My computer is sending me stuff wanting an update to Windows 11 from Windows 10. Good, Bad or Ugly? Has anyone done this yet and what happened? Potential issues with Quicken, Word, Excel, other programs? I think 10 is still supported but I don't want to get too far out on upgrading. Need YM smart peeps input, please.

I don’t upgrade unless no other way I still remember Vista - can’t believe company didn’t go out of business after that disaster

Windows 11 came on my current computer. All of my programs have worked.
I have another computer with 10 on it. I haven't used it for a while, but I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade to 11.
I never did use Vista. My niece said it was "haunted"

I've been toying with the same decision. I know I need to do the upgrade; it's a question of timing. I need to upgrade so that I can stay up with the latest versions of applications I use, including the Office suite, Adobe inDesign and related software, Scrivener, etc.
I have observed the results when DH got a laptop preloaded with 11. He hasn't had any issues, so I'm good.
Windows 10 is still supported and will be for a while to come, but the ancillary software will increasingly show enhancements based ono 11.

Okay, I'm probably going to do the upgrade soon so y'all can expect to see/hear me howling here if my Office and other stuff doesn't work. If Quicken gets funky, it's the end of the world because my whole financial life is in there. Thanks YM'ers!

My work computer is Windows 11 Pro. No issues that I have noticed, but at work I have an IT person (he responds IF he feels like it) to fix any issues.
I think I may have upgraded my laptop to Windows 11, I will have to check when I get home.

I upgraded my personal laptop to 11 a few months ago. Then found out that the applications were grouped in the task bar. For example, if I have 3 excel spreadsheets open, it would show up as one excel icon and I would have to click that to get to the 3 open ones and then click on the one I want. I do not like the grouping. There is no way to un-group. In 10 we can choose to group or not. There was some other issue too and so I went back to 10 and I will stay on 10 until I HAVE to move to 11.

I upgraded both my old and laptops and my husband's machine with no issues. I like it, though it is different, visually. It takes a bit of getting used to.
Annie7, you shouldn't actually have to click on excel to select the one spreadsheet you want. Just hover your mouse pointer over the excel icon and you get a preview of the different spreadsheets you have open. Then you can simply select the one you want. But, if you really desire them to be un-grouped, there are several 3rd-party apps, both paid and free, that can do it. nerdschalk.com/how-to-ungroup-icons-on-windows-11-taskbar-with-a-registry-hack/

Just switched. Yesterday Windows 10 started darkening my screen for no reason while the computer was inactive. The second time it was so dark I could barely see to get the Controls up and brighten it again. The solutions on Google told me to reset a button I couldn't find (automatic screen brightening on/off) so I took a deep breath and installed Windows 11. Have been on it only an hour and just the Internet and Excel but so far, so good.

The computers at the library started warning me last week that they were going to switch to 11, but only some of them. I really don't understand the randomness of which ones are scheduled for updates, and which are delayed (all bought and installed the same day, except for Director's laptop). I've opted out of installing 11 on the ones that have tried, because our circ SW isn't compatible, and the public PCs have security SW on them that's specific to 10. I have to keep my eye on the last 3 public PCs until they throw the notice, too.
Director told me her laptop got upgraded to 11 the other day when she wasn't looking. She'd been hitting "not now", but guess she ran out of delays. I take care of all updates on the other equipment, but don't touch hers - I wish she'd told me earlier, I could have shown her where to go in the settings/updates panel to opt out. Still, not a bad idea for us to get more familiar with 11's differences and quirks for when we need to help patrons who have 11 on their devices.

I was waiting for some items to be laminated. One can not sit down in front of a PC without clicking somewhere!! I noticed a few things different and realized that it was updated to Win 11. I wasn't there long enough to really check out stuff.

OK, I take it back. Computer worked just fine this morning after Windows upgrade last night. This afternoon I tried to start it out of Sleep mode. Got the manufactrer's logo and then- black screen and a short tune and-nothing. Got on Google on my phone and determined it WAS a Windows problem. First I had to reboot 3 times to get the necessary menu and poke through some screens that would allow me to restore it to the last working settings. Except it needed a recovery code. I never remembered having one but it's on the computer somewhere. Well, THAT's helpful. Got on DH's ancient desktop and recovered the code from the Microsoft site, all 48 characters, because I didn't want lose the instructions I had up on my phone. Yes, it did work, thank heaven, and the first thing I did is my monthly backup, which I hadn't done yet. I keep thinking maybe I ought to get rid of that desktop. Maybe not. Right after church tomorrow I'm headed to Des Moines. From there the girls and I are going to Chicago for 2 days. I need to be back here for an in-person Diocesan Council meeting next Saturday and a vestry meeting after church Sunday AM. I need my computer for most of that, of course. And I'm not packed yet. If yo haven't updated to Windows 11 you may want to give them some time to work out the "features".

Okay, I think I'm going to ignore the little update things for a bit longer until they work through the bugs. I absolutely can't afford to be unable to access financial stuff. @athena53 thank you for letting us know.

My laptop sleeps when the lid is closed as well, but I've never had issues with it not waking up. But, my laptop is pretty new. Not sure how old your is, Athena, but it makes me wonder if it's more hardware based than software.

I've had a similar issue a few times now on my laptop, @athena53. I've also had to go to find the bitlocker code and enter it. I used my phone to access the code on my microsoft account. Each time was under Windows 10, so I don't think the upgrade is the source of the problem. I just upgraded to 11 yesterday and so far so good. Each ancillary app is working as it should, plus Chrome. I lost no data or images. Phew. The only off-putting thing to me is how easily and quickly it worked. I had supposed it would take a couple of hours, but it was more like 20 minutes after I confirmed a good backup.

I have a smaller laptop that's now 8 years old tat I may bring with me as a backup and my mission-critical files are backed up.
