I think Musk is a smarmy jerk, but in their defense, this did not blow up on its own, the rocket launched successfully but went off course and that triggered its self destruction mechanism so it wouldn’t slam back down to earth, since best case it might slam into the ocean, worst case it might land on an elementary school.
So from a strictly scientific basis, they learned their steering program needs work and they’re learned their self destruction mechanism does work, so that’s something.
Very expensive lesson, for sure, but if you want to play with rockets, get out your wallet.
