that people use for different types of music.
If you think of all the songs that have ever been written there are bound to be some similarities for some of them
but where there is money and greed..... there is a claim.
Leave him alone, he has had a difficult year with his young wife's cancer
He is a bright young star who needs to reconnect with his fans and get back to the music he does best.
