The dromedary, a species more commonly known as the Arabian camel, had been on the run since Saturday night.
She escaped from the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame, where she had been a part of a live nativity scene, after her halter broke.
"It began on golf carts at Sunflower Hills Golf Course where officers commandeered a golf cart police movie style," Bonner Springs Police Department recounted in an entertaining Facebook post.
"However, we learned camels can run 40mph and it got away." Dromedaries bred for racing can reach a top speed of 40 miles per hour over short distances, according to Brittanica.
The camel was then spotted taking a stroll along the busy K-7 Highway, where she could be seen galloping alongside vehicles, her head and the tip of her hump looming large over cars and vans.

Live Nativity scenes can make for interesting holidays sometimes. I've seen "Jesus" bucked off a donkey more than once when camera flashes went off during the entry into Jerusalem.

How do camels do with cold climates? It's cold here. Bonner is just 20 minutes west of KC.

Well, we had police chasing a fox in the subway. They caught him and put him on a bus. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/metro-fox-mcgill-ile-saint-helene-1.4237997

I think the Arabian desert gets super cold at night in the winter. Today I watched Dr. Pol do pregnancy checks on camels. He said they strike with their front feet, swing their heads to smash you, kick with their hind feet and spit. Overall just don't put your arm up a female camel to check out her uterus

So, break every bone in my body, just don’t spit on me? I know, that’s crazy. I guess I’m safe though, since I don’t see checking out a camel’s uterus in my future. I might have some strange things on my bucket list, but that isn’t even remotely connected to any of the things I like to see and experience while I’m on this earth.

I hear the money is in small animals. Heavens knows I pay my vet well! I kept set of books for a vet. He did both. He had a van set up like a mini clinic for going on large animal calls. The money is in being a VET!! End of story.

The money is in being a VET!! End of story. With Covid, the mobile vet business went through the roof. Large van or bus pulls up, you bring Fluffy or Fido out to the curb and hand 'em over, vet calls or texts you when they are done. No indoor exposure between folks. Lots of seniors use them too because they can't get a large pet in the car anymore or have given up driving. Some of the mobile vets offer grooming services as well.

DIL has separate vets for horses, goats and dogs. Bringing horses to vet requires bringing in trailer but probably costs more if vet come to them
Went to the zooo when our kids were around 5-12, when we got to the camel llama section told them about spitting if annoyed. So of course older son teased the camel as we were leaving. He was quite surprised that mom snd dad were correct. Spit was very slimy
