Me neither that's why I started a thread in Current Events. What's next for Missouri, successfully suing a homeowner's insurance company for catching an STD when in someone's home?

So she knowingly had unprotected sex with a guy. But the article failed to mention whether the guy had a std test prior to sex that he concealed. Plus no evidence that the hpv lead to anything for her besides a positive test.
Ugh hope the attorneys aren't doing this based only on what they earn.

Even if the car's motor was running, the sex had nothing to do with the operation of the vehicle. Someone, and some attorney, has too much free time.

This one was real "leopards ate my face" material. The company requires their customers to sign binding arbitration agreements that are typically stacked against the customer and keeps the courts out of disagreements with coverage. It just happens that this one binding arbitration didn't go their way, and they are trying to call the arbitration agreement unenforceable and get it thrown out. The courts aren't ruling on the merits of the case, just that the arbitration agreement is valid. amp.kansascity.com/news/article262267902.html

Wonder if the arbiter is an activist or GEICO did not show up at all, so ...
From the article above-
In May 2021, the arbitrator found that the man and woman had sex inside his vehicle that “directly caused, or directly contributed to cause” the HPV infection. The man was found liable for not disclosing his infection status and the woman was awarded $5.2 million for damages and injuries to be paid by GEICO.

It makes me really angry when people file frivolous lawsuits just because they can, but this one is really off the charts. How many babies were conceived in cars? Is auto insurance responsible for child support too?

Why do we have to have yet another thread here? The one on CE was first. YMOT is not its own little world that you can't venture away from.

I just browse the "new topics" for threads that look interesting, which is why I replied to this one. The other threads had dropped pretty far down the list and I didn't notice them.

So maybe those people ought to broaden their horizons and make use of the "New Topics" link at the top so we don't duplicate so much. Because those of us who *do* use that find it annoying to see the same thing posted in multiple locations.
And, when you use that link, it tells you what board the topic is on so if you don't want to visit the politics forum you don't have to. That said, I don't consider not wanting to go to certain boards a reason to duplicate a topic here. This place really shouldn't exist because we have other places already to post the threads you have here.

I just clicked on the New Topics thread and it was a mess of topics from boards I'm not interested in keeping up with. As the forum owner why don't you just nuke YMOT?

The new topics is a way to view everything from one point of origin rather than having to manually go to CE to view those threads, go back out and do the same on EE, etc.
The point is that you all use this board to discuss all the shit that really *should* be posted elsewhere - like EE, politics or CE. The YMOT crowd seems to feel like they should be able to just post in this one little bubble instead of posting where topics actually belong or would be more appropriate.
When I allowed this sub board, I didn't intend for it to be used that way. I intended it to still be money related in some fashion. Regrettably, that (mostly) isn't happening. And you can believe I have indeed thought about getting rid of it - more than once.

It's money related but not YOUR money related. The purpose of YM is to discuss financial strategies for your own lives, right?

And we can't discuss finances on a broader level? Especially on an off topic board? What would be an off topic YM discussion anyhow?

Yes, you can. On EE or Current Events or somewhere else. YMOT was never meant to be a replacement for the other boards, or a way for people to just stay on YM and go nowhere else because "reasons". The only reason it was created is because the same ones who don't want to venture away kept posting the off topic stuff on the main YM board.
Why do people have such an avoidance for boards other than YM?

Well, I tried to delete the thread and it only deleted the post. I won't post here anymore. eta: LOL Just looked in my history, and this is literally the ONLY thread I've started in YMOT in the past 18 months and I get chewed out for posting all my "shit" here.

minnesotapaintlady, it has nothing to do with you, personally. You just happened to have the bad luck of being the one that started this thread on this particular topic.
My point is the same regardless of thread. It applies to *any* thread on YMOT.
I basically want for the people who post on YM/YMOT to justify the existence of YMOT. And 'because I don't want to post on XYZ board' isn't valid to me. Why *don't* you (general) want to post where things are intended to be posted?

I came over via the old MSN site and YM was the only thread I read on that board. I've very occasionally (and not recently) looked at the other boards and they don't really have much interest to me. I like YMOT because it gives a glimpse into the lives of people that I've come to 'know' over the last few years. Some of that knowledge may have very little to do with money but it doesn't mean it is not important to the people who post or interesting to their readers. I'm sure there are plenty of members who have no interest in either YM or YMOT so neither read nor post on those boards. At the same time, I don't doubt that there are little cohorts posting on Everything Else or Politics or Healthy Living. I don't resent their friendships or camaraderie and if they want to discuss something that's also being discussed on YMOT then I wish them the best and certainly wouldn't be upset that other 'groups' wanted to discuss the same subject. I admit I'm having difficulty wrapping my head around why it is so important to you that a particular subject cannot be discussed on more than one thread.

Others get merged into it and the duplicates get locked (with a link to the first thread). Why should YMOT be any different?
I still don't understand what's so hard about going to other boards to post. Just because it's your (general) habit not to? That's weak.

I'm suggesting you stop merging threads and let readers navigate to whichever forum they are most comfortable. I don't understand the need to control where people post. The boards are supposed to be for everybody to enjoy and I'd rather moderators didn't 'flex their muscles' beyond ensuring people are not behaving inappropriately toward other posters.

Hate to burst your bubble, but people actually complain - via the report post function - about duplicates, so it's not just me.

Well, clearly we're not going to agree. I guess I'm just not the sort of person that gets upset if there's more than one post on a subject people wish to discuss.
Hope you have a good weekend and I do appreciate the time and energy you put in to hosting these boards.

I still don't understand what's so hard about going to other boards to post. Just because it's your (general) habit not to? That's weak. I purposely do not go into the politics or news-based boards because a lot of the topics discussed stress me out. For the same reason I don't use the New Topics button because typically half the threads are from those two places and just reading the title can get me sucked into something that will just get me upset. So yeah, my general habit is to stay in YM and WIR. It honestly never dawned on me to start a thread in a forum I never go to. I do think it's pretty lame that people complain about having to scroll past a duplicate thread every now and then, but whatever. I'll go back to only posting on YM.
