Hi Kids! Without going into details, I recently had to start seeing a new medical specialist. I got my first billing, and they are billing me separately for the doctor bill, and the room that I was seen at. So, for one office visit I'm getting 2 different bills. This was NOT at the hospital, it was a medical building close to the hospital, but they claim this is standard practice for seeing some specialists now. I've seen separate billings for different stuff on hospital bills, when you're actually getting on-site services at the hospital, but never for an office visit outside of the hospital. Is this separate-style of billing new, or have I just not seen enough specialists in my lifetime to get price gouged? (My insurance will NOT cover the separate room cost--it's only counting towards my deductible, so I'll have to pay.) Yea me!

Were you notified of the separate billing before you saw this provider? It seems like that could conceivably fall under the no surprises billing act.

In fact, the scheduler wouldn't even tell me what type of specialist they were sending me to. I got an apology from the NP for that, but I was NOT a happy camper. Nothing like getting some testing done, and everyone leaving you in the dark until you speak in person to the NP or doctor.

When I was seeing the anesthesiologist pain specialist for Botox for migraines, I got hit with a doctor bill and a facility bill. The whole thing was pretty much a racket I thought. She gave me the Botox upstairs in her office for years. Then I was forced to go downstairs to the procedure room and hence the facility charge.
Generally there's nothing you can do about it. I have found around here it is disclosed up front.
The bigger problem to me in this situation is they should tell you where you are going. I'm not sure no surprise would cover this. I mean they didn't even tell you where you were going so you could check insurance coverage.
