i haven't made my mind up, but i want to post here before i do. i am thinking of the same pick as last week, SOYB, GRU, REMX, USO. a lot of the commodities look good, but not so much the precious metals. i really like SOYB, but i am not confident it will put on much of a show. oh, and by the way, i really like that food stock you picked last week, KD. that thing has been putting on a SHOW the last twelve months.
edit: if for some reason i forget, i will take WEAT long, again. i have a busy weekend coming up.

curious about the commodity bets, what exactly are these - like etfs for commodities? I thought buying commodiities was harder then just plugging in a symbol and clicking buy?
All my knowledge about commodities come from trading places....

All my knowledge about commodities come from trading places.... i have been having atrocious luck with equities this year. through 16 rounds, i had an average loss of 0.5% per week. so, i switched to commodities ETF's. YES, commodities are harder to trade than equities. the capital requirements are different, and they go through the CBOE instead of standard trade exchanges. but recently, there have been some ETF's cropping up that specialize in a FEW commodities. USO, as an example, is dedicated to oil contracts. UNG (which won and placed for me in consecutive weeks) is a Natural Gas ETF. this is a "trial balloon" for me. if i can make money this way, i am bailing on my equities until this market shifts back into a bull market. i have lost big money this year as equities continue to get their asses kicked. i have done better on this board than i have done with my own holdings even BEFORE i moved to commodities.

curious about the commodity bets, what exactly are these - like etfs for commodities? I thought buying commodiities was harder then just plugging in a symbol and clicking buy? All my knowledge about commodities come from trading places.... A straight play on Commodities is dfferent from an eft. Commodities are traded for the actual price it will be delivered at the end of the contract date. You can play the month the contract that expires in the month of June now for most commodities. Traders are active in mostly the two most current monthly contracts but can go out for a year or longer also. As in the grains, oil and metals you can go out well over a year out betting on the price the commodity is currently trading. Each month has an ending date where if you are "long" you must take ownership of the product unless you sold it before the contract expires. Traders bet either they can buy now at a low contract price and sell it as it comes closer to expiration at a higher price per barrel, oz, ton, whatever the contract represents. Traders can go short by "selling" the contract now, betting the price is currently too high and will drop before the expiration date where they can buy it back at a lower price Commodity trading used to be primarlily for farmers who could see a garenteed price for their product in outgoing months, and the processors who bought contracts locking in their cost of product for months out at a time. Same for oil refiners who could see what their cost was going to be by the contracts they bought, rather than buying on the open cry market, which you see trading daily on the exchanges. Southwest airlines was famous for buying jet fuel contracts for a year out from expiration when the prices were low and took delivery of the low price product while other airlines bought it on the open market at almost twice the cost as oil would rise. Remember when oil prices collapsed two years ago? Traders rented tanker ships to store the product because they could not sell it at a profit. Then they ran out of storage tanker ships as well as storage tanks across the world. That caused oil prices to collapse. This is the simple answer, and it does get very complicated. Hunt brothers thought they could control the silver market and almost went bankrupt when silver dropped from over $40 an oz to less than $10. This happened back in the 70's or 80's Another major trader tried manipulating natural gas futures by actually selling his contracts to himself at a higher price and then buying them back at a higher price inflatiing the actual price that did not reflect the actual demand for the product. Eventually he could no longer afford to buy the inflated contract price, and there was no one there to buy his contracts. The price dropped to less in half in two weeks, busting him. This happened back around maybe 2005??

METC is interesting.I aloost played this one last week, and should have. It popped even on an earnings miss last week, and might sell off this week, but I am not sure it actually will do that. WMT reports this week as a bunch of major retail corporations. With inflation and consumers getting pinched by inflation, they should report good numbers and say consumers are trending their way. I should play it this week.......
I will go with CSCO this week. This is a stock the traders seem to hate and never give it a chance. They report this week and not sure if tech will be given a chance to pop this week or not, let alone CSCO. I will go with the underdog this week. I like this company. CSCO, long

LOL, UPST and my pick a couple of weeks ago, SNOW would have been great shorts last couple of weeks. Both showed some life at the end of last week. I like your chance this week! I am not sure I feel the same way with SNOW this week..........

edit: my target on WEAT is $12.50 i have a feeling it might hit it early in the week and fall off. but all of the tailwinds are with Wheat futures right now. so maybe not. i can't predict what will happen.

Congratulations Clarkrl2! I still vividly remember the day I retired after 48 years with the same company, and the feeling of leaving the workforce! dj, don't you think when the owner throws his own party for retiring, it strikes the troops negatively I hope you find your replacement soon. You deserve to reap the rewards!
