Hey there young lady, turn that ringer back on. You could be missing a call from Publisher's Clearing House telling you that you are now rich
p.s. How are you feeling today?
Or from the extended car warranty folks!

Hi Empress,
I've been thinking of you. I'm alone this Christmas too. It's been a slow day here too but also a pretty good one.
A total stranger brought my dog back to me this morning after she had spent five hours chasing rabbits through swamps.
My next door neighbor is a nurse. She has visitors. The adults are in the house and the kids are playing hide and seek in the yard. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what is going on there. I'm proud to be her neighbor.
Osso busco is braising in my new Lodge dutch oven. In four or five hours, I will feast.

I've made it through the day. Thanks to the lovely weather, I stayed home. It's been a long day and I've only lost it a couple of times. A cat sitting on the table sticking her paw in your mashed potatoes will cheer you up. It was Cosette, not Cleo (Chunky) of all creatures! Now I'm catching up on reading. Might as well. Thank you all.

Jesus! Was not expecting that when I opened the thread. If you're ever in the area you'd be more than welcome at my Christmas Empress. Bring a holiday skull or two Gwen would love it.

I did, skeeter, and I think I overcooked it a little. I forgot I don't have a meat thermometer anymore and a regular one doesn't work. Plus I forgot horseradish but I have some honey mustard which was actually pretty good with it.

After you mentioned making a roast, I put one on my next shopping list because it sounded so good. Thanks for that idea

I did, skeeter, and I think I overcooked it a little. I forgot I don't have a meat thermometer anymore and a regular one doesn't work. Plus I forgot horseradish but I have some honey mustard which was actually pretty good with it. I set my stove on fire with the oatmeal crumble on top. Stuck a fork in to see if the apples were cooked, and they weren’t. When I tried to pull the fork out a bunch of oatmeal’ fell onto the bottom of the oven and caught on fire. Have the pie a nice smoky flavor. Then my MAGA SIL called an hour before arriving to announce she was no longer sick but her DH and son caught what she had and were running fevers the day before, but not on Christmas. One nephew had a sick kid and the kid was staying home with his wife but he was coming. Niece and her family were also sick but live six hours away so weren’t coming. Yes literally her whole family was sick, and they stay sick, I’m not sure why. She claimed none of them have Covid but I don’t know if they were tested for it or if they are just claiming it’s not Covid because they don’t believe Covid exists. So DH and I are waiting anxiously to see if we catch anything. Fortunately the weather was warm enough we could keep the French doors open onto the porch. It was like a week of cooking and cleaning plus setting the oven on fire just to have four people cough at me all afternoon. Holidays are over rated.

I went to early mass, where 90% of the congregation weren't wearing masks and then over to my sister-in-law's. She immediately triggered me and I spent the rest of the day biting my tongue trying not to say anything that would cause a rift in the family. I kind of miss the quarantine.

Thankfully I brought home enough leftovers from Christmas that I don't have too do more than set convection on preheat and reheat most things. Some food even got vacuum sealed and frozen so I am safe for a bit!! And depending on New Years get together I should be set for a few days more without burning down the house.
