I didn’t leave urgent care until 3:45. By then I was livid. I had an appointment with my therapist at 4pm. I text her when I got in the Jeep to tell her it would have to be virtual. I couldn’t text her before then, because my phone died while I was in UC. She came online just before I got home and the first thing she said was “you’re driving!” I said “I’m about to turn on my street and park, I promise!” Which was true. I just sat in the Jeep in the driveway for the session, because I couldn’t unplug my phone from the charger yet anyway.
To make the UC ordeal worse, I finally went and asked what was taking so long since I had an appointment, she said they don’t do appointments. I said that’s not what your website says, where I scheduled and received confirmation of my appointment. It says the opposite, that you don’t accept walk ins. She said she knows that’s what it says but that’s beyond her control, I’d have to complain to someone else about that. TF?! I said, well you knew I thought I had an appointment because that was the first thing I said to you when I was checking in. You could’ve told me that then. She just looked at me.
When I got home, after I told Mister what she said, I showed him the screenshot I took yesterday of my appointment confirmation, then went to that specific location on their website and showed him where it says they don’t take walk ins, click here to schedule an appointment. Because I already feel so often that I must be in the Twilight Zone, or just going crazy, so I was asking him to confirm for me that the screenshot and their website really did say what I thought they said.
The ONLY reason I stayed, was because not only did I not go to work today because I’d made the appointment, I made the appointment in the first place because I wanted to know if walking on it for hours could cause more damage or prolong healing, and if that’s true, I need something from a medical professional saying that. I explained what kind of work I do, and that was the reason I was asking. She said that yes, walking on it for hours at a time so soon will likely cause more damage since it already hurts to walk, but she would not take me off work. She also expressed concern that from where it was hurting when she was pressing on it, and the fact that I still can’t move my pinky toe (I swore it moved a little when I first tried in front of her, she said it didn’t. Either way, I couldn’t do it again), that I might have torn a ligament, but she’s not an orthopedist, and can’t say for sure. Fucking great! I had convinced myself it was just a sprain or strain. Hopefully that’s still all it is.
So, ultimately, it was a waste of my time anyway. Now WTF am I supposed to do? I will call the orthopedist that I see for my shoulder and wrist and elbow issues in the morning and hope they can see me tomorrow and tell me what’s really wrong with it and what to do. If they cant see me tomorrow, imma just hop on into work Friday and see what happens.
I told my therapist today that I have started to get real down again, because it seems like the harder I try to work on myself and get my shit together, the more things keep going awry. Who the hell injures themself just standing up from a seated position on their bed? Me, that’s who.

Made a pan of lasagna, played with the oven a bit and got it done. DD and I had to test it so each had a big piece. I had extra cheese so put it on top, not as pretty but it sure tastes good. Yummy
I think DIL is coming by to eat soon. They were going skating but she changed her mind, said it was too cold. I may whip up a salad with it.
I ordered a stand mixture to use here, I got it new off ebay and a day early. I have a Kitchenaid so didn't want to buy another expensive one. I found a Vevo for $81!! Yep, a new stand mixer. Says its 660w, we will see. They had a smaller one but found a review that it was really small. I just washed the bowl and things and am going to try a cake mix with it. Of course, its made in China, but the reviews are good and they have sold a ton of them. I wanted it in yellow and this size did not come in it so ended up with silver. I wanted my kitchen stuff to match and its not going to. I'm anxious to try it as it is returnable if I don't like it. I also found a meat pounder, a nice draining spoon, and pancake turner for half price at Fred Meyers, they are well made and a good buy. Lots of things go on sale here.
Yum, its good enough I'm thinking of another piece, want to leave enough for son, DIL, and grandson.

There's a local breakfast place that has something called "Million Dollar Bacon" on the menu which is thick-sliced, hardwood-smoked bacon baked with brown sugar, black pepper, cayenne, and a maple syrup drizzle. Regulars just order the bacon crack. Line out the door on weekends. The restaurant Mister took me to for my birthday a few years ago had an appetizer that was 5 or 6 slices of thick bacon hanging from a small rack. Each slice was prepared differently and had its own unique taste. Every slice was DIVINE. I like bacon, but I’m not quite a bacon lover. It was Mister’s idea to order that as one of our appetizers. Everything we ordered tasted very good, but I would go back just for the bacon appetizer.

I haven't made it there yet, but it's on the list. 🤤

I had a post, and then I shut the computer down. I am going to be at my workplace until I retire. I don't think I can get hired anywhere else. And if someone is willing to take a chance on me, I don't think I'll be able to take a big enough paycut that will allow me to move. This last job that I just interviewed for. I would have had to take a 10% paycut, and that was if they could have offered me the highest salary possible. I'm feeling all sorts of upsetness about this. I feel duped. No one tells you this kind of stuff when you are in your early 30s... I'm going to have to figure out a way to make it 7 years. I'm sorry. I want out of my field so much but always run in to that issue. But being the primary bread winner and the one to carry insurance I just couldn't take the risk. So I feel you. I wish there was a solution. I hope there is one for you.

DH got southern crab cakes one time. Being born and raised in MD he was not pleased to find bacon in his crab cakes. Now where the boy left his brain when he ordered crab cakes in NC, I don't know. I love bacon but I do not subscribe to the Southern (and Texan) philosophy that it goes in or on everything. NO, not on burgers, not in gumbo, not in chili, not in all the other offenses against humanity I see it in. I think bacon on burgers is fine if that what you want. I however wish more folks would realize a slice of cheese is not needed on every bloody burger you come up with. Dairy is one of the big universal allergies. I wish more chains and places would plan their menus accordingly. I hate having to ask to have it omitted, and then it isn't and pretending taking it off is OK. Its not.

I know it doesn't sound like I am more balanced from my posts. I am. I have more meaningful real-people interactions. I have prioritized my family more now than I have in a long while. I am engaging in hobbies more than I did. I have processed quite a bit. Which helps. I was very naive about how the world worked. And I am lucky that I had the opportunity to be naive.

Who the hell injures themself just standing up from a seated position on their bed? Me, that’s who. Sorry Pin. Lots of people do hurt themselves doing simple things. Since I try to think good thoughts and stay on the path, for me, if something bad happens I try to recall what I was thinking. A good portion of the time, I was thinking something stupid or something counterproductive and it temporarily made me weak. For example if I am mad about not getting this current job I might think nobody likes me at job and if I am holding a knife it will fall out of my hand or something else unfortunate. So when I catch myself, I correct the thought and move on. Sometimes the consequences are bad enough and the thought really only momentary, I don't know what idiot thought my brain even rejected. (I need playback features). And sometimes of course its a combination of not paying attention and bad luck. But given you are trying to improve yourself, it feels to me that yourself was trying to tell you something and it got lost in the accident. I hope your walking etc. improves soon.

After a really dedicated effort to use down our freezer, we did a little bit of a stock-up at Aldi today. I got a Cornish hen, two bags of frozen crab cakes, 2 ribeye steaks (one for the grill and the other as part of a fun Asian recipe), and a package of ground turkey I'll break down tomorrow into portions and freeze.
I reached out on social media and got a couple of solid recommendations for other plumbing companies that I will contact and get quotes from. More on my plate for sure.
Author asked AGAIN that I email him all 294 chapters of his autobiography and I will, just not soon.

When I injured my pinky toe, they xrayed it, then the doc said it was too much for them to manage. Had to go to ER and wait for hours. Lately it seems like the urgent cares around here don't do much anymore. They either tell you to go see your own doc or go to the ER. I hope you can figure out what's wrong with your toe and it heals quickly.

Even when I was on a copay plan it was $25 vs $250

Yeah my urgent care copay is $50 and the ER one is $250. The ER one is waived if you are admitted. I was the last time I got sent there by urgent care.
If I had a choice, I wouldn't even send a stray dog to the local hospital so there's that. Urgent care isn't much better. There's a reason all my specialists are out of the county.

Now I have to figure why what the bank says is in my checking account doesn't match what my spreadsheet does and it did yesterday. I am sure this is an error on my spreadsheet because it was fine yesterday. Operator error on my part with the spreadsheet. Garbage in garbage out.

Its not. Asking for ingredients to be added/omitted is part of going out to eat. No restaurant will ever be able to cater to everyone's needs. Speaking as someone who is lactose intolerant, I'm much more worried about someone with a shellfish or nut allergy being catered to. I'd rather fart and they not die.

Tried making spanish rice tonight, it was sort of blah bc I mostly threw it together without planning. Also wound up figuring out how to make tortillas since the ones in the fridge had gone bad. Win: got DS an electric toothbrush for Christmas and he is now going in of his own accord to brush morning and evening and sometimes midday Also continuing to use my laser hair thingy. It’s not 100% but it looks to be having a real effect on legs…just tried it on underarms and could’ve sworn I caught a faint whiff of burning hair. I…think that’s good? Little bit weird.

Why not just go to the ER? You're still gonna sit around for hours, but you'll be seen that day and every instrument knkwn to man and every specialty is under the same roof. Go in the morning and it will be less busy. I don't know if you have it there, but here we can see ER wait times by hospital online. I won't go to the ER unless I need the ER. It's at least $1500 vs $150 at urgent care. Even when I was on a copay plan it was $25 vs $250 Yeah my urgent care bills run $250-$300. My copay is $50. ER runs $2000-$3000+ with a $100 copay. The urgent care is usually .5-1 hour wait. ER can easily be a 4-5 hour wait. My fractured toe ER bill was $5000. I'm grateful to have insurance that covered all but the $100.

We have one great urgent care back home. It's in the city so 40 or so miles away. They are staffed by 2 docs and now have some PA's, but so far they are good too. I can't say much for the ones up here, they don't do much.
They have saved DD with her gut issues more than once so that is a good thing.
I am worried about medical care up here. I never thought I would say our small towns down home are better. We seem to be attracting some good docs anymore. They have also really speeded up treatment in our local small town hospital ER. But I fear these new abortion laws may run many off again, damn.
I made lasagna tonight and the kids came over an together we ate most of it. Everyone had cupcakes I put in the oven too. Shortened the cooking time, than added a bit. Hope my new oven is more accurate. The little cheapy mixer worked good, its a Vivo brand, never heard of one before.
They were suppose to call today to set up a delivery time, no call. So will I get it or not? Will look at emails and see if they sent me something else today.
I am going to miss the kids, I wish hubs would get busy and move. We don't bother each other everyday, but we know we are here and if we need anything somebody is there. It makes it nice.

Ok delivery is between 2 and 6 tomorrow, got an email.
Now the dishwasher won't start again. I looked up troubleshooting and it said unplug and plug back up or try turning the breaker off for 5 minutes. I can't get to the plug so finally figured out which breaker it is and turned it off. I'm hopeful but don't know, have flipped it several times, but not for 5 minutes. I also tried 2 other resets and nope. Well, can't afford to buy a dishwasher too this trip so hope I can get it working again. I HATE doing dishes by hand. I might small amounts but not a d/w full, grrrr. If need be I will get one before the year is over I hope, will request it for birthday or anniversary or something. These appliances don't look all that old, I'm betting the stove may be 7 years. I think they redid this place in 2016. The fridge is dated that year. But nothing lasts very long anymore, a shame too for what they cost.
The most valuable thing I can get. A hug from my son thanking me for dinner, he doesn't know that is the nicest thing he can do for me. And I had the same from grandson crawling up on my lap for a bit. DIL was curled up on the couch, she said I keep my house warmer than theirs and she was cold so I gave her a blanket and heating pad and she got warm. It is cold out tonight, supposed to get 33.
She told me her friends from NY who got transferred by the military to Belgium are paying a ton for heating oil. She said that it's costing them $2,000 a month and the house is only at 67, so not even very warm. Man, that would be a killer.
Well, going to see if my dishwasher works, I sure hope so. But I don't understand it doing that ever so often.

Good morning, perseverant invisipeeps, hanging in there despite drains on your good will. I hope your Thursday shows you respect, and that a fabulous dessert or decadent bacon is offered to you just when you most enjoy it. I've been hearing a mechanical hum like a fan coming I think from the basement. I'll have to check it out since it won't stop after some hours now. We have natural gas and radiators, so a furnace and boiler. Don't know what it could be. It almost sounds like a/c, which makes no sense. We don't have central a/c and definitely would not have it on at this time of year if we did have it. Yesterday I made progress on the photography and supplies, getting it packed, ready to be stowed. I'll finish that in the next 2 days plus put away Christmas. Got to sort out the kitchen, too. January seems to inspire the urge to organize in so many people. It's a good time to take stock and consider changes in what isn't working or renewed investment in what does work. If we ran our lives like businesses we'd be looking at the year-end summaries, trying to divine a plan for the future. Some of you do that, I bet. Yesterday was not a great day for picture-taking as we were being lashed by rain, but this is one I took the morning of the storm named Finn. Some of you have seen it on FB. A man walking his dog in the dunes before dawn:

Decided to work onsite today and let DH have the house to himself. Did not sleep well last night and have a chiropractor appt at 3 so would have needed to drive to town today anyway and this gives us a little space/time apart. I even did my hair and makeup this morning.

Just a selfish update: I had the Wednesday weekly meeting with my boss yesterday. It was virtual and lasted less than 5 minutes. It was only awkward, but at least there was no ugliness. She asked me if I had anything to talk about and I said no. There's tons to talk about, but I've learned my lesson about asking her questions. In no way did she acknowledge that I've resigned.

Not a selfish update at all. I think a number of this are following your saga. You can borrow my strategy of scheduling client calls over my weekly 1-1 time using whatever works as your version of clients. I've found boss' tolerance to be missing 3 out of 4 per month before he'll call me out on it. This has greatly improved my work life.
