It's been a long time since I have been on a long flight. Comfy shoes and a book are two of my must haves.

Have a fantastic trip, TheOtherMe . Nice lists, startsmart and Knee Deep in Water Chloe ! Speaking of traveling, I am asking my well-traveled friends the following: On a long flight, what is the one thing you are grateful to have with you? Most friends respond with an average of 3 items. What say ye? ETA: I forgot to mention niece1 said the outfits were cute and thanked me for them. I usually ask for an extra blanket before we leave, so I can sleep most of the way - lately my iphone with all my music and airpods.

Got an estimate from the contractor - 65000 to redo 2 bathrooms (we are keeping one tub and just resurfacing it) and the kitchen and we have to provide a lot of the stuff - like the cabinets, the vanities etc.
We will have to think about this - I would do it if it came with the materials, but I think it will cost more than 100K if we have to provide most of the items.
I think we will wait until after summer to get a couple more quotes. I want to get this done this year one way or the other. Given that we are not going into the office, I want a well designed space.
We just learned today that we have friends and family coming in all through August and September and we cannot house them all and also have a reno going.

saveinla I don't remember where you live (sorry!) but that seems very expensive to me. I'm in what's considered a VHCOLA here (close suburb of Paris). We paid about 9K for a full bathroom reno in 2010 (small bathroom), and about 22K for a full kitchen reno in 2017. That included all the purchases (but not appliances). Plus, the 22K included 3K to install a window in a blind wall. I know that prices have gone up a LOT, and like I said, I'm not sure where you live. But I would really encourage you to get another quote or two. Also, I sometimes worry that you people think I'm sponsored by Ikea LOL. But we have an Ikea vanity in the bathroom we remodeled in 2010, which has aged well, and we still absolutely LOVE our Ikea kitchen! FWIW, for the kitchen, we chose a guy who specializes in installing Ikea kitchens. I LOVE our kitchen. If you live near an Ikea, they really do have fabulous features. For example, we have two corners in our kitchen. In the old kitchen, that was where things went to die. In our new kitchen, the bottom cabinets have pull-out drawers, and our upper cabinets have rotating shelves. It makes SUCH a difference! PS Also, we kept our tile flooring, so it didn't include that either.

debthaven - I too live in a vhcola. We knew that the prices had gone up a lot, but not this much. I dont think they guy is really looking for this job - condos are harder than SFH and there are many many rules, so we will probably look for a few other people to quote. Given the talks about recession fears, maybe it will help us to wait a bit.

I spent probably 2 hours today cleaning my kitchen. I cleaned and organized all food cabinets, the freezer, and the refrigerator. I also made an inventory list of what we have on hand so I can make a dinner menu for the month. SO MUCH STUFF was hiding in the freezer! I also got our master bedroom cleaned back up and cozy again. Those 2 rooms are always the catch all. Now to just get all the random stuff thrown on our deck where it needs to go and I will feel a little less edgy about the clutter. It's 112 real feel outside right now, so outdoor stuff is impossible to tackle this week. I have my sprinkler out there desperately giving drinks to all of our landscaping.

The quote to convert my fiberglass bathtub surround to a tile shower and a new countertop (not a new vanity) is $16,500. That includes everything except painting.
I am in a LCOL area. Most of that is for the product cost is for the tile and new plumbing fixtures. I'm told that most of the labor is for installing the tile.
However, a grab bar can not be installed in a fiberglass tub surround. So this is what I am doing.

saveinla, for two bathrooms and the kitchen, that seems in line with the work we've had done these last two months. We're spending about $50,000 and that is just for
-painting the inside of 1800sf -new fridge, dishwasher, stove/oven -new door knobs (30 doors) -new light fixtures -one new custom cabinet in the kitchen (rest of cabinets are staying) -new backsplash in the kitchen
I'll need another 12 months at least to save money to re-model the primary bathroom.

For long flights, something to entertain me. Books/games on my kindle fire usually. Battery pack for my cell phone, a sweatshirt or something bc I get cold and a bottle of water.

I woke up badly yesterday, and it really ruined my whole day. I was horribly cranky and unproductive. I'm determined to make today better.

Regarding the renovation cost, that doesn't surprise me. And then there is the wait time. The cost of materials, and supply shortages have skyrocketed in the past XX months. Plywood, steel, pipes, etc. DH received a quote for his new shop a few months ago and it was 2.5 times higher than our friends who put one up a few years prior. Let's just say we put a pin in that project. Thank you for the flight feedback and suggestions. I will keep you apprised. I lined out L the cleaner today. I also told her I reduced the amount back to our original amount. (She had been deep, deep cleaning the past 4 times so I had been giving her an extra $10/hour.) She said that's fine. What I might do is ask her next time if she's taking on more jobs and offer my office once a month.

Holy smokes, that is TOO hot! I don't make inventory lists, per se, but I do poke around and make supper lists off of what we have on hand. The past several months I've gotten very detailed by using frozen lemon penguin shaped cubes from last fall, a leftover flavor packet from frozen shrimp, sent DH to work with a frozen bag of leftover ham, etc.

For a long trip I'd take my laptop plus ear buds for something to read and write with, catch up on old email etc. and watch movies I'd downloaded. My phone, of course, and a bottle of water or other drink. I'd wear comfortable shoes and not take them off, because my feet swell in flight and I want to be able to get them on.d

nikiz628, for sure! My June grocery bill was less than half than it was in May. finnime, I hear you. In fact, the compression socks I ordered were delivered yesterday. They are so cute! And I know there are certain exercises one can do while sitting down to encourage lower leg blood flow. Knee Deep in Water Chloe, I hope you're having a better day today.

Iggy, I have a long sweater/lightweight coat that I always bring with me. I can wear it or use it as a blanket because the AC on airplanes is often too cold for me.
Also, a pair of socks so if I take off my shoes I can keep my feet warm.
And my Kindle.

Time for freezer clean-outs and re-organization of contents. I'm always amazed at how much food we have on hand. We need to eat down the freezer contents in case DH gets lucky during elk season.
I was doing so good at purging old paperwork and organizing my files at the beginning of the year. Life got in the way and now I have a huge pile on my desk....again!
The storage closets need re-organization. I have gift wrap supplies in at least 3 different places. A bunch of it needs a new home. I don't remember the last time I gift wrapped a wedding or anniversary gift. Our circle of friends gets older, and smaller, every year.
I haven't touched any of the piles of family pictures since DS1's passing. I can't bring myself to go there just yet.

It’s crazy hot today, humidity brings it to 111°, so I am inside working.
Still need to touch up the door paint and so the frames. Then I need to do some laundry and tidy up the laundry room.
My sewing machine is being difficult with the correct thread tension so I’m going to try to fix by sewing another pillow first and then get back to the quilt. I already had to take out a long bit of sewing which was a pain.

I have plans on doing a swap with a friend in the future. They have a very small side table that will work well with my decor and I have a toaster oven that I am not really hot about so we are swapping.
I am feeling lots better so am looking forward to my whale watching tour on Saturday.
Also ordered new cellular blinds for the bedrooms and am expecting them this weekend. Not sure when I will put them up but I will get it done -- eventually.

Thinking of you catsareme . I am done till late August!!! Sort of lol ... I have 5.5h of professor/staff classes in the last week of July, but it's a lunch with E (who lives nearby) and 4 hours on Zoom. PS I'm under no obligation to do those hours, but I'm around that week, so why not?! But I don't need to be at school until 1 Sept!

My cleaner is on vacation. DH washed our sheets and his cousins' sheets (they left today). We still need to remake both beds. Done!
I also need to wash all the towels and bathmats. Done!
Today Job 2 asked me to do more hours in Spring 2023. (I'm planning to retire in Jan 2023.) I'll still be doing a half-day there that semester, but I declined the extra class. I hesitated, but DH pointed out that with rush hour traffic, it would be hellish.
It was both very scary and very liberating to say no LOL!!!

Iggy aka IG -- Re travel : I usually take my kindle fire. Have several books and/or audiobooks lor movies loaded on it. Plus noise cancelling headphones (I don't like earbuds.), a hoodie or something as I find planes get cold and snacks. Comfortable shoes plus socks ( for long cold flights). TheOtherMe -- HAve a safe trip. debthaven -- Enjoy your time off. You will enjoy the peace. Knee Deep in Water Chloe and finnime -- Great news on the new homes. Pace yourselves. My update is that things are about the same. I have contacted the donation place and pickup is scheduled for later this month. that gives me two weeks to add more items to those boxes and bags that will be going. I will be meeting a friend for lunch one day next week. Also have several repairs/work projects scheduled and a dentist appointment as well. Next week will be busier than this one has been. I have been taking a break from trying to get too much done each day. The heat has been keeping me indoors a lot and saps any energy on days I have errands to run. I do try to group them as well. Take care all~

You take care too moneysquirrel . Both beds are remade, all towels and bathmats are put away. I certainly didn't expect to do that after an 11h day, but it's all done now!

I'm tired. So much road construction in Michigan. The last 60 miles should have taken about an hour but it took two hours because of road construction. So many miles of single lanes and so many vehicles.
Planning on turning in early.

Iggy aka IG I did have a good night's sleep and today's drive was much easier than yesterday's. Canada's largest cell, internet and cable provide has been done most of the day. I crossed the border just before it went down. Had to have covid vaccine card with you once their internet went down. I carry it with my passport just in case, so I would have been fine but it caused other people not to be allowed in the country. When the Toddler got home from daycare and heard my voice, he came running for me, all excited. I loved it. Then he asked if I was staying and got excited when I said yes. He couldn't use his iPad because there was no internet. He played all evening and never asked for it.
