Four to ten years in prison (if the soup was hot) and only cold meals while incarcerated.

Firing squad?
I think the manager should have whipped out a gun and shot the customer - it was self defense.
How come no one else in the restaurant didn't whip out a gun and start shooting?
It's the Wild West here in America - you have to protect yourself and other people.
I think anyone who witnessed that would have been justified in stomping/hitting/restraining the customer who thru the soup. Someone that violent might have been a danger to everyone else in the restaurant.
I'm feeling angry tonight.

I saw the video. I don't condone violence, but that's some kick yo ass shit. I would have run after her and beat that ass. If I was a bystander I would have held her down until the police came.

Its pretty nasty assault. Throwing hot liquid in someone's face could cause permanent eye damage among other things. I hope the thrower of soup gets jail time.

Geez my dad literally threw out a customer who called my grandma a ****.
If one threw hot food I'm pretty sure they'd be dead.
What is wrong with some people?

Being a bit contrarian here, but I can't help but notice that the victim of this assault was not exactly de-escalating the situation. This is no time to be positioning your fingers to show off your manicure.
Nope, she should not have had soup thrown in her face, but I'm willing to bet that she wasn't exactly treating the customers in a way that she would expect to be treated herself.

Not seeing that at all. The customer displays aggressiveness. The woman behind the counter braces herself by placing her hands on the counter. Next the hands move down. Then she moves them, and her whole body, further back. Her movement away is non-aggressive. Speculation: The customer comes from outside. The container is full. I think it was disagreement on a phone order. I think the worker is checking on what the on-line menu said about the soup. Then the soup flew.

Generally the first person to resort to violence is the "bad guy" - just like the first person who resorts to name calling/personal attack in an argument/debate automatically loses. Violence is rarely the appropriate thing to do. I'm assuming the two people do NOT have any other sort of relationship - beyond customer and manager of the place of business. From that view point - for me - the soup thrower declared their bad intentions and their willingness to act on them - which makes them the bad guy in this.

I wish audio was included, but nothing IMO gives anyone the right to toss liquids or food at food workers. I read Not Always Right fairly often and usually the people who throw things are jerks. I found another article, and according to the video the manager made, this was her third interaction with the customer. Twice on the phone, and once in person. I do believe if the customer had been willing to accept a refund or new soup, it would have happened. But some people get so upset they don't want to be happy, they don't know how to choose a resolution over the anger that is coursing through them. I don't think the manager was perfect. However, I think customers need to be realistic and in control of themselves. Food service workers are not going to have the time to coddle your ego and go on and on about how sad it was you were wronged and the soup melted the plastic cover or whatever it was. They have to go quickly to solutions. The customer needs to be in that space to accept a solution or move on.
