Heck, I can remember about 15 yrs or so ago when they tested pre packaged salads and such. They actually found feces in some. Needless to say I haven't bought any since then. Just about anything we purchase now is a crap shoot - food to shampoo! Can't keep up with all the recalls lately. Maybe YM should have a pinned thread for recalls of all kinds in one place

Thank-you. It will be a relief to have the codes and use-by dates when anxious people call.
I wonder if finding any of this stuff in our walk-in cooler means that everything else has to go. That would really simplify my life.

Yeah the Fresh Express chopped romaine was definitely contaminated. I ate one salad from it and had issues. I'm sort of relieved to find out it wasn't me and that I was right to toss the rest of the package. I bought it at BJs and they sent me a email yesterday about the recall.

oh, I thought this was a thread about the word salad we are going to get on 1/6 from the former president. I was hoping that was going to be recalled. My bad.

I am concerned now because the skinny pig does Romaine lettuce as his greens, and its pricey as we are in winter. I do buy packaged salad greens every once in awhile. Its just easier from me as a single person with a fridge with issues. But now I mostly buy 3 packs of romaine lettuce for Moonshadow.
I wonder if how Mr. Pig got sick was through the lettuce. I'm buying more from Walmart now, as the grocery stores really increased the price of romaine lettuce. Its probably the usual seasonal thing as celery, usually is pricey now until spring as well.
Wonky neck is one of the symptoms he had. Not totally better, but getting there.

They had so many scares with Romain that I wouldn’t be surprised. I grow my own now but I don’t need a ton so just a few in a pot keeps me supplied. And I know not everybody is into growing your own but it’s Uber easy as is most lettuce and greens. Just a thought

I live in an apartment, so space is somewhat of an issue, but skinny pig getting sick really threw me. Now that its winter, its too late to decide dandelion greens on the complex property that gets pesticided once a year might be safer than buying Romaine at the store.

There's some odd things about this recall. The Dole recall was precipitated by two random testings in two different locations of two different Dole products coming from processing facilities in Yuma and some place in North Carolina. Neither salad mix contained romaine lettuce. Both Dole Garden Salad and Shredded Lettuce are heavy on the iceberg lettuce and nil on the romaine.
I won't rule out cross-contamination from romaine grown in Yuma and possibly shipped cross-country to NC before being chopped but I do find it strange that Iceberg lettuce seems to be the common thread here. I've never heard of iceberg/head lettuce being contaminated before. This may be something new or it may be something old being detected indirectly.

I doubt Romain is in prepackaged salad mix. It’s usually packaged alone at least in my shopping experience. I was referring to some time back it was regularly being recalled. Just romaine, that’s why I stopped buying it. Has nothing to do with current recalls.Romaine is my go to for lettuce other than the red leaf variety.

Thank you so much for posting this. I'd actually purchased one of the bagged salads from Dole that was on the recall list, and I returned it Christmas Eve. Definitely didn't want to feed the family anything that'd make 'em sick at Christmas.

Do you have a balcony or patio? Not really. I have shared uncovered patio-ish place in the front of the building which will be covered in snow and has no protected spot. It is shared with three other apartments. Its far more like a walkway, than it is a patio. For the units that are two-bedroom condos, they split it, so they have room for a couple chairs or whatever. Whatever I have put there, even a small pot during season, can & does get moved when people move or get furniture or what not. One of my Chewy deliveries was wedged up next to my door. I could hardly get out. Had to punch the box slowly away from the door. In fact, on both sides of this "patio", the entrances are such, that I and my neighbor cannot use our doors at the very same time. They swing into each other.

I get that sometimes, especially if they mix the green and the red green varieties.
