speaking of salad dressings: My favorite and a favorite around here is crumbly bleu cheese with italian or vinaigrette. I have travelled enough to know it is not available every where. Is it just a Northeast thing? Is 1,000 Islands dressing also a NY thing or is that nationwide? Thousand island dressing is disgusting. So is French dressing. Yuck. Agreed. And aren't Catalina dressing and French dressing the same thing?

Catalina vs French dressing Although Catalina and French dressing share a host of the same ingredients, ratios are starkly different. Consequently, this has a role in differentiating the two sauces when it comes to color and even texture. Because Catalina tends to consist of a higher amount of ketchup, it boasts a deeper red hue. French dressing tends to be lighter in color given its higher concentration of oil and modest amount of ketchup or tomato-based ingredients. In cases where the dressing contains eggs or mayo, French dressing will have a pale, almost yellow-orange hue.
This difference in ingredient proportions also means that each condiment has a varying viscosity. While Catalina's recipe allows it to take on a thinner and less chunky texture, the same can't be said for French dressing. Not only does the increased amount of fat make the dressing thicker, it also produces a more luscious and velvety mouthfeel. Moreover, the presence of other spices and herbs in French dressing can also impact its thickness.link

We don't tend to make our vinaigrettes with blue cheese though. You put the italian on top of the crumbles. Mixing them makes the crumbles soggy.

Oh, round here bouts, we add blue cheese to salad all the time! There's also a gorgonzola movement / competition.

I would say yes, but I'm repulsed by both so I could be wrong.

Based on the lecture I got about French dressing I am going to say probably not. My great uncle made his own blue cheese dressing. People would get half blue cheese half Italian. It looked like such a gloppy mess.

I used to only use French dressing on salads, until my fave French dressing was discontinued for a "creamy" version. Nope. I also had a taco salad that my aunt brought home in the late 80s that included Doritos and Catalina dressing, and it still remains one of the best taco salads that I have ever had!

My aunt used to make a dip with catalina and cream cheese whipped together. I am sure she had a few other things in the dip, but the cream cheese and catalina are what I recall for sure.

In Texas we have ranch, jalapeno ranch, and chipotle ranch I've seen French and Thousand Island too, but I don't favor them.

Why do they call it French dressing? They don't eat French dressing in France.

Point of history: 1000 islands salad dressing hails from the 1000 islands region of upstate NY, where George Boldt introduced it at the Waldolf Hotel in Manhattan. We love visiting that area but rarely get back there. One of my great „go on through the border, you‘re clearly too stupid to be a terrorist“ moments was telling border patrol that we were planning on staying in „Gan-o-noke“. Didn’t figure out the eye roll till we heard someone pronounce it properly (Gan-o-NOCK-way).

Add me to the mayo-haters list. I also like ketchup on its own (okay, as a condiment on fries etc on its own) but I‘ve never met a dish containing ketchup as an ingredient that I liked. For some reason my ipad keeps trying to predict Ivermectin instead of I‘ve. My ipad is republican

Oooh let's throw Russian dressing into the mix! The sub shop i worked in years ago had a "secret recipe" for their russian dressing. It was 1/2 ketchup and 1/2 mayo. I was quite underwhelmed when I was let in on the secret.

Same here plus Roquefort cheese. Love both in dressing form too. Used to buy both from a local restaurant that made their own. Hard to find good dressings now.

They keep changing the recipes on the store-bought dressings. There are a number of them I used to like. I still like a good home-made dressing.

Right there with you on the same journey abd also being way more vocal about it. Just tonight dh was on the computer messing around and I may have popped my head in and said there is still joint parenting to be done. Dd11 passed out this morning from a new med. Bonus teen has been majorly depressed again the past couple of days. And at 8 pm, I was heating up soup for dd15 who has worked herself into a cold and needs to covid test tomorrow. I realized (again) this weekend that dh isn't actually responsible for anything except himself which I'm going to bring up in therapy this week. There isn't any amount of helping out that is going to fix that or alleviate that stress level. And while I build in a lot of time for myself I am still responsible for getting everything done. I really don't think my dh can change in a meaningful way on that front. I've made my peace with that time and time again. But if he isn't happy and wants more/different support from me that is where I think we are at a serious impasse. My DH has been going above and beyond in helping on all kid fronts as we divide and conquer issues with all 3 girls for well over a month. Even anticipating our needs. Just sucks that he chose to duck out on a night I was completely fried from all day child care. Should add an update to WIR thread but also should finish some work.
