I don’t want to keep cluttering the thread I post the most in, with talk about my dogs, so I decided to make a thread for that.
If it’s inappropriate, I have no issue with the mods here correcting me and/or deleting the thread.
I have Newbie, who is around 2yo, we don’t know her exact age. We took her in to keep her from going to the animal shelter. Besides being cuddly, she is very obedient and easy to train.
Now we also have Boy. He’s 8 weeks old now. He was 6 weeks old when we got him. He does puppy type stuff and is more than a handful, but he is starting to learn commands like stop it, when he’s terrorizing Newbie, leave it when he’s messing with something he shouldn’t, and I’m teaching him to sit on command.
I see a lot of adventures in my future with these 2. And I’d just like to talk about it somewhere where it won’t get on other poster’s nerves lol.

You can talk about dogs all you want. We've got 2. Speedy is one year old, but seemed to need a companion, so we have a little girl now too. On the positive side, Speedy is acting more mature, like a "good dog", at least most of the time, but our newest baby, Lola, is stubborn about potty training. Must be a trait in the breed. Speedy was just as stubborn when he was little.

@pinkcshmere - On Facebook I have been following a golden retriever named Tavi. His human types for him. Tavi is a golden retriever. Earlier this year, Tavi lost his collie and his lab in a very short period of time due to old age. His humans recently adopted an eight week old golden retriever for Tavi to 'raise' and 'train ' in dog stuff. The pup's name is Uhtey. Or as Tavi calls him 'My Uhtey'. Following Tavi raise Uhtey might give you and Newbie some tips in raising Boy. Tavi's Facebook link is Tavi TailsPicture of Tavi and Uhtey.

That makes me want to share this NAR story. Full story at link. notalwaysright.com/the-only-thing-better-than-a-husky-is-two-huskies/259349/My wife and I have had our husky puppy for almost two years. He’s a handful, loves to chew, and is an escape artist. When I say he loves to chew, that might be a bit of an understatement. He’s chewed up spindles on the stairwell, drywall by a couple of windows, three different couches, shoes, TV remotes, cell phones, and the list goes on.
He gets long walks and we play with him constantly, but he still just wants to chew. Finally, we can’t take it anymore. One of the suggestions we’ve heard is to get him a playmate. My wife spends a few days going over pet adoption websites, and she finds a shepherd/husky mix (at least that’s what the site classified the breed as), but she looks like any other husky that I’ve seen except for her saddle, which does look more like the colors of a German shepherd.
The adoption place is a five-hour drive from our house in a neighboring state. We leave early in the morning and arrive at the place around noon, and that’s when we get to meet the dog at the adoption place.
The whole while, we’ve had our husky in the car; we thought it would be best to let them meet and not just bring home a strange dog. my wife comes out with the dog in question, and there is an instant bond between the new dog and my husky. They run and jump and play immediately. We have a new dog that we are officially bringing home.
The change with our husky has been immediately noticed now that he has a playmate. He has stopped chewing on everything and stopped escaping from his kennel. These two huskies are best of friends until the end.

We do have a dog blog on this page, feel free to jump in anytime. However, I just wanted to say that your threads are never an intrusion, you bring a perspective that most do not have and I really appreciate the topics you bring up.

I would be interested in seeing pictures of your dog. I don't have any dogs now but I grew up with a bunch of Irish Wolfhounds. Pre pandemic I would travel out of state several times a year for work, and we like to take vacations and road trips in the summer, so I was hesitant to get one. In the mean time our friend passed away so we adopted his cat. Our cat is named Ray, but his official name is Crazy Ray, which was scarily accurate. We keep waiting for Ray to slow down, but we have had him for 5 years now and he is just as crazy as ever. Next week we are going to adopt our friend's barn cat, Patrick. He isn't working out as a barn cat because he won't run away from dogs or tractors, and it's causing problems with their dogs barking at him 24/7. He is getting neutered tomorrow and then we are going to take him next week after he has some recovery time. We are hoping that having a companion will make Ray a little less rambunctious, since most of his activity seems to be designed to get our attention.

I'm very curious if Ray will settle down or if you'll end up with 2 rambunctious cats running through your home.

Boy had worms when we first got him. He goes for his second round of dewormer today. soupandstew told me his activity level would indicate improvement. The last couple of days he has been running all over the place. I thought he was a busybody at first, but I hadn’t seen nothin’ yet! I guess it’s safe to say he’s feeling better. I don’t like having to get out of bed in the middle of the night to take him outside when he starts whining. But so far, it’s been good I did get up because where I put him down in the grass, he squats and pees, then finds a spot to poop.

Today's Tavi Tail:
Today I learned a new sound, and I was not especially fond of it. My Uhtey got his Pokey Thing* yesterday and the Nice Doctor Lady said he could adventure today - so fun!
Ohhhhh, the choices - we could take him to the beach and the Giant Water Bowl** and out to eat and to the toy store and the ice cream place and maybe a hotdog and how about the Island or the harbormaster get treats or... My mom laughed.
"That is too many looks to keep up with, Tavi. Besides, you might need to read the fine print."
Fine Print? That was a new noise completely - time for a Huh look.
"Fine print," my dad said. "He can only walk for 10 minutes at a time, and we have to be careful where we put him down - nowhere with lots of other dogs yet. And for now, no ice cream and no hotdogs - not until he's older "
That was a ridiculous number of rules rolled up into one Fine Print sound, and I thought about pouting, but before I could, we hopped into Goforaride***. Bad Guy Leash was waiting when we got out, but my Uhtey did not mind one bit. He was so happy for all the things he could do, he did not even think about Fine Print. He followed me, snufflesniffing everywhere, smiling for the Clicky Thing****, so very curious when I waded out into the Fast Water*****.
After his walking time, he settled happily in his Ride******, and we went to eat. My mom gave us our regular lunch, and even though all sorts of lovely food smells were floating about, Uhtey gobbled up his meal with a smile, and stretched out for a nap.
That is when I realized my Uhtey taught me something. If you have Fine Print, you can still have a most wonderful adventure - just enjoy all the things you can do, and waste no seconds at all thinking about the things you cannot. Love, Tavi

We just got home from the vet. Mister had Newbie’s leash, I had Boy in my arms. Newbie pooped on those nice folks’ Welcome mat! Mister was mortified. LOL! It was funny because he was SO embarrassed. $540 later….. Boy still has roundworms, which was not unexpected. He got another round of dewormer and a couple more vaccines. He has to go back in 3 weeks. Newbie got her annual exam and vaccinations. She has allergies, which we already kinda knew. She has pink and red spots on her underside and the bottom of her paws. A few of them are crusty looking, so she has to take steroids and antibiotics. She got another 6 month supply of Heartguard and flea and tick stuff. She does not have worms. Boy got samples of Heartguard and the flea and tick stuff. That’s a lot, but I was still shocked at the cost. Everything I’ve read says that at Boy’s age it is very, very important to socialize him. Idk how I’m supposed to do that though when I can’t even talk him for a walk yet because he hasn’t had all his shots. The lady assisting the vet told Newbie she was giving her an award for the easiest dog of the day since she didn’t have to wrestle with her. I was proud of how well behaved she was. We’re just going to ignore how she left that package at the front door, mmmkay?

I forgot to say that the vet said Newbie IS overweight. He asked if she gets a lot of treats, and guess who looked shamefaced! Not me lol. I’d been wondering why her treats seem to disappear so fast. Now I know lol. He said she just looks so pitiful when she wants a treat, that he can’t resist, but he’ll stop. He really is a sucker for these dogs lol. I don’t even know what pitiful look he was referring to, I guess she knows she can mesmerize him with those spooky eyes. He also asked if we feed her off our plates. Not me, but SOMEBODY and their family regularly throw their dogs food off their plate. I’ve never done that with any of my dogs because I don’t like for dogs to beg when I’m eating. So he explained that it’s okay for Mister to boil chicken breasts and use it as a topper with their meals, but other things are not good for dogs and here’s why. I’m glad I made the appointment at a time when Mister could go with me, if only because he heard it from the vet himself about those bad habits, instead of me saying it and him not taking me seriously.

I liked your post because Boy has doubled in weight. I get it. Hopefully, once ALL the worms are gone, he’ll really start picking up weight. He has one more visit for dewormer, in 3 weeks. I hope that’s the end of the darn worms after that!

GOOOOOD GRIEF!
I took my rambling about my dogs out of one thread, trying to be respectful, and it’s still a problem because I didn’t realize there was already a dog blog and made my own thread.
ETA: I will respect whatever the mods decide on, but if you don’t want to read my rambling about my dogs, just keep scrolling to another thread. Please and thank you.

I guess we know who is hypnotized by the spooky eyes now! My memory could be shot but wasn't Newbie skinny when Mister brought her home? Maybe he felt bad then and gave her all the treats.
