'Leave It To Beaver' actor Tony Dow dies at 77 after cancer battle: 'A beautiful soul'"Leave It To Beaver" actor Tony Dow, who played Wally Cleaver in the popular sitcom, died Tuesday at 77. Dow's manager Frank Bilotta confirmed in an email to USA TODAY Tuesday that the actor died of cancer. "It is with an extremely heavy heart that we share with you the passing of our beloved Tony this morning," said a statement from Bilotta and Renee James, Dow's management team, posted on Dow's Facebook page Tuesday. "Tony was a beautiful soul - kind, compassionate, funny and humble. It was truly a joy to just be around him. His gentle voice and unpretentious manner was immediately comforting and you could not help but love him," they added. "The world has lost an amazing human being, but we are all richer for the memories that he has left us. From the warm reminiscences of Wally Cleaver to those of us fortunate enough to know him personally - thank you Tony. And thank you for the reflections of a simpler time, the laughter, the friendship and for the feeling that you were a big brother to us all," the post said. The news comes less than three months after the actor and and his wife, Lauren Shulkind put out a joint statement sharing the "very sad news" of his cancer diagnosis, though they didn't disclose details of the disease. "Dear Friends & Fans of Tony Dow, I have some very sad news to share with you. Unfortunately, Tony has once again been diagnosed with cancer. He is approaching this reality so bravely, but it is truly heartbreaking," the joint statement read. Ok, I've been fooled before by different news outlets giving contradicting articles, so not positive yet if this is actually true or not, but MSN Homepage and several other sites that I googled are now saying Tony is alive and his death was announced in error.

Good catch. He is soon to be with June and Ward. 'Leave It to Beaver' actor Tony Dow still alive, in hospice care, despite statement announcing death According to TMZ, actor Tony Dow, best known for his role as Wally Cleaver on the iconic television show "Leave It to Beaver," is still alive, despite a statement announcing his death from his management team earlier Tuesday. TMZ reported that Dow's wife, Lauren, believed her husband was dead and told his manager, which led to the statement being posted to his official Facebook page. The post has since been deleted.
Dow, though, is under hospice care, and his son, Christopher, told Fox News that his father does not have much time left. "This is a difficult time," Christopher Dow said. "Yes he is still alive but in his last hours. Under hospice care." TMZ also reported earlier this year that Tony Dow had been diagnosed with cancer. Beyond "Leave It to Beaver," Tony Dow also directed episodes of series like "Harry and the Hendersons," "Coach" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." Thanks for double checking Tennesseer. After the "Bison Fiasco" some time back, I was a little leery about mentioning what I read.
Sorry though that the "updated news" isn't better.

Sorry though that the "updated news" isn't better. I would like to know why his wife thought he was dead.

I don't understand how his management team announced Tony's death.
I can see a headline from Fox News that his son says he has hours to live. I don't read Fox News so I don't know if that is true or not.

Sounds like they expect him to go soon. I wonder if they gave some releases to various places but asked them not run them yet. I would guess that works as well as post-dating checks.

Whoever runs his official facebook page, put it there. That's how the whole thing got started.

We must be close in age. I watched all of those shows, too. Beaver was my guy but Tony Dow played Wally so well. He will be missed.
