Is anyone concerned that an unknown caller could capture your voice and turn it into a scam? I am. I had calls on my land line years ago that I was sure they were capturing my answer, yes, am I speaking with _____. I am even more wary now that they are using the "help I'm in trouble" scam with the person's captured voice. I know, don't answer. A very unnerving one. I was in line at a coffee shop. A woman walked up, introduced herself as manager of a gym close by and invited me over. While she was talking, her hand was moving up and down my body not touching. I asked her if she was recording me. There was no answer from her. I just said no thanks went and sat down so I could see her. Her body language was looking up at the ceiling then down like saying I can't believe this.

I've been told never to use the word "yes" when talking with someone you don't know. If they ask, "is this Busymom", instead of "yes", I say "speaking". (I sound SO MUCH like my Mom, LOL!)

I say who is asking. But this is why I don't play with scam callers. Safer just to hang up the minute you realize it is a scam call IMO.

Was this your experience? I think some scammers are now using scanners to detect your phone if it is on, and intercept whatever it is broadcasting out. This is not entirely new as thieves have been using scanners to intercept when you use your key fob in order to break into your car later. If you are concerned; immediately turn your phone off and walk away. Also you can go to a clerk or whoever is in charge and try to get on camera so the scammer will have to be on camera and be exposed if they really want to target just you. For most scammers it is a numbers game, so if it looks like they will be recorded and/or you report to mgmt some creepy person is doing Z, they will leave or move on.

Opt4CoolCars - Thanks. Yes this was my experience. With my cell phone, things are better. I'm careful who gets the number.
Another strange issue. We were at the restaurant where my GrD worked as a waitress but she wasn't working that day. Her supervisor was following me with his hand in his pocket. I had my RFID aluminum foil on my small CC purse. She had introduced us to him while checking out. His following me was overly off. I told her when we were outside.
Here is an article on the scam.

They wouldn't have to get voice snippets via phone calls. Social media like TikTok where kids post themselves. Plus even if your kid's presence is locked down, they could be on family or friend's not well protected social media.
