This occurred 15/20 miles from my house.  We weren't at the parade, but my FB has been blowing up for the past 20 hours.

Please pray for the victims and the kids still in ICU.

The entire situation makes me sick to my stomach.  DD was in marching band for years, and I remember watching her in different parades, and watching little kids from the local dance studios, etc., walking down the street participating in our local parade.  Everyone participating in a parade is vulnerable, which is part of what makes this whole thing so horrible.  Consider my prayers sent!

Milwaukee prosecutors admitted Monday that they had requested "inappropriately" low bail for a man now facing homicide charges for allegedly plowing an SUV into holiday revelers in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

At least five people were killed when the vehicle tore through a Christmas parade in the Milwaukee suburb on Sunday, leading to the detention of suspect Darrell Brooks, 39.

Brooks has a decadeslong criminal record that includes arrests for drugs, battery and domestic abuse, records showed.

He has two active cases in Milwaukee.

In one, Brooks was charged in July 2020 with two counts of reckless endangerment and possession of a dangerous weapon as a convicted felon before he posted $500 bail in February.

In the other matter, he was charged on Nov. 5 with allegedly resisting or obstructing an officer, bail jumping recklessly, endangering safety, disorderly conduct and battery, court records showed.

Those final three charges were acts connected to domestic abuse, according to court records.

Brooks had posted a $1,000 cash bond to secure his freedom on Nov. 11, the court records showed.

The prosecutor in those two cases could not be immediately reached for comment on Monday, while Brooks' most recent attorney declined to discuss those charges.

“The State’s bail recommendation in this case was inappropriately low in light of the nature of the recent charges and the pending charges against Mr. Brooks,” Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm said in a statement about the charges from this month.

“The bail recommendation in this case is not consistent with the approach of the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office toward matters involving violent crime, nor was it consistent with the risk assessment of the defendant prior to setting of bail.”

Chisholm added: “This office is currently conducting an internal review of the decision to make the recent bail recommendation in this matter in order to determine the appropriate next steps.”

Waukesha police identified Mr. Brooks over radio traffic Sunday night as they ran a background check on him. Mr. Brooks and two other suspects were in the vehicle that stopped soon after hitting people at the parade, according to police radio recordings, and police said Mr. Brooks ran south and the two other people’s location was unknown.

The universe must have a dark sense of humor. The news notes a man in an SUV fleeing a domestic violence incident with a knife is who killed and injured all these people.

Disgusting that this person who had done so many criminal acts wasn’t in jail but free to continue and escalate terrible crimes
In NY there is no bail needed snd crime rates are rising , coincidence? I don’t know but sickened by concerns for the criminal outweighing concerns for consequences of the criminal being able to continue causing victims

My friends know some of these kids.

Also the news here reported that 68 are in the hospital.
