My son lives in S.Ca. & they have a nest in their lemon tree in their back yard. But while doing research, he found this link & sent it to me....it's interesting & some of the pics have little stories with them. Be sure to read the very last story.... www.mercurynews.com/2022/02/18/photos-odd-places-hummingbirds-have-built-their-nests/amp/PS...his are likely Anna's since they stay there year round & often build nests in Feb. before other species have returned in migration.

I'm very familiar with Mercury News and they are brutal regarding reading their articles for free. Ergo, cannot open the article. Looked for other sites by article title and they all go back to Mercury News.

Had no problem opening and reading very interesting. One of the best nature docs that PBS had years ago was about hummingbirds. My only regret is that after I watched it I deleted it fand have not seen it come on again! But I’m covered if it does since record option seems to hang out there forever.

You eventually will have a problem with Mercury News. You probably have 3 or 4 more free reads and then it's a pay wall.

But I get what you are saying since I ran into this once on another site that a friend was always posting. Said I had one more free and then I could subscribe. Nope!

The males are vicious to each other. In south Jersey I saw some live in a park.

They would have a go at each other and then take a break to sip, rinse, repeat.

I too often see two hummingbirds chasing each other away from my honeysuckle vines. Very territorial.
But then I have also seen videos like the below where there is little fighting with many hummingbirds at a feeder(s). What's up with that?
