Hospitals are a great place to get sick, with a significant risk of picking up a resistant bug. I get the convenience/preparedness factor, but if you know you’re going to a place where there is a high concentration of sick people (at a time point where all the respiratory viruses are spiking at once) wouldn’t you want to mask for your own sake? I walked into the hospital in KY with an infection in my hip. I walked out of it as a carrier for MRSA. Luckily, the infection in my hip was not MRSA, but had they done the surgery they wanted, there is no doubt I’d have been dealing with a superinfection. Hospitals are great places to pick up antibiotic resistant bugs. Longer you are there, the greater your risk. I am now picturing a mask on your hip. Might be a little punchy over here, as further illustrated by the fact I just signed in to the wrong meeting

Allergy doctor's office usually is not full of sick people. The day she's in that particular office, most of the other patients seem to be older ones going to audiology for ear/balance issues. I also sat in the waiting room for under 5 minutes alone in the allergy shot waiting area.
I'm happy to follow the rules, I would just like to know what they were before leaving the house so I can prepare. Front desk staff was not masked and no one in waiting room was either.
Also to clarify my appointment was in a medical office building, not the hospital.

Why not just go to the ER? You're still gonna sit around for hours, but you'll be seen that day and every instrument knkwn to man and every specialty is under the same roof. Go in the morning and it will be less busy. I don't know if you have it there, but here we can see ER wait times by hospital online. I won't go to the ER unless I need the ER. It's at least $1500 vs $150 at urgent care. Even when I was on a copay plan it was $25 vs $250 We have an Urgent Care by our house that is in a stand alone Medical Building owned by a local Hospital Chain group. The building is in the outlot of a small mostly outpatient surgery center. They do keep some people overnight there too and have a full emergency room. The Urgent Care clinic and the Hospital ER bill under the same group #, at least they used to. The last time my family used an Urgent Care center it was when DD had a Kidney Stone. I took her to a ER run by another hospital group. She was in so much pain, how much they were going to charge was the least of my concerns. They ended up deciding to send her to a larger hospital er in their group for more tests. I was not happy, was sorry I did not go to the other ER with DD. Insurance and Hospital Groups are kind of considered to be scam artists by me. Whatever they can do to charge the most $$ for the least amount of service is what it comes down to. The last time I had a prescription filled the insurance cost was like 3x the Good Rx Cost. I ended up not running it under my insurance. Imho this kind of stuff should be more regulated by our government. The problem is Lobbying and the Citizens United ruling.

Back when our hospital required masks they didn't let you wear your own anyhow. Too many people would be wearing these nasty, disease ridden cloth ones for weeks on end.

Seriously though, I now harbor MRSA in my nose as a carrier (which had I masked my entire time there, I might have avoided it) courtesy of my stay there. I had been tested several months earlier and was not, so know where I picked it up.

This is exactly why healthcare should not be a business. Why can't people just go directly where they need to and get help regardless of where it is and who they are?! I know it won't change, but it just sucks that in one of the richest countries in the world, people suffer and die because they can't afford healthcare. Well, to be fair, I don't want the ER plugged up with people who don't really need the ER either. Maybe the answer would be to have UC and ER located next to one another with a triage process that decides for you if you're not sure which one to pick? I would still want the option of going straight to ER though.
I'm really spoiled though. Both our UC and ER are normally super quick, but we have two urgent cares in a town of 26K. I've definitely never sat for multiple hours in one.
True. But here's another side of the coin. If people could afford preventive care, a lot of them wouldn't truly need an ER. The healthcare system in this country is beyond fucked. Anyway, I'll stop bitching about stuff I can't control. For now.

I have silicon spatulas, spoons, and flippers sitting in a container on the counter next to the stove. DH will literally reach into the drawer to pull out metal serving spoon. Strangle him for me, lol.

Strangle him for me, lol. I wish I could sometimes. Pretty sure my girls both understand to use silicon but will repeat it a while after I replace our pans. All of the responses have been great. Now, I just need to go home and check what sizes to replace. Had to make a rare office appearance to meet with head honchos. Was good timing as DH is home with a man cold so I'm avoiding him as well.

I am home from my appointment with a big stupid boot on. I tried to avoid the boot, and just try the brace he said I could use after it has healed enough. Overall, it can take up to 6 weeks to fully heal. He would not agree to skipping the boot. He wanted me to wait at least 2 weeks and come back to see if it had improved enough that I can transistion to just a brace. I pleaded my case that it’s already improving, I didn’t even have to hold on to stuff to walk this morning before I got some Motrin in my system, could I just come back next week for a brace. I can wear regular shoes with a brace, but they won’t let me work in a boot. He agreed to reasses next week, instead of waiting longer. The only good news is that he didn’t see a fracture on the x-rays, and it’s “only” a moderate strain. Random thoughts…. It was refreshing to talk to a Doctor that really knew their stuff. Just as an FYI for me, he pressed to show me where the nerve is that made my foot go numb because of the way I was sitting. Also, as soon as he took my shoe off, he said “you have a very high arch” and he said people with high arches, their feet tend to lean one way… no arches, feet tend to lean the other way. I immediately thought about how the wear pattern on the sole of my work shoes prove his point. He said since your foot already tends to go to that side because of your high arch, thats probably why you twisted it that way when it was numb. Not his exact words, but the gist of it and it made perfect sense. I thought it was interesting and I appreciated that I learned something about my foot and why it happened because he explained all of that to me.

I'm a dipshit in case anyone was wondering. I left a voicemail for an underwriter. I thought I hung up, but I didn't. I was working and all of a sudden my headset told me that I reached the maximum length for voicemail. So it was recording the whole time! I really hope I didn't say anything stupid thinking it was just me and the twins.

Pink - DD15s arches are like that. Her shoes always wore away on one side only until I started taking her to a running store to buy orthotics for $50 twice a year. They aren't fully customized but ones where you step on their machine so they can get measurements and they had a 100% satisfaction return policy so she wore the first ones a week and then we switched them for ones that were even better. Really helped her knee pain. Something you might consider as much as you stand at work.

I'm the same way. my right foot pronates outward with each step, and I'd bet my house that 100% of my ankle sprains/strains have been that foot. I can't at all remember twisting my left. as far as footwear, I basically live in my Oofos slides here at home. I'm not sure if steel toe is required for your job with all the machinery, but if it's not, I'd recommend checking out the brand. they have more than just slides and flip flops, so you could definitely find something appropriate for a workplace.

I guess I made a suitable impression on the plumbing company yesterday because I got multiple texts this morning and 3 appropriately groveling men on the doorstep by 10 am. I should have an estimate by Monday night

The delivery people called so they should be here pretty soon. It said 2 to 6 PM so they are doing well.
I see another section of fence down. Don't like that as they can see our modular from the convenience store parking, that bothers me not being here. I am going to check with the park manager and if its not them, the convenience store owner to see who is repairing this. It is not our responsibility, that's for sure. But they didn't even paint the carport and storage building last year so I'm doing that this summer. I will keep our place looking good. But that too is supposed to be their job.
Listening to Christie, like he says, the people backing the bad man know better. They sure do, yet they are doing it. Interesting, lets hope some listen to him.
Ok, now I'm ready to have the guys here and get this over with. I was snoozing in my recliner when they called and I want to snooze again.
I'm going to some singing little guy is doing tomorrow morning at his school. I am not going to take DD to it, I feel bad, but he doesn't need labeled and I fear they might. I know its sad to do this, but he is doing better and I want it to stay that way.

I guess I made a REALLY good impression on the plumbers because I just got the "Monday at earliest" quote. It $33,000 to replace everything all the way to the city main, which is a lot less than I feared. There will be another $5,000 or so to redo part of the deck and landscaping but that's not a problem.
Downside is this house will be so freaking awesome, I ain't moving!
I told DH up front going into this that I'm hiring a cleaning crew to deep clean the interior after all the work is done. That's probably another $500 or so which is chump change compared to the overall cost and will reduce my stress level so much.

I thought it was interesting and I appreciated that I learned something about my foot and why it happened because he explained all of that to me. Pink I used to have high arches but now because of age and the expected foot settling/fractures my arches are considered "normal". I highly recommend checking out Road Runner Sports that evaluates most of their shoes based on arch type - flat/low, medium/normal and high. Because its a running shop maximum cushioning for women is for anyone weighing 150 lbs or above if I remember correctly. I wish you luck in finding shoes that work for you.. Ariat does make work shoes. Their Fatbaby boots are very supportive for me but the casual chukka boot I tried was a massive fail. I am evaluating Atrex for myself but there are many podiatrist recommended brands including Propet and Orthofeet. I hope you find something that works for you as when my body is out of alignment too long bad things happen like sciatica, exhaustion etc. You found someone who knows what's what to explain it to you.

So, we're flirting with a foot of snow in the next 24 hours.
Not only is the city shutting down, except for essential workers, the county is also shutting down.
Fingers crossed DS doesn't have to go into work tomorrow.

My brother broke his ankle before Thanksgiving. Rolled it stepping out the front door. His feet pronate outward. The doctor told him that made him more likely to roll/sprain his ankles.

I have quite a few Cusinart pans, I get stainless steel for most cooking, but for frying I get non stick. I try to pitch them once they have many scratches. My MIL used them till no coating was left, if it does contribute to alzheimers, man she was a prime candidate. I try to watch all that stuff. I can get nice ones from TJ Maxx and Home Goods. I also have quite a few cast iron skillets and coated enamel cast iron dutch ovens, so a variety of cookware. DIL is very careful with all the different kinds of cookware also.
Some cookie sheets are non stick but I really like them without that stuff too.I did get the dishwasher working by leaving the breaker off for awhile. But It shouldn't do that, hoping it doesn't quit for awhile though. I was dreading it because it was packed with dirty dishes and pans, whew!!
I never watch the view, but Liz Cheney was on and I enjoyed her interview and the common sense approach of both her and Christie. I'm thankful some realize the threat we are under. Let's hope others become aware, yes, I'm really worried about this.
My new stove looks really good, from the front looks the same, but from the top is totally different with a black, glass top. I need to get the right cleaner for it. They cranked the burners up till high, didn't seem like the thing to do, bringing it in from the cold outdoors, guess it was ok though. I like the light on the cooktop that says hot cooktop after the burners are turned off. Nice touch. The guys delivering were pleasant, quick, and efficient, so went well. They did get a couple of dirty spots on the carpet but I will let it dry and vac, its fine. They had to come in the front door so had to go through the lawn. GE was the only American made I could find. It may or may not be better, but I do try to buy American when I can.

I'm surprised and saddened to hear you say that the folks in your area of Washington are so biased against those with physical or mental challenges that they would judge a little boy by his aunt's disability I guess that's the downside of smaller communities, but somehow I thought Washington State was more progressive. Even here in Texas I regularly attend meetings of various community groups where participants bring their adult special-needs children-it's just not an issue. How does your grandson's school deal with special-needs students?

We will see, but I will do whatever son and DIL want to do. If they don't care she will go. I know nothing about how they deal with special needs students here. I know grandson was having some issues for awhile and I didn't want to on top of that.
I haven't talked to them today, but I will.
I ordered some Smalls catfood, but that stuff is expensive and didn't seem like a lot of variety to me. So I got a sampler, they are trying to set us up for every 2 week delivery at something like $112 each. Good grief, give me a chance to see if they even like it before being so aggressive.
I hope I can drift off for a nap again, I just got into mine earlier. And I could tell I was snoring.

OK. I just got my rejection letter from the job I just applied for.
All I have got is that something smells rotten in the state of denmark.
Apparently, after two interviews, my background and skills were impressive, but apparently didn't closely match the job requirements.
If my skills and qualifications didn't match, why would they have extended me a second interview? Or even. a first.
I didn't even get to the 3rd interview that was focusing on technical skills. So, how could they even say my skills didn't match the position when they didn't even hear them?
And why would they say "good answer" or "gosh, that's great, I'm writing that down!" after most of my answers if I didn't match the job requirements?
The only thing I can think of is that they were looking for someone more entry level. Which, I kinda felt like I would have walked into a situation where I knew as much or more than folks that had been working there for a while. Like, things we were doing on our job 10 years ago and are parts of our standard processes these folks *just* started paying attention to within the last year.
That happened with another job interview I took. I didn't realize the job was more entry level when I applied. I answered all the questions the same for the job I almost got (and was told I could do nothing better). I was told I wasn't a good fit. How can check all the boxes, answer all the questions well, and not be a good fit? The only thing that was left was the fact that it was more of an entry level job . (I didn't consider the work entry level, and the pay was within a negotiable range of my pay before my COLA raise.)
I am going to have to keep applying. I was told things today that are not good. Like, in the past, other people were fired for similar behavior. The only difference is this time, the person doing the improper behavior is favored by top leadership.
I'm also going to have to set a deadline for retraining into something.
I wish people were trained on hiring.

I recently purchased two large All clad non stick pans for $30 (no lid) and $40 (with lid) at TJ Maxx. I’ve purchased them there in the past, too, but you have to keep an eye out for them. I’m apparently hard on them because I don’t expect them to last more than 4 or 5 years but I’m okay with that for the price I paid. My older Calphalon non stick lasted around 5 years but when I replaced it, I only got about a year before it was trashed.

(I didn't consider the work entry level, and the pay was within a negotiable range of my pay before my COLA raise.) I am going to have to keep applying. I was told things today that are not good. Like, in the past, other people were fired for similar behavior. The only difference is this time, the person doing the improper behavior is favored by top leadership. I'm also going to have to set a deadline for retraining into something. I wish people were trained on hiring. OMG same. I was supposedly THE candidate for the micro job. Loved all my answers. Sang the praise of my resume. At the last minute I was told I didn't fit their vision. I looked up who they hired. She's fresh out of graduate school and her master's thesis has NOTHING to do with the 20 million questions they asked me. Why did you lead me along? Why did it drag out two weeks? Why if whateverit is you saw in her was that important you didn't ask.me similar questions? PerhapsI can do those thibgs but didn't list it because when I was freaking recommend for the job I was told my resumevas it stands fit. No gatekeepking in science my ass. It's not like it's a new thing but I think I prefer the university just booting my application out at the get go. This was multiple days of wasted time and being strung along. It'd be one thing if she had a similar resume but WTF?! My best guess iis like always it was Oooh master's! And likely being a new grad they got away with paying her less than I would expect. Now I'm even MORE insulted they offered me a lab tech 2 position. Dude fuck you! I turned it down in more polite corporate speak. It did get brought up in the employee satisfaction survey.
