FB reminder emails, etc.

I have a FB login, but do not use it. I am somewhat terrified of using it, given its been used extensively for data mining for elections and other things. The amount of reminder emails are getting out of control. Somedays I get 5 or 6 of them. I think the mention imaginary people who want to be my FB friend.

I recognize none of the names. They sound like scammer names. One is Trelly Versace. 

If I do login to FB, can I cut down these reminder notices to one a day or less? Is it possible to keep scammers from requesting to be FB friends? Do you actively have to wade through them and reject them?

I think they target seldom used accounts. Go back in and lock your account down. You can change your settings so that you don't get these requests from strange people/block these requests, etc. Even if you don't want to use your account much at all, I suggest doing this so they can't see your account and try to spoof it.
Or delete it, if you'd prefer.

They want me to upload a photo ID to confirm it is me. I do not feel comfortable with that. I was able to change the password, but I am unable to go further.

I've probably been hacked for a long time then. The account would have been created on a different laptop or a library computer.

Initially it gave me the option of suspending it, but now it doesn't seem to be an option. Looks like someone turned on reminders or that's a spoof. Earlier in the year it was from a notification email and sometimes gave me people's names I knew.

Have you tried changing your settings so that all of your information is visible only to you?  I got a couple of friend requests from random strangers before I made those changes and have not gotten any since then.

I can't fully log in until they "verify" my identity. Since I didn't post pics or have FB friends, I have to jump through scary hoops to get my account back. 

It was a just a skeleton account. I was always going to do something with it, but then never did.

Can you upload some random person's picture and once in, close the account or change the settings?  Facebook really doesn't know what you look like so it shouldn't question your 'picture",.

I've had a very active FB account since 2015 or so and I don't get any emails so I suspect these are some short of phishing.  Personally I would mark them as spam and delete.  I do get a fair number of friend requests on the app from spoofed accounts and I report and delete them.  Inactive accounts are targeted for sure, even the ones of dead people.

Look at the actual from address, might say Facebook but when you expand might be xrrfc68$ - then block

I love the ones I get from PayPal except it's actually PayPl@whateverhacker etc

If you used your phone # as a back up you should be able to use that to get back into your account without a picture.

I think whoever hacked my account changed the phone number for access. Its weird though. Microsoft tracks you through any application they own. So any one of them can sift through your Microsoft accounts and inform the others.

MS owns FB, Twitter, Instagram, Linked In, PInterest and You Tube. (They own Wikipedia as well, but I doubt that affects most users.)

Hmm, others please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe:

Mark Zuckerburg, who has no association w/MS, owns FB (along w/FB shareholders). 
Jack Dorsey -- no association w/MS -- cofounded and owns Twitter (along w/TWTR shareholders)
FB (no association w/MS) owns Instagram 
PInterest is an independent company, though PayPal (no association w/MS) is considering buying them (https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2021-10-20/paypal-said-to-explore-purchase-of-social-media-firm-pinterest)
Google (Alphabet) owns YouTube
Wikipedia is owned by the Wikipedia Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit

Do you want to have a FB account at all? If not, and if you didn't put any information on your current account that could be exploited (other than your email address, of course), then maybe just flag any emails coming from facebook.com as Spam so you never have to see them again and then forget about your account? If you do want to be on FB, then I'm sorry I have no advice on fixing your access issue. Hope you're able to get it resolved, though!

MS may just have partnerships with the above versus some ownership. I was tired, and only researching LinkedIn was wrong. However, I do believe there is major data sharing between all the platforms listed except perhaps Wiki and PInterest.

First, a short history lesson. Microsoft bought a significant stake in Facebook back in 2007, three measly years into the network’s existence. It was a slight gamble for Microsoft back then, a $240 million one, but at the time Facebook only had 50 million users, and now it has 1.23 billion.

Too much work to determine if they have sold all those shares or just some of them.
