In related news, I am horrified that Boebert gets enough support from my "blue" state to stay. Everyone clinging to the idea that their states are safe from this ruling is kidding themselves.

I often wonder how many people actually support her and how many people are going with name recognition. Doesn't make it better, if anything it makes it worse because that means they did zero research into the candidates to even form an opinion outside of "Hey I know her!", but it's still something I think about. Then there are people like my grandfather who voted straight party line from the day he turned 18 until his death. You are born a Republican you die a Republican. I don't understand never evolving in your political stance as you grow older. I am becoming more straight a party ticket as well which I don't like. I feel compelled to as ever more vocal radicals seek to destroy our schools by giving all our tax dollars to religious schools and support Reynolds who stole our COVID 19 relief funds and used them to upgrade the computers in her office. They are trying to put cameras in classrooms so I can tattle if I think a teacher is teaching my kid CRT or reading anything I deem icky. There is a trigger heartbeat bill on the bench that has been waiting for the day Roe v Wade was repealed and there are zero exceptions for the mother even medically. I can't in good faith vote for those people. So I try to find, and they are few, as many D's and I's on the ballot as I can on both the state and local level. Sometimes there isn't a single D or I on the local level. I may not agree with democrats or the independent candidate on everything but there is way too much I disagree with the Republicans on to vote for them.

Dude do you not pay attention to ANYTHING going on in this country? I got mad at him during a previous argument about the subject and told him that the fact you can be totally oblivious to what is going on in the country is a display of your privilege. You deep down are aware that it is not your rights that are going to be threatened, yours are the rights that are being enshrined. So you can go about your daily life without a care in the world and wear "I don't pay attention to politics" like a badge of honor. I have no choice but to pay attention. I don't get to smugly sit on the sidelines and claim neutrality. How a parent, and a parent with young girls no less can have his head so far up his butt is beyond me. I will give DH that he is trying but damn sometimes he makes it hard not to fulfill that "man hater" accusation that gets thrown at me from time to time.

I ended up hanging up on him and texting AZ, of all people. I'm quoting my own text here - "do you see me as an equal? as an educated person that can make decisions about herself, for herself? some of the conversations I have had over the past week have been awful and I really just hate everyone right now." I'm feeling really defeated right now, which I know will pass. but I am very angry, and I'm not going to keep quiet about any of this anymore.

It said why it would skirt around HIPPA and definitely said a subpoena would not be subject to HIPPA so if someone reports the suspicion of an abortion, authorities could get ahold of your medical records. I am only working a half day and need to get something done this am. I probably won't have time to search for it today. Sorry.

I don’t have kids…..but I have 4 nieces who are just starting their reproductive life. Despite the fact that this ruling has no impact on me, I am cognizant enough that despite the fact that it doesn’t effect ME, it does others. I’m angry, disappointed, frustrated and feeling defeated. I asked TD what would be involved in him going back to Canada. That’s easiest for us, but there are issues there he doesn’t like. What’s going on is making the idea being expatriates a lot more attractive.

Report it and they get fired for breaking HIPAA laws. That pretty much assures that nothing will get reported. Otherwise, they’ll have to figure out a way of rescinding HIPAA.

I would not report it. Administration can do what they like, but I in no way doing any of that without a court order or a law making me a mandatory reporter like we are for child abuse. Make our representatives have to pass something that requires it. Then watch more healthcare professionals vote with their feet. Violating HIPAA is no joke, and I do not see it being repealed at a federal level.

Trust me I know. It's so easy living in Denver and seeing how we vote as a state to feel "safe" but when I was that regional manager role I drove all over the state. I'm in a densely blue populated area that so far beats out the spread out red portion of the state. Colorado Springs gets less comfortable, but the western slope is where I saw a lawn sign about Obama that is too offensive to even type. I never would have thought such things could happen in this era in my state. But they're not going anywhere, and again having more kids and passing on those ideals than the liberals.

Boulder is about as blue as they come and you know that.
Even the southern suburbs of Denver are pretty red and the Springs is ridiculous. A friend moved to Walden. He and his partner are the only 2 registered Democrats in the county.
I don't want much to do with my GQP relatives. They have some very strange ideas. I am not comfortable around them after seeing the stuff they post on FB.

He immediately got into it online and in person with some folks who didn't embrace his lifestyle or politics. I unfriended him because of his racist statements - yeah, he has "brown and black friends" but whines about Colorado's shortage of cheap migrant labor - so I don't know how it's going for him.

Many, many years ago I audited some of the migrant laborers around Longmont. It was a special project and we could work in the evenings. I went to one house and all of my cases lived there. It was a tiny little house. At least 20 men were living there. It was deplorable.
It was an interesting evening since I don't speak Spanish and only one of the guys spoke a little English. He interpreted for me and we got done what we had to do.
Those were actually good living conditions as it was a house with a roof. Many of the ranchers I audited had huts in the beet fields for their migrant workers. The entire family would be out picking the crops and I always figured those huts had no water.
Colorado is where I got my education on diversity and that not all people are white like me and don't think like me.
That was because of where I worked. I had co-workers doing jobs I had been told could not be done by women or Blacks. I get there and there are female, Black and Hispanic managers. How did that happen? Then I started to get to know my co-workers. They weren't scary like I had learned in lily white Iowa
That's where I learned about gays and lesbians and went to some bars with friends.
It's where I became who I am today and formed my world view.

At a nearby town the High School here actually has a prayer over the PA at their football games. I was shocked at first but since this is the bible belt i'm not all that surprised anymore.

Aren't they required to report things like gun shot wounds and child abuse? Maybe this falls into whatever category those mandatory reporting things do? I have never dealt with either gunshot wounds or child abuse, so maybe I am way off base here.

Yes, we are mandatory reporters of child abuse. We do have to report gunshot wounds. Unless they pass a law making us have to report this, you will violate HIPAA. I wonder how these representatives will feel when there teenage daughter has a miscarriage and it gets reported. You have to believe there will be at least 1 person working that day who would love to report it and have the newspapers pick up the cover up
ETA: If they pass a personhood law, I would assume a death certificate would need to be filed. They are public documents. Some groups could have all kinds of "fun" requesting these documents should that come to pass

They can rest comfortable that their money will shield them from the law just as it always has.

There are still the medical emergencies that cannot be dealt with in that manner. Can't hide completely. I also expect added scrutiny on these individuals as a result of these laws. Not much is private anymore

I had an appointment at my ob/gyn today and she said they had 27 calls on Monday alone to schedule tubal ligation. More vasectomies are being scheduled too. linkThomas Figueroa always knew he didn't want children. Growing up in Central Florida, he remembers his classmates getting pregnant as early as middle school and had considered getting a vasectomy for the past few years.
But after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade on Friday, he rushed to schedule one. He registered Monday for a vasectomy with Doug Stein, a Florida urologist known as the "Vasectomy King" for his advocacy of the procedure.
"It is something I put on the backburner of my mind until very recently, when the Supreme Court decision happened," said Figueroa, 27, who lives in Tampa. "That was basically the triggering factor right there. It pushed my mind to say: 'OK, I really do not want children. I'm going to get this vasectomy now.'"
Figueroa is not alone. Urologists told The Washington Post that they have seen a spike in requests for the procedure in response to the Supreme Court's decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
Stein said that before Friday, he received four or five vasectomy requests a day. Since the court's decision was announced, that number has spiked to 12 to 18 requests per day.
"It was very, very noticeable Friday, and then the number that came in over the weekend was huge and the number that is still coming in far exceeds what we have experienced in the past," Stein told The Post. "Many of the guys are saying that they have been thinking about a vasectomy for a while, and the Roe v. Wade decision was just that final factor that tipped them over the edge and made them submit the online registration."

Me too. I read yesterday that hospital employees were notified that if there were any signs a patient had undergone an abortion they were supposed to report it. It said why it would skirt around HIPPA and definitely said a subpoena would not be subject to HIPPA so if someone reports the suspicion of an abortion, authorities could get ahold of your medical records. I am only working a half day and need to get something done this am. I probably won't have time to search for it today. Sorry. I wonder how this would be? This pretty much puts any HCP into a pickle. Report it and they get fired for breaking HIPAA laws. That pretty much assures that nothing will get reported. Otherwise, they’ll have to figure out a way of rescinding HIPAA. I wish I could find the article. They said it would not violate Hippa for some reason, and what they said was the employee reports the suspicion, they they can subpoena your medical records, possible get access to your phone/computer searches and e-mails/text messages and then you could end up being charged with murder. I was looking at my Facebook account this am, and one of my cousins was doing a fundraiser for NARAL Prochoice for her B-day. I sent a donation and sent her a message that I agreed with her views, but my Mom does not share my views, so I do not post about it on FB. She has a son that is Gay and she mentioned that she is very concerned about the way things are going rn. I told her I am kind of hoping my DD will relocate to a more Blue state. IL is one she could easily go to, but who knows how long they will stay pro-choice.

Sharing medical information without a legally required reason is dangerous to the healthcare professional. They could open themselves up to serious risk if they share their suspicions without a legally sanctioned reason to do so. That means either a law requiring reporting or a court order that requires compliance. Anything short of that is not permissable
