Travis Tritt is still alive? Who is Travis Tritt? ETA - I had actually heard his name but couldn't have told you what he looked like or identify any of his songs.

I couldn't tell you a song, etc., either, just that he's a douche.

We saw Clapton several times in Paris, MANY MANY years ago. In the VIP section, because a friend/colleague worked for his record label. A very close friend turned 60 earlier this year, his (group) birthday gift was 2 concert tix to see Clapton in Vienna (because he's not playing in Paris this year). Then these friends decided our group of friends should all go to Vienna together. (The DHs and one of the wives are in a band together.) We don't pay that kind of money for concerts, let alone flights and hotels to go see those concerts. (My British DH made an exception for the Stones, but that was in Paris. It was cancelled because of Covid.) Then this news came out. DH and I had already decided not to go for financial reasons, but these revelations CLEARLY showed us that we had made the right decision. Like TheOtherMe said, Clapton will never see another penny of our money. I am disappointed in our friends for still going after this came to light. They don't talk about it with us, since we opted out. So I have no clue if they tried to cancel, or not. I'm guessing not. But it left a VERY bad taste in my mouth about both Clapton, and the people we considered our closest friends.

the last six years or so have been very enlightening, to say the least. there have been those that I've had some soul-searching conversations with, and others that I never had the opportunity to do so before they showed every crack in their ass and I just cut ties.
hugs, debt.

In a similar vein, our theater troupe is putting on a Woody Allen play next year. I (like many of the Americans) said WTF?! One American who has a HUGE marketing job said, Great! The French love Woody Allen!!! It'll sell tickets! Auditions were tonight. My DH did not audition. (He had to be there because he is President.) I'm VERY relieved he didn't ... the basement is too damp and cluttered for him to spend 6 months (or longer) living down there. I was hoping they would shut the Woody Allen piece right down. But there was a vote, and the (predominantly British) committee voted to accept it. The director is Swedish. He feared (and I hoped!) there wouldn't be enough people to cast the play. Unfortunately, there were. I think much of this is cultural. Some countries have published extensively about these issues (whether it be about Eric Clapton or Woody Allen), while others haven't. But once you're informed, you have to take a stand and do the right thing. And I'm not buying that the Americans don't know about the issues surrounding Woody Allen.

When I was 19, my roommate and I drove 3 hours to see Eric Clapton from the nosebleed section. I have always loved his music. Too bad...I didn't realize he was a total jackass.
I also like Jason Aldean's music so that sucks... I pretty much love all different types of music with the exception of hard core "nothing but screaming at you" rock music. I love 80's hair band stuff (e.g. Def Leopard, Whitesnake, etc.) but bands like Slipknot that appear to be nothing but screaming doesn't appeal to me. It is WAY too negative and there is enough negativity in the world. I don't really need it in my music. I like stuff that is either fun to sing along with, to dance to, or music that tells a story and makes me think. Anyway, I digress... Many times I do wish politics would just stay out of the entertainment zone. Sometimes I want to plop down on the sofa and watch some mindless TV. Everything doesn't need to be a PSA or tell us what we SHOULD think. This is why I often find myself going back and watching 90's sitcoms like Frazier and Seinfeld. Just entertain me...stay away from religion and politics. I get enough of that shit at work...A guy in my office is super religious and conservative. That is fine, but I don't need my lunch ruined from his yapping about religion and how "Uncle Joe" is throwing money around. If he wants to join me for lunch, I am okay with that but can we talk about what books we are reading, traveling, what's on Netflix or any other topics under the sun.

I agree. I think it's beneficial to maintain relationships with people that we may not agree 100% with, too, but hammering points of contention constantly just gets in the way of that and creates a larger divide.

As much as I used to love Woody Allen movies, I will never see another one or a rerun of any of his old movies. Back in the day, we always saw a Woody Allen movie the first weekend it came out. There are definitely people I've written out of my life in the last 7 or so years. None is a big loss because their thinking is too convoluted for me. I don't want to be around people I do not respect.

I was wondering if country music stars were pulling the old politician move of getting vaccinated in private, and then being out and about parroting their supporters anti-vaxx views.

I've been boycotting woody allen for nearly 20 years. A little earlier than most, I think, but I read something in the paper and it seemed he was guilty and got away with it. but I was so disgusted about big stars working with him over the past 10 years, should have been obvious by then he was creepy AF.

It is such an us v them atmosphere now - and you are a traitor if you don't believe everything as everyone else does. (On both sides) Maybe, if confronted, people would say what they need to say to keep on their fan's good side?
