DD9 has run into a girl with this same limb difference a few times recently. The girl plays basketball. DD9 was at a camp with her and according to her, you don't want to catch many passes from her bc they are hard throws LOL. She has beautiful shot form too. Then, we played this same girl in softball. She pitched! Was one of the better pitchers we faced all year. She held the glove under her arm and then put it on quick as a blink after letting go of the ball. Crazy good. Imagine our group of 9 yo's watching this from the dugout and how many questions they have and how the talking starts. I circled them up, commented what a great athlete this pitcher was, and said we'd address any and all questions at the next practice. My male head coach gave me a nod. Next practice, I explained that I asked them to be quiet because while nothing I heard them say/start to ask was bad, the other team and this player couldn't know that. They would have only been able to tell that we were talking about her which isn't kind. I said they should think about how that might feel and consider it any time they had questions about a differently abled person. The questions aren't wrong, just be tactful about timing. Question session took 20 mins of our 80 min practice. Head coach said it was the best use of our time all season

WOW this brought back memories of Jim Abbott and also my son's Pediatrician. When my son was old enough to realize the "difference" he started to ask questions. Dr. welcomed the questions and was so good at giving answers that a toddler could understand. As a new and totally green mother I couldn't have asked for a better person to be in my son's early years!! Hopefully this young lady will inspire many others in the future.

Before I forget, Carson Pickett was featured on ABC Evening News last night.
