One of the questions asked by TurboTax is:
State and local tax refunds, usually reported on Form 1099-G, may be considered income and be required to be reported on your federal return.
Did you receive a state or local tax refund in 2010?
1.) Is this referring to any amount that I was refunded last year by California after doing my 2009 taxes?
Thanks.

yes
if you itemized it is now considered income
if you did not itemize, and took standard deduction, it should be noted but not taxable

I concur with the two replies above... also if you were in AMT the refund may not be taxable or if you took the deduction for sales tax and not state and local income taxes ...
