What the heck is dressy casual attire?
I understand shorts and sandals are not appropriate. But for a man, what would be dressy casual? Venue is indoors. Temps will be in the low 90s. I plan on wearing a solid color short-sleeved shirt with black slacks and black loafers.
Is that enough?

I think you're good with your planned attire. Of course, as a man, you could pretty much wear anything at all as long as you wear something and it would be good. A loin cloth? Sure. Fully padded-out football gear? Absolutely. A golf shirt, khakis and cleats? Why not.
I find the wording interesting. The couple in question may have been stung by simply stating casual in the past, and had guests wandering around in pajamas or swimsuits or cut-off jeans shorts with strategic tears at the butt cheeks. Better be safe.

Why not just call it Business Casual? Seems like the same thing.

When I hear dressy casual I think polo and jeans. They probably don't want thongs, flip flops and sleeveless t-shirts with a big slit down the sides. That would be red neck casual...

Is that enough?FWIW, I think you "nailed it" also.
If you still have doubts though, consider putting a loosely folded tie in your pants' pocket until you can check out what the rest of the men are wearing. You'll have it with you if you decide that looks better or can toss it back in your car if not needed.
Either way, have a great time!

Thanks. It's the groom's second marriage and a bit bittersweat. His wife of 30 plus years died of cancer four years ago. Her husband, her sister and I took care of her through her four bouts with cancer. His wife wanted to make sure her husband was not alone for the rest of his life and encouraged him to seek a mate in the future. And he has.

I plan on wearing a solid color short-sleeved shirt with black slacks and black loafers. Is that enough? I think you are good to go. I would translate "dressy casual attire" to be business casual - so no shorts, sandals/flipflops/crocs, no t-shirts with an image/saying on them, no jeans. No tie required - unless you routinely wear one (I have a nephew who always wears a bow tie - themed to the occasion - it's his "signature" thing. No baseball hats - but if you routinely wear a non-baseball hat hat- your "for special dress" occassions hat may be appropriate. I have a sibling who his every day hats and then the hat that goes with his "occasion" cloths. He does remove the hat while indoors - but he's always got a "signature" hat with him. I am all for wearing black year round (I am a goth girl at heart)... I am sure you will be fine! The dressy casual doesn't necessarily limit you to black - if that is what you were thinking. You could also go with khaki pants and solid short sleeved shirt and appropriate shoes. or blue or gray or some shade of Khaki (I've seen anything from nearly white to greenish to brown ) slacks. As long everything goes together - shirt, belt, pants, socks (if wearing them) and shoes - you are good to go. I've witnessed my 30 something nephews wear all sorts of color combinations of "not black" pants (blue, grey, some shade of Khaki, black) and shirts (white, jewel tone solid colors, pastels,) with shoes (always a shoe) for spring/summer/fall weddings and dressy events. None wore a tie and their attire didn't say "I need a tie but didn't wear one". I believe most of the slacks/pants were not "suit pants". And they all looked very dashing and handsome. Think about the celebrities/CEOs who have a "uniform" that's not a suit and not jeans/sweatshirt - and that's generally dressy casual attire or business casual attire.

I like nidena's find. Its close to what I was thinking. I now work in a more conservative place so I would not call a polo and khakis dressy casual. The khaki's if they were a better than usual fabric yes but generally no unless you had a shirt or sweater to elevate the outfit. Unlike women, men generally can't put better shoes on and be seen just a tad dressier than wearing more casual shoes.
I'd definitely skip the tie though. Hope you have fun.

For that particular occasion I would encourage my hubs to go with a lighter pant - a linen or khaki. Also a button up - perhaps one that looks good untucked. I would look for one that has a subtle pattern instead of a plain shirt. But, that is just me.
