At one time, I worked for Rite Aid.  I was a manager of 3 different stores....until it was just way too much for the amount of pay I was getting.  When someone didn't show up...guess who had to do their jobs plus their own job!

I noticed the other day that Target had half their pharmacy section shelves locked up. I couldn’t get to the Bayer low dosage aspirin. I wasn’t going to wait around for an employee to unlock it so went without. Got it the next day at BJ’s.

Yeah, I rarely shop there now, anyway. The prices are too high.
If I had to have someone shop with me, to open the cases, I just wouldn't shop there. Ever.

Seems like a not well thought out plan, to me.

We may have to go back to the old days, where everything is behind the counter, and an employee gets you whatever you need.  It's sad that so many think shoplifting isn't a big deal.

I understand shoplifting causes a lot of losses for companies and that those losses result in higher prices for all of us. I also understand people have limited time and are trying to shop as quickly as possible. Most stores I go in these days are not fully staffed. They don't have nearly enough employees to get stuff if everything is locked up. I'm not waiting around for 10 minutes for someone to find the keys and come unlock something if I can just buy it at another store. That's not dismissing shoplifting as a problem that's being realistic about time constraints.

I think its mostly the shoplifting gangs and people who steal knowing store policy allows them to just walk out with the merchandise. If they can be identified on camera, they usually are prosecuted, but sadly its easy to beat many camera systems by clothing and knowing where to look and not look.

Then they sell this stuff off the grid or on a website as cheap name-brand OTC stuff. With the extreme rent increases, food prices, etc. I think more people have turned to retail crime in certain areas.

I've noticed CVS and Walgreens are locking up more items.  It's a nuisance to have to find someone to come to the allergy aisle, etc., when they never have enough people working.

Honestly, if it is not something I have to have in the moment, I am ordering online and having it delivered to my door. My time is valuable, and most places around here are short-staffed as it is.

And we lost Rite-Aids around here a long time ago.
