I love the iPad. It is unfortunate that jobs are being lost, but that is the nature of technology. It's not as though Apple doesn't employ plenty of people, either. I'm sure plenty of buggy-makers were put out of business a century ago for the same reason.

How many farmers were put out of work when the farm equipment like combines, plows and harvesters were invented. Telegraph operators are no longer in demand, ongoing education is needed in the working population the last few hundred years.

Lets bring back horse and buggies so the blacksmiths can have their jobs back.
If we want to talk about job killing, the left has killed the coal and oil industries within these borders and stalled on developing any type of nuclear energy. Wonder how many jobs that could be there for people.

But both the R's and D's are equally responsible for helping to ship jobs out of this country. When I graduated high school in 1980, I could not find a boom box that cost less than $100.00. But it was probably made in the USA. Now you can buy one for under $30.00 - but how many Americans today can afford to buy a home? IMHO, the only way to bring jobs back into this country is to get rid of the current tax code and put a tariff on all imports. Who cares if it starts a trade war. It may hurt in the beginning, but in the end if we can bring manufacturing back onto our shores, then it will be worth it. The company that manufactures the IPad, Foxconn, is not one of the most sterling players out there. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxconn

Change is inevitable--no reason to live in the past. I think the IPAD is great, but I don't own one yet--still too expensive

Kerosene lamps, buggy whips (and buggies for that matter), the horse as a draft animal, the conversion from coal to oil as our transportation energy fuel. All of these resulted in changes in society.

Happy new ipad owner here. Technology has always displaced certain occupations. There is a huge demand for ipad apps - the person who can develop those apps won't be out of a job....

I can't believe a Representative could say something that ridiculous on the floor of the House. Embarassing.

I'm not sure what the problem is. It's called competition. Some companies put others out of business because they came up with a better product. It's how society moves forward.
I guess we should never develop new or better products because the current ones provide jobs?
