they are counting on the shield law. Hmm? Shield laws are statutes that provide journalists either an absolute or qualified privilege to refuse to disclose sources used or information obtained in the course of news gathering. link Perhaps Qualified immunity is a court-created rule that limits victims of police violence and misconduct from holding officers accountable when they violate a person’s constitutional rights. link

I don't understand how any of them can think that they would possibly get away with this. They stopped him for a traffic violation. Instead of ticketing him they tried to arrest and taze him. They were on camera beating the crap out of this man and failing to render aid. This is the epitome of police brutality.

I hope I don’t get in trouble for reviving this thread. I thought this was pertinent enough to this thread and not major enough to start a whole new one.
I just wanted to share that there was a sunset gathering this evening to acknowledge that Tyre Nichols’ photography has been put on display on the riverfront in downtown Memphis. If I’d known about it ahead of time, I would’ve planned to go. I only learned about it after the fact, a few minutes ago, from a FB post by a local community activist that I follow, who attended.
I went to the website where Mr. Nichols had uploaded his photos when I learned about it after he died. I’m not an expert, but I think he had a talent that could’ve been nurtured and become great if he’d lived longer. As it was, it still meant something to me to have enough respect for him to look at the photos he’d taken that obviously meant something to him, and see things I’ve seen before, through his eyes.
I am glad that he has not been forgotten, that people still care about who he was and celebrate the things that were important to him, and that people still want justice for what happened to him.
