Every once in a while, I receive scam calls from a S.E. Asia criminal group pretending they are Amazon customer service employees notifying me someone is trying to use my Amazon account and attached credit card to purchase an Apple IPhone for some $900. I know it's a scam so I am not concerned with someone trying to buy an IPhone.
But my concern is the phone calls. On April 28 of this year, I received five calls from these scammers during a 90 minute period. Yesterday I received one call and today, I received 14 calls in a two hour period.
Now here is the Samsung cell phone problem. I would block their phone number if I could. But my cell phone needs an actual phone number to block. Instead of the phony Amazon calls showing a phone number, it shows 'Restricted' where the phone number would be.
I can manually enter a cell phone number into my phone and block it using the supplied number key pad provided in the phone. But I cannot enter a word to block.
When I get a call from an unknown caller I can look at the details of the call and an option I have is to block it. But the option to block is not available when I look at the details of the Amazon scammer calls because there is no number to block.
I can block all unknown callers with or without a phone number showing which would take care of the Amazon scam callers but not all unknown callers are scammers.
So can anyone suggest a way to get around the 'Restrictive' callers ID/no actual phone number and block them?
I hope the above is not too confusing. Any help appreciated.

Have you tried using any blocking apps? I'm not sure they would work either without a number showing up. You didn't answer any of them did you?
I hate scammers!

That is how I know who they are. I missed all the April calls asI was napping and I had turned down the volume. Same for yesterday as yesterday's call. They always call mid-afternoon. I'll check out blocking apps and see what might be available. Thanks.

Check with your cell phone provider, most include scam call blocking in their service. I send all unidentified callers to Voice mail. Anyone I expect to get a call from is added to my phone book. Dr., Dentist, pharmacy, hair salon, car dealers etc. most callers that are not in my phone book, are spam. Sometimes it is someone calling to confirm an Appt.

Maybe newer cell phones have more options. My cell phone is at least five years old.

I have mine set so unknown callers (those not in my list of contacts) go to voice mail.
I have not been able to figure out how to block calls without numbers on an iPhone.

I'm trying to figure out how to block texts that come in from a e-mail address(es). I set my dad up with an iphone, and he is getting a lot of "naughty" texts. Since they aren't coming from a phone number, I also can't figure out how to block them. Any unknown callers already go to voicemail. Any ideas?

I have these same problems and so far, have not been able to figure out a way around them.
For text messages that come from email addresses, I can block the notification, but not the text. I have found that to help.
I have a Samsung S8 phone, my service is through trac-phone. In the past, my SIM card was through Verizon. A few months ago, I had to get a new SIM card (don't know why- phone stopped working, until I did it.). The new SIM card is associated with t-mobile. Since then, I get MUCH less scam calls and texts! Instead, it shows "SCAM LIKELY" as the caller ID name.

I just don't answer the phone if it's a number I don't recognize. If it's important, they'll leave a message.

But I prefer that they just don't ring/interrupt me. And scam texts are the worst, because they generally send them to a lot of people at the same time, meaning that every time someone responds, you get another notification. It's SO annoying! Sometimes I have been able to find a phone number for them. When I do, I block the number so they can't call, or text me any more.

If I am not expecting calls, I put my phone on silent for extended periods. Yes, they will leave a message. I do let some calls bypass that.
I know have my phone set to go silent overnight. I only left it on to ring to receive calls about my parents. Any other calls I get them time of day are not going to be good news. They can wait until morning.

Does Samsung have an option to silence unknown/possible scam calls? It won't stop them, but at least you won't hear them.
Identifying them as scam calls so they can be stopped might be a function of your service provider rather than the phone.

Identifying them as scam calls so they can be stopped might be a function of your service provider rather than the phone. I have Verrizon as my provider. When a call comes in and Verrizon can see it has called a number of different numbers, the call is announced as 'Potential Spam'. I let these go to voicemail. I do check later to see if they left a message. If no message, I automatically block the number. My voicemail also says leave a message or your number will be blocked. No message? - blocked.

I love blocking numbers!
I have had my phone number for 13 years this month. The person who had the number before me had serious debt problems. He did not give a forwarding address or phone number to anyone, including his friends. I have gotten calls and texts from his friends in the middle of the night. Debt collector calls used to come on a regular basis. Every time I think no more debt collection calls can come, they do.
I got another one about a week ago. In the message, they said they knew it was Dwight's number because he gave it to them the day before. So he keeps giving it out. Thankfully, I am the only person to have this address so I don't get his mail.

I'm so bummed! (I think it holds 3,000 blocked numbers. Or maybe that's my cell phone. LOL 😁)

Those numbers were probably phony anyway. I have in the past deleted the first calls on my blocked list to give me room.

I have Verizon and a Galaxy S9 phone. I have blocked one particular number and I continually get texts from this person. My cousin hosted one of those jewelry parties and I bought something. The consultant got access to my information and texts at least weekly sometimes more. I can't get the texts to stop. She also sent me an email which I blocked. I got a postcard too at one point.
I'm inclined to think she must be using some sort of service to send the texts and that's why I can't get them blocked.

But I don't think my cordless landline shows numbers, or dates of the blocked numbers, which is why I struggled deleting them before. Maybe I'll just delete them all and start over. That's probably a good idea. Thanks for the suggestion!

I checked the Verizon instructions again and tried to block. It's definitely coming from some sort of service and is not a valid number. I got another text yesterday and I scrolled up through others I didn't delete and saw in the body of a text her actual number.
I hate those MLM style companies. It's always from those parties that I end up with spam texts.

I have a similar issue although its the address that is the issue although the sleazy collectors will still call my number that she never had. I think one or more of them are responsible for the increase in mail for her, gone more than 13 years, and I assume anyone who mails her now is not legit. You should start responding 'I guess X is not your friend because he's giving you his old number not his current one.'

I don't answer calls from numbers I don't know. I used to respond as you state to the texts and then block the number. What was really funny was when the guy kept asking why Dwight wasn't acknowledging his waving at him in the local mall. Well Dwight wasn't see the texts. I was.
I only know about the last one because a message was left. I did not return the call and blocked thande number. However, I receive calls one day a week that is one digit off and no message is being left.
