Kid has pants, kid has a jacket. Doesn't want to wear them because she doesn't like any of them. Wears T-shirt and shorts instead. It's 63 outside. Bitches she's cold. Well ya put fashion over practicality so that's on you kiddo. All through HS, if not middle as well, my son wore tshirts and shorts- even in the dead of (Colorado) winter. He'd have to walk from a friend's house to the bus stop and wait, too. He would occasionally wear a hoodie but that's it. He's still like that, only now he has a job where he's been wearing jeans because he hasn't found a pair of black shorts he likes.
I only wear coats myself if I'm going to be outside in the cold for longer than 10 or 15 min. Otherwise, it's just too much of a pain in the ass to put it on to go to the car. take it off in the car because the car is warm put it back on to walk inside wherever take it back off inside keep track of it
Even when I do wear a coat, it's not a heavy one. I don't even own a really heavy jacket. If I'm going to be out taking pics and it's really cold, I'm more likely to dress in thin layers with multiple lightweight jackets. I don’t even own a coat. The possibility of maybe 15 days of below 40 doesn’t warrant owning one. I do have a blue Jean jacket that has martini glass in sequins and “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere” in sequins on the back. Son gave it to me when I drug up from work long ago. I agree they are a pain in the ass!

Also need to look at vaccinations needed. India is going to be the biggie, I think. I never needed vaccinations for India although I did get meds to prevent malaria. You start them a few days before the trip. I have a quiet day ahead- sometimes I feel a bit guilty when I see everyone else juggling jobs, kids and extended family issues but I've been though them in the past. I wish you all peaceful futures. One poster I miss is Haitian. I'm pretty sure we didn't scare him away but he was another person juggling a lot and he may have stopped posting due to all the other demands on his time.

Waiting for the cleaners. Really hoping things go well today. It's not ideal for me to be away from work so much, but just have to hope for the best.

And, in fact, if it's above 30 and not really breezy I'll still skip a coat even if I'm going to be out a while. Long sleeve T is enough. It's got to be way closer to 0 before I start thinking heavier. EXCEPT if I'm going out to Barr Lake to watch bald eagles in January. Then I'm bundled because even if it's only partly frozen, the breeze out on the gazebo makes it hella cold.

I'm on the third time of moving my kid out. My emotions on it are all over the place...all three times.
Don't worry, they'll come back at least a time or two after they're out on their own. Ask me how I know. LOL, this was my experience too. After about the third time you will be like can you just take all your stuff with you or donate it so I don't have to store it. And-I still get mail. DS took a new job, and I got 2 letters that I think were generated from his new employer. I asked him if they had the right address.

DD and I were just discussing Boston - she said they get way more snow but it is no where near as cold as we get here. She said their friends that visit them from Boston are just shocked at how bitter cold it gets here. It was 50 here this am and I had a light quilted jacket on. That is like for fall, I have 2 one blue Michael Kors and one Black Eddie Bauer. I have 2 raincoats, 2 windbreakers, a lightweight fall wool coat, a down jacket for winter, a long wool winter jacket with a synthetic fur collar that is maybe 25 years old, and 3 long down coats for "walking the dogs". I hate being cold. My commute is 35-minutes to an hour depending on traffic, and I need my coat in the car. Brr.

Walk, I was thinking about this when you said mosquitoes were biting you so I looked it up, bet you have too.
Are there any diseases in Fiji that can be prevented?
Bugs (like mosquitoes, ticks, and fleas) can spread a number of diseases in Fiji. Many of these diseases cannot be prevented with a vaccine or medicine. You can reduce your risk by taking steps to prevent bug bites.

Carrot did wear a quarter zip sweater over his polo, but he'll probably take it off (and forget it) at school.
I haven't dug the jacket out for myself yet either. I mean it was in the 90's on Tuesday, so this weather feels good. 50-60 is my happy place.

I do not like driving with a bulky coat so I usually wear layers and a medium thick jacket, but I do keep a coat and blankets in the car for emergencies.
I have an embarrassing amount of light and medium thickness jackets. I get cold easily when there is no sun, that is likely more a symptom of my SAD though.
ETA: My area sees below zero temps very rarely.

We've gotten down to -30F numerous times in the last couple years. You wear a coat in that kind of cold period even if you're only going to be outside a few minutes. Winter weather gear is a hill I will die on when needed. If it's bitterly cold to where I broke the glass on the backdoor just bumping it with my butt then you're wearing a coat to school. Otherwise I don't really care just don't complain to me about it. You own pants and a jacket you just don't "like" them. It's called consequences kid. You don't want to be cold then you dress for the weather not for whatever tween mood you're in today.

Yes, I liked listening to Haitian too, but he scared me with debt that didn't seem to bother him. I do hope he and his family is doing well and wonder if they had more children.
DD and I need to go through our many coats. I know bunches of them are way to big and they are very good quality. I won't get rid of the Lands End ones though, bought them on sales and we may gain weight again at some point. Right now TJ Maxx, has some really nice ones for $59 and if we need them need to get one. They only have the navy blue in XL and the white in multiple sizes, but white?? I'm not sure I can handle white. I may look at Burlington Coat too as they often have some really nice ones.

I have IDK how many coats for the kids. I need to go through and donate some. It's not because I buy them I am the type of parent who buys one coat and buys it a little bigger so we have time for them to grow into it. Plus they never wear them unless they need to so I am not buying multiples. Since they never wore coats down to my in laws MIL always assumed it is because DH and I never bought them one. Every single freaking time we'd go down there she'd have another coat. We couldn't convince her the kids don't want to wear them and we don't care. Nope must be we lost it. We had so many in the house, in our cars, etc because she just would not stop. No amount of lecturing, begging or telling her we were driving them straight to the donation bin (thus wasting her money) would make it stop. We finally told them suck it up and wear your damn coat to grandma's before we end up on A&E.

Left home in the high 60's and only traveled 6 hrs north. Freak blizzard moved in. I am without a sweater. After that adventure I vowed to never travel any further north than I-10 in the "winter time" But I should also explain that I live in a city that averages 65 - 70 inches of rain annually and I don't even own a raincoat. They can be a PITA too. Being retired I just look out the window and if I see a black cloud or rain I just say piss on it and don't head out!! I did use umbrella when I worked and didn't want to look like drowned rat in the office. I also lead a very dull life

You've got the lakes up there and that changes the game. You don't know my kids! 46 this morning and both in shorts. 46 is balmy here. I could do shorts in that lol. But again, you're in a different area and it does make a lot of difference.

Good news so far from son. He said not problems at school yet. He asked grandson what was going on, no emails from teacher yet this year. He said son told him he decided to be good this year. We think it's possible a different teacher could be helping. No matter why it's good news so far and hope it continues. I hope that all the talks we had about being a good kid may have sunk in, I know they have too.
He said he also enrolled son in an afterschool art program they pay for. His mom is so talented we are hoping he has that talent too. He said that he told him if he takes it seriously no problem but if he was just drawing stick figures they would drop it, LOL! He said he actually came home with a decent drawing. He asked if he likes it, and he said yes. I give them credit they are exposing him to all kinds of things to find something he likes. He isn't going to be athletic, none of us is. The only one was hubs brother. I hope they can find an activity besides playing on the electronics to excite him.
It's a beautiful day out only 66 so far. Sounds like it's to be 47 tonight. Fall is sure coming. I'm wondering if that temp will get my elephant ears, need to look it up.
Routine things done, going to fix my hair and actually start on paperwork. I have procrastinated long enough.

Well, the car definitely needs rear brakes. I told them to go ahead and do the front brakes while they're at it; they're getting thin, too. We're going back to Maryland in a couple of weeks. We'll want decent brakes. Plus oil, all synthetic as it's a hybrid.
A good soaking rain is promised but not yet materialized.
I grew up in Massachusetts and have noted I'm much less sensitive to cold than almost everyone I know as an adult. Maybe it was those years we had to wear skirts to public school in the winter, because pants were for boys. My theory is that we all feel the temperature the same. It just doesn't bother me to be cold. I often prefer it. I really cannot stand the heat, though.

Gwen told me there is allegedly a 7th grader selling edibles at school. I said there is no way in hell he's selling actual edibles. I said if he is smart he's taking Jolly Ranchers or gummy bears out of their wrappers, putting them in baggies and then selling them. You guys are impressionable enough to THINK you are getting high. You don't have the experience to know what you're getting. Meanwhile he's making out like a bandit. That is when I realized I unintentionally gave my 7th grader an awesome business idea.

I grew up in an ice rink, with practice 2h/day at least 5d/wk for years. tights and leg warmers only do so much to keep yoy warm. 🤷♀️ today I'm wearing a long sleeve t-shirt, shorts, flip flops while I await the same soaking rain. the barometric pressure is definitely off though, LD has been pacing all day so far. he got a CBD treats earlier, and I hope he just goes downstairs again to nap. it's a bunker down there.

Got my temporary crown removed and the permanent one put on over lunch. It feels a little weird yet, but the temp one did too for a week. It was also my first experience of being asked for money at the dentist office. I'm like "WTH?". This isn't how this works. Don't I just walk out now and insurance takes care of it? Oh well, I knew the bill was coming, just didn't think I'd have to pay on the spot. $600 towards my $1000 spend requirement on the new CC to get $250 in onboard cruise credit.

raeoflyte I'm glad your sister was able to ask you for you help. How did you find the cleaning company specializing in that? Every time I go to my mom's house I cringe. The outside is getting overgrown too. I'm certain it's a combo of hoarding tendencies and not being home a lot. I want to help but I don't know where to start. I despise the cold. I think my body doesn't regulate temperatures well. Bad circulation or something.

We have no dental insurance for any of us, so all out of pocket. Been a few years since my last implant so hoping it continues.
I bought a Cusinart saucepan and lid, it's the iron coated with enamel. Hope it's as good as the Le Creuset ones I have. Have a bigger one in that brand and a deep skillet plus dutch oven, had them for years and are wearing well. I bought them at Tuesday Morning in Texas. I'm keeping only the stainless pans, iron, and coated iron. Also have a huge Martha Stewart iron skillet with only coating on the outside, so I have red and dark blue plus light blue ones. Everything I read says aluminum and none stick coatings contribute to alzheimers. My MIL had pans like that, that literally had all the coating off of them but bits. I didn't know it till we cleaned her kitchen out. I have gotten rid of most during the years, the rest are going.
I just turned off the AC and opened the doors and windows, but like hubs said, likely can't do it long the stink bugs are coming out again.

Even when I do wear a coat, it's not a heavy one. I don't even own a really heavy jacket. If I'm going to be out taking pics and it's really cold, I'm more likely to dress in thin layers with multiple lightweight jackets. This is me too.

The outside is getting overgrown too. I'm certain it's a combo of hoarding tendencies and not being home a lot. I want to help but I don't know where to start. I despise the cold. I think my body doesn't regulate temperatures well. Bad circulation or something. I googled pet hoarding clean up and her zip code. Once she was able to say the h word it made it easier to discuss clean up. Someone at her job had suggested one of the restoration places, but even though they deal with similar stuff, I was worried about people who would make her feel worse than she already does. I'm starting to panic a bit. It's just such a big job even after the worst of the cleanup is done.

If you lived in Wisconsin you would own a coat. Brr. Trust me I would too! I've got caught once in freak snow when traveling. I also lead a very dull life I have a lot of coats, covering all temps. I have a long down coat I wore in Calgary, but not since then. My cashmere one is a bit too tight still but I am not getting rid of that. Then I have mostly rain jackets. One of my favorite jackets is a green boiled wool jacket I bought from Talbots 25 years ago. I have worn the crap out of this one, and TD hates it. I refuse to get rid of it because it is warm and cozy and doesn’t itch in the least. It was also the only jacket I had I could wear when I had a cast on my wrist.

Lots of changes for federal taxes this year. That will help
The standard deduction amounts were increased for 2022 to account for inflation. Married couples get $25,900 ($25,100 for 2021), plus $1,400 for each spouse age 65 or older ($1,350 for 2021). Singles can claim a $12,950 standard deduction ($12,550 for 2021) — $14,700 if they're at least 65 years old ($14,250 for 2021). Head-of-household filers get $19,400 for their standard deduction ($18,800 for 2021), plus an additional $1,750 once they reach age 65 ($1,700 for 2021). Blind people can tack on an extra $1,400 to their standard deduction ($1,350 for 2021). That jumps to $1,750 if they're unmarried and not a surviving spouse ($1,700 for 2021).
Here's some good news for retirees: The IRS updated the table used to calculate required minimum distributions (RMDs) to account for longer life expectancies beginning in 2022. That means RMDs should be a bit smaller starting in 2022 than they were before.
For people who are still saving for retirement, many key dollar limits on retirement plans and IRAs are higher in 2022. For example, the maximum contribution limits for 401(k), 403(b) and 457 jumps from $19,500 to $20,500 for 2022, while people born before 1973 can once again put in $6,500 more as a "catch-up" contribution. The 2022 cap on contributions to SIMPLE IRAs is $14,000 ($13,500 in 2021), plus an extra $3,000 for people age 50 and up.
A lot more information is there regarding retirement savings.

Yep. My broken tooth was a $2500 charge to my credit card. Dental insurance ended the day after it broke.
