www.insider.com/survivor-players-health-risks-same-underwear-for-month-utis-2021-7When "Survivor" players compete for a million dollars on national television, they accept the risks involved with living on a remote island with limited food and water. For starters, those on the CBS show must compete in the same outfit until they make it to the finale or are voted off the island. This often means wearing the same pair of underwear for up to 39 days, which can come with painful, uncomfortable, and serious consequences. Four of the five female "Survivor" players whom Insider spoke to told us they had or contracted urinary-tract infections during their time on "Survivor." Three of these women competed during season 39, "Island of the Idols."Scary. I did not realize they dropped the swimsuits too.

I wouldn't think it was just having the same underwear - they are always popping into the ocean so I would think it would be cleaning up with the saltwater. the two seasons I've seen there have been days of rain where they are just sopping and not able to get dry - I think that is what would cause it.
but yeah - it looks pretty intense, I'm not sure I'd want to do it if offered a slot. But I probably would, just for the coconuts.

Reading the article made me think being voted off first might be a blessing.

I never knew the contestants had to wear the same undies until your post Opti. I hope the show at least furnishes sanitary products for the women who need them!

I spent a few of my post-menarche years in what was then called, unironically, the third world. I didn't always have access to running water but we usually had enough water stored to hydrate ourselves adequately and sponge-bathe ourselves. We also usually had enough clean clothes that I could wear fresh underwear every day for as long as water was scarce, which was usually less than a week.
I'm willing to say that I had relatively good access to running water and clean laundry back then but I'm still squeamish about telling you about some of the stuff that I encountered. When I wasn't wearing my underwear, things (ants, flies, bacteria, I don't really know) attacked it and holes developed anywhere that yeast or blood had accumulated. Sometimes the invisible things attacked the unmentionables after they had been laundered and even after they were dry. It took me a couple of years of living in the US to realize that it was not normal to have holes appear in certain parts of one's imderwear.
I don't even want to think about what could have happened if I only had one pair of bloomers, less running water. and absolutely no privacy. I couldn't have laundered my smalls and I'm not sure what would have happened if I'd just kept wearing them.

I've always liked the games and the social game of survivor. But I've always said call me when they do the glamping version.

What you describe is just what life was, at that time in your life. When I think of a woman choosing to go through all of that for a tv show, I think “Ewwww! Nasty heifer”. When I think of someone for whom that was just the reality of their life because of where and/or how they had to live, my thoughts are nonjudgmental and much kinder. I would be totally disgusted with myself if I willingly got myself into a position where I could only wear one pair of panties for over a month. I can’t even imagine wearing the same pair of panties twice without being washed, or if I was really in some random messed up situation that I can’t imagine myself getting into…. at least rinsed in a river or something and dried before I wore them again. A whole 30plus days?! Just…….. HELL NO. You nasty HEIFER! It would take much more than a million dollars for me to be running around with inflamed and infected lady parts because I wasn’t taking care of her properly by choice.
