Wish you would post more often Zib. Have really missed you! How many volunteers are you coordinating now? A little less than 400 plus the summer high school students are coming in.

Much better. I sold my house and moved to an over 55 building so it’s quiet which I like. I’m going to Scotland and England in August. I’m president of the volunteers at the hospital and very busy with that. I’ve been venturing into the dating scene. So far-yuck. Very clear why these men are single. My son got married and I gave them a reception. Her mother did absolutely nothing, didn’t even show up. I thought my mother sucked but her mother wins the prize for being a pos. My daughter is still busy but not swamped now that covid has calmed down. She’s making more money than most doctors so she’s not about to go to medical school and take a pay cut or lose her income. I converted to Judaism so I can be buried with my late husband. We’ve had a long and marvelous spring which I’ll try to remember when summer comes. Whew! That’s a lot. remind me what kind of work does your daughter do? interested in careers lately as DD14 is talking about them. Physician Assistant

Wish you would post more often Zib. Have really missed you! Thank you. I found I was getting depressed and angry when I was involved too much. But I’m smarter about it now. I'm glad to see you here again. And I understand the feelings you experienced here as well.

My daughter did say that four years of med school would have been easier. PA school crams four years into two and a half. She likened it to an experience of a fire hose in the face. It’s very intensive so if you have a child that thrives on stress, it’s perfect. It fit her to a tee because I swear she’s just a driven kind of person.

If you have a dream, go for it, you're young enough to try it & if you fail you have plenty of time for a course correction. You're in your 20s, you don't have to think like you're in your 30s, yet.

My opinion is if you are not dead you still can go for some dreams. There was a book I told my mom about that I had found in the library. It was basically people between the ages of 70 and death that had some significant achievements. One was a female scientist who either got a Nobel prize or similar around the age of 94. 94! If you aren't dead yet, there still might be time, especially if your dreams include acting, writing, etc.

You will have to be more circumspect about what and how you do things with growing responsibilities but never stop dreaming

Then you add in the under 18’s which is like herding cats. I’ve gotten pretty good at figuring out who is going to work out so that helps a lot. College students are usually pretty good but they go home in the summer and the high schoolers start. I have finally convinced the powers that be to simply deactivate not cancel them so we don’t have to background check and have them go through the application process all over again.

It's always good to have dreams, but if your dream is not in a field you've always worked in, it's important to have a day job. Pursue your dream in your off hours.

I just wanted to add that you don't stop having dreams just because your kids are grown. Keep chasing those dreams!

Learn how to calculate your income taxes.
20-something me had no idea how taxes were calculated. Nobody explained deductions and tax brackets to me until I was 28 and taking an accounting class on federal income taxes.
My dad was a CPA, my mother had majored in math. I had scored in the high 700s on the math portion of the SAT. You'd think that somewhere along that journey someone would have presented a "figure out the federal income tax" algebra question. Nope. That never happened. I don't think that I am alone here either. I suspect that the constant indexing discourages anyone from attempting to teach this very basic stuff. I have every reason to believe that this situation has not improved.
On Jeopardy this week they had a question about the most commonly used income tax return form, where the answer was Form 1040 and nobody knew the answer. One answered W2 and another answered W4. I started screaming 10 F'n 40 at the TV. When I was younger my mother did all our family's taxes. All I did was sign the form & send it in. One year when I was living hundreds of miles away, I got tired of waiting for her to mail me my taxes & the following year I went to H&R Block. After doing that 1 year I learned how to do my taxes myself & I've done them ever since. The one thing I don't like about e-filing is it used to be easier to just fill out the forms, staple my income statements to them and mail them in. Now it's more work to type in the data. I pay a small fee to import the previous year's data to make it easier, but I miss the old days when I just could write everything in in a short period of time. I do my taxes manually before filling out the E forms so that if I make a typing mistake, I can catch it. I'm not very good at typing, so I feel more comfortable making sure I know the numbers before I begin typing.

Shook my head that they didn't know the answer!

If you need your teeth straightened, get braces. Invest in low cost mutual funds immediately. Get your education out of the way. Get rid of toxic people.
