I don't know what possessed me to get my kid an Apple product when all the other phones in our house are Android, but it is what it is and now I have to deal. My question is, I have an old Apple ID from when I had a 4s forever ago. Everything I'm reading said the kids should have their own ID so they can be on Family Link and such and if they have your ID they'll be able to access all your "stuff". Well, since I don't have any "stuff" since I don't have an iPhone, does it make sense to just use my ID on his phone? That way I can at least log in to icloud and put restrictions on the phone or monitor his use or whatever it is you can do from there. I don't think it's easy to monitor him from an Android.
If I do it like that am I messing him up? The only thing I can think of off the top of my head is he won't be able to log into the Apple store whenever unless I'm around to enter my password.

I have an Apple phone, so does my now almost 14yo DD.
She uses my Apple ID. So basically we have 2 iPhones both using the same Apple ID. No, she cannot access any of my "stuff". We have entirely different contacts and notes and apps and messages and everything else. Those are tied to the phone number, not to the Apple ID.
You should be fine using your Apple Id for his phone. And you are right, he will be unable to purchase anything off the Apple store or upgrade anything unless you type in the password.

Ok. I really have no stuff anyhow, but this is what it says on the apple site.
"An Apple ID is the account that you use with Messages, the App Store, and other Apple services. Everyone should have their own Apple ID, so don't share your Apple ID with your child. If your child uses your Apple ID, your child will have access to all your personal content, including text messages and photos."

DD1 has an iPad and she has her own Apple ID. Both DH and I have iPhones while I have an iPad. DD1’s account is linked to my account for the Family aspect, but she can’t see anything of mine. For her to purchase anything, I have to approve it.

I'm just going to use mine since it sounds like that will work fine. I doubt there's any chance I'll ever leave android.

macreports.com/how-to-create-an-apple-id-without-an-apple-device-credit-card/This link is geared to creating an Apple ID but it does show that there is a web based interface you could go to set up the family account but I agree that having your son use your account shouldn't be a problem. Your account may have photos, messages and contacts on the cloud so you may just want to delete those before giving him free rein.
